obviously ineligible[edit]

Hey Edconialopes,

As I was browsing around a bit, I encountered a lot of your edits like this one in October 2016, where you categorized a lot of Wiki Loves Monuments submissions in Brazil as 'ineligible'. I got curious: what is the criterium that you used for these edits? For some, I could guess - but the pictures are quite diverse, so I'd like to check with you. I'm just trying to understand your process here :) Thanks! Effeietsanders (talk) 11:38, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Effeietsanders! Thank you for your contact. Marking in the ineligible category was made from the rules and recommendations defined on the contest page. In general, the main characteristics that made the photographs ineligible was: Photos submitted after the deadline; Photos that focused on something other thing than the monument(as in the example you cited, where the focus is on the statue not on the building); Low resolution photos. I hope I have clarified your doubt. Edsonialopes (talk) 23:26, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It's not really a matter of doubt, but just trying to understand. I was a bit surprised by the high amount though, and wondered what was the cause. Maybe good to know: in most countries, it seems that there is no resolution criterium, but that this is dealt with in the jury process. Because they are declared invalid, the images have to be removed from the official number of valid submissions. And I think that is a pity. I also don't remember having seen countries where 'focus' was a criterium for invalidation. Either way, national competitions can totally have their own rules - this helps understand. As for the resolution, what did you use as threshold? Effeietsanders (talk) 07:59, 21 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2017 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2017 Picture of the Year contest, but not yet in R2.

Dear Edsonialopes,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 11:32, 17 July 2018 (UTC)
