Pay attention to copyright
File:Logo Lotsenbruederschaft Elbe.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

The Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content[edit]

Pay attention to copyright
Wikimedia Commons does not accept fair use content.

We do this because Commons is a shared media repository. Downstream wikis have different policies based on local laws. Uses that are acceptable under US law, for example, may not be acceptable in many other countries with more restrictive rules.

In addition, fair use is not compatible with our aim as a collection of freely distributable media files.

Therefore, Commons cannot legally rely on fair use provisions.

Non-free content that may be used with reference to fair use may be uploaded locally if your project allows this.

Only text only logos are allowed in Commons without OTRS-permission[edit]

[edit]

As mentioned on my talk page at the top in the big box that starts with "File deleted? Read this first!"

Logos are always assumed to be copyrighted unless they are too simple to be copyrighted. The vast majority of logos will be tagged and deleted on sight.

In addition, the website http://www.elbe-pilot.de/cms/ has a clear copyright notice on the bottom of the page. "(C) 2015 LOTSENBRÜDERSCHAFT ELBE"

So how are we supposed to know that the right to use and modify that logo at anytime by anyone has been granted to us? We certainly aren't just going to take your word for it. We have guidelines and policies that we have to follow regarding copyright. If this is your logo and you want to release it to us please see the following page and follow the instructions: COM:ET. You have to fill out a form and send it in to our OTRS team who will verify that permission has been granted. In addition, we need to know for sure that you are legally allowed to release the image so if you have an email address associated with the website @elbepilot.de or something like that, you need to send the email from there. If you have further questions please let me know. --Majora (talk) 23:03, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
