Deletion of two of my graphics[edit]

Hello Edgar181, I wanted to ask you if you could delete two of my old and unused chemical graphics. Both have been replaced by other files (cf. deletion requests). Here are the two files: File 1 and File 2. Thanks in advance for your help! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 13:26, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I have now deleted both. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 13:32, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Edgar181, thanks a lot! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 14:50, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you do me a favour again and delete this unused graphic of mine? I also replaced it with a complete new file (better name, formulas, etc.). Thanks in advance! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 20:27, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ed (Edgar181) 20:47, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Edgar181, thanks a lot for your support! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 21:02, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, today I replaced this graphic with a new one (linked in the deleltion request). Can you delete the old one? 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:53, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ed (Edgar181) 19:07, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you please delete this old graphic of mine? I already have replaced it by a newer one (linked in the deletion request)! Thanks in advance! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:32, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ed (Edgar181) 18:19, 30 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, thanks for your help! Here is another graphic, which can be deleted. I replaced it due to some errors in it with a new version (linked in the deletion request). 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:48, 31 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you also delete this old graphic of mine? I have replaced it with a newer one! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 21:08, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like DMacks has objected to this deletion. In my opinion, there is no harm in keeping both. Someone may find use for the first representation. Ed (Edgar181) 21:47, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Edgar181, I withdraw my deletion request of this graphic! Can you clear it? 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 19:18, 3 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you please delete this old graphic? I replaced it with a newer, more understandable and better graphic! Thanks in advance! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:31, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Ed (Edgar181) 18:26, 5 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Edgar181, thanks a lot! Can you visit my deletion request for this graphic any maybe support it if you agree? 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 18:20, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, thanks for your support with the deletion request of this graphic. Can you delete this old graphic of mine? I already replaced it with a better and more understandable version! Thanks in advance! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 19:51, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Have you considered just uploading your replacements to the same file name (using the "Upload a new version of this file" link on image's page)? This might be an easier option when you are just creating equivalent but higher quality images. Ed (Edgar181) 21:19, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Edgar181, thanks for your help! Yes, I already know the function to upload a new file version above the old one, but in my cases, I also want to change the too long file name and some other stuff. So, a complete new upload is the method I prefer! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 12:12, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, one and a half week ago, I started this deletion request. The normal period of seven days are gone and I wonder, why it is not deleted? Can you take a look at it and maybe support the request? 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:47, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seven days is not a mandatory time. Often it takes longer - sometimes much longer - particularly if there is no evident consensus. In this particular case, I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. Ed (Edgar181) 21:59, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, I have now uploaded a 1:1 replacement of this file. User Leyo also think that it should be deleted now, because there is no disagreement anymore! 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 15:53, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, I want to withdraw this deletion request. Can you close it for me? 🔸 Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 13:41, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 18:21, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you also close this deletion request? User DMacks and I agreed on keeping the file since that author has provided a corrected version. Thanks in advance! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 🧪 20:56, 3 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Quick bug...this file is missing the "6,6-difluoro" substituents. DMacks (talk) 15:59, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How did I not notice that? Thanks for catching the mistake. It's fixed now. Ed (Edgar181) 23:51, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you fix Hymenistatin_I.svg? It is now Ile-Ile-Ile, but it should be Leu-Ile-Ile. In addition, the stereochemistry at the middle Ile side chain should be the opposite. Compare to Hymenistatin V1(farblos).svg or ChemSpider. --Teemu Arppe (talk) 12:22, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll take a look and fix it soon. Ed (Edgar181) 12:58, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have updated the file. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. Can you just check to make sure it looks right to you now? Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 14:27, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The factual accuracy of the chemical structure File:Cryptoxanthin.png is disputed[edit]

Dispute notification The chemical structure File:Cryptoxanthin.png you uploaded has been tagged as disputed and is now listed in Category:Disputed chemical diagrams. Files in this category are deleted after one month if there is no upload of a corrected version and if there is no objection from the uploader or other users. Please discuss on the file talk page if you feel that the dispute is inappropriate. If you agree with the dispute, you can either upload a corrected version or simply allow the file to be deleted.

In all cases, please do not take the dispute personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! --Mykhal (talk) 14:58, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Mykhal: You're right. I have uploaded a correction to File:Cryptoxanthin.svg and will delete the .png. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. Ed (Edgar181) 15:18, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, I saw you have closed this deletion request with the reason of deleting it, but you actually forgot to delete it really ;-) . I hope you can fix this issue quickly! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:15, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what happened, but I have deleted it now. Thanks for letting me know. Ed (Edgar181) 16:20, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you take a look at this deletion request? It was opened 8 days ago and in my opinion, it can get deleted now! Thanks & best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:08, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure it should be deleted. I left a comment there. Ed (Edgar181) 16:24, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm ... maybe you are right in this point. I just thought that we don´t need this file anymore since there was a better replacement provided by another user. I think we can keep it, maybe someone wants to use it for a wikipedia, which prefer fully skeletal representation of the molecules. Regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 16:43, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Can you close my deletion request then? I want to withdraw it. Keeping the file is the best option! Thanks in advance, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:47, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Edgar181, I wanted to ask if you can take a look at this deletion request, I had opened 8 days ago? IMHO the file can be deleted now since I had provided a high-quality replacement which is equivalent to this file, but doesn´t have any strange colouring or drawing styles. Thanks in advance! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 14:57, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you take a look at this deletion request? This one has been unanswered since February this year. I have uploaded a equivalent, high-quality transparent SVG file and linked it in the deletion request! I think, we can now delete the faulty one! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 07:41, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 12:07, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Edgar181, can you delete this chemical reaction? I noticed, that I have made a big mistake while creating it. This reaction is not catalyzed by copper-acetylide, but by conventional bases such as sodium- oder potassiumhydroxide. I have already uploaded a corrected one (linked in the deletion request). Please delete this file! Thanks in advance! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 17:21, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 19:41, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Just asking for help[edit]

Hi Edgar181. Just asking for some help, could you possibly edit the svg source code before uploading the file? The problem is that the server (or whatever you may call it) somehow doesn't accept the id element to start with a number. So my proposed solution is that you move -clipPath1 (from the back of the id) to the front (as clipPath1-). For e.g. id="2145267-clipPath1" -> id="clipPath1-2145267". The same should be done for defs1 too. Do hope that you could help us out as it will be easier for editors that validate svg files on a daily basis. Cheers and have a nice day. 大诺史 (talk) 14:25, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed the changes you've made to some of my uploads, but I'm not sure I understand what the problem is. Is there any actual harm that is caused by the id element starting with a number? Is there any noticeable difference for the end user? Ed (Edgar181) 14:44, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry for the late reply. It seems like the software doesn't allow ids to start with a number. There will also be no difference to the files. 大诺史 (talk) 13:36, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You can also use this script to check if the code of your svg uploads are valid. 大诺史 (talk) 13:38, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Which software doesn't allow it? The software I use to generate the files allows it. I'm happy to work with you to address any problems that will affect viewing the files or hinder the end user in some way, but if there is no difference when viewing the files, then why concern ourselves about whether the ids start with numbers? Ed (Edgar181) 13:43, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would say mediawiki software (not that sure). As for the second part, although the file shows no difference when viewing, it will reduce the backlog on Category:Invalid SVG. Currently there are about of 1000+ invalid files that have been spotted by editors using the script, while a lot more that aren't verified/validated yet. You can use the script to validate your files after uploading to check and fix any errors from there. 大诺史 (talk) 16:34, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, the source of the backlog is miscategorizing files that "show no difference when viewing" as invalid. They are not really invalid. If you want to reduce the backlog, the best solution is to not put these files in the category. It doesn't make sense to do the extra work of editing the files when the net result is no visible difference. Ed (Edgar181) 18:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ractopamine hydrochloride, ractopamine monosulfate[edit]

Hello @Edgar181: thanks for reviewing the wikipedia page for Ractopamine. Two salts of the substance are identified in the text of the article, to wit ractopamine hydrochloride and ractopamine monosulfate, and at least on the wikipedia site neither salt has a pictogram. Do you think it worthwhile to initiate the pictograms? I myself lack the necessary tools. I'll ask @Louisajb: too, since he authored the pictogram for the parent molecule... It seems odd that ractopamine itself is (from what I gather) in liquid form, while the food additive seems to be a salt of chlorine, and this receives scant mention. Or do I err? Magnoffiq (talk) 22:56, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Magnoffiq: For drugs, the salt form is generally inconsequential with regard to their pharmacological activity. Once the drug is in the blood stream, the active ingredient is completely disassociated from the salt. Different salt forms can be important with regard to formulation of the drug (manufacturing, stability, etc.) and some aspects of pharmacokinetics, but these are generally details that are not included to much extent in Wikipedia articles. So unless the article on ractopamine devotes considerable discussion to the individual salt forms, I don't think it's worthwhile to create images for them and include them in the article. Ed (Edgar181) 23:05, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your quick reply, @Edgar181: . How prevalent in the pharmacological world are salts of chlorine? Can you comment in a very general sense on this? Magnoffiq (talk) 23:41, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hydrochloride salts of pharmaceutical compounds are very common. It is probably the most common salt form. Try this Google search of Wikidata. Ed (Edgar181) 23:47, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Isomer concern at File:Ishikawa reagent.svg[edit]

en:Ishikawa reagent gives the name of the right-hand chemical as "(E) pentafluoropent...", but the structure does not have any E/Z isomeric possibility. The pi bond is in the wrong location (should be propenyl not allyl) according to doi:10.1246/bcsj.52.3377 and as compared to the lower-quality version at File:Fluoropropenaminas del reactivo de Ishikawa.png. DMacks (talk) 16:59, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, the double bond is in the wrong location. I have now corrected the image. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. Ed (Edgar181) 18:16, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Stereochemistry of File:Nargenicin.svg[edit]

I was looking at the various Category:Nargenicin files, some of which are rightfully tagged as having ambiguous stereochemistry. According to DOI:10.7164/antibiotics.38.423, "the usual way of drawing the configuration of the C-2 methoxyl group is ambiguous and does, in fact, tend to suggest the wrong relative stereochemistry at the latter center." I could envision keeping one high-quality file of it in order to comment at en:Nargenicin about it, given how common it is in the lit (and in case we're too lazy to redraw all the biosynthesis-route files to match:). Even our own set of files in the category are not consistent when they are unambiguous. Do you have access to DOI:10.1016/S0040-4039(00)78737-5? That's apparently the crystal structur that could help determine what the actual stereochemistry of the methoxy should be, so we can decide what to delete or redo. DMacks (talk) 18:30, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can get access to the paper. I’m hanging out with family today, but will have a look tomorrow and try to confirm stereochemistry and update the image if needed. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 20:02, 4 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@DMacks: . I have updated the stereochemistry of the image based on that paper. I sent you email (to an address from prior correspondence - let me know if you don't get it) with the paper attached so that you can have a look and see if you agree. Thanks. Ed (Edgar181) 12:34, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for checking. I agree with your change now matching that reference. Hope you had an enjoyable...Independence Day, 9th-eve-pre-Bastille-Day, or whatever else you might do in real life! DMacks (talk) 21:08, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

two photos to be deleted[edit]

Hi Edgar181,
there are two photos that should be deleted, the first the person in the photo is not the Italian journalist indro montanelli (as it is stated), the second is copyright and is not in the public domain in the united states and was taken in ethiopia
1 Duce Ethiopia
2 Indro Montanelli with Ethiopian slave just purchased --Walshevans1 (talk) 15:43, 7 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you've already nominated both of those images for deletion. I'm not familiar enough with the subject matter of those photos to evaluate the merits of deletion. I realize those discussions have been open for awhile, but sometimes it just takes time for the right administrator to come along and evaluate the deletion argument. Unanswered deletion request[edit]

Improving one of your files[edit]

Hello Edgar181, I wanted to ask, if you can improve the quality of that file? Maybe you can upload a newer version of it with better quality or create a new one? Thanks in advance, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 15:58, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I created a higher quality version and made the replacements. Many of the files I created more than 10 years ago such as this one are lower quality than what is preferred today. Hi Edgar, I am writing for the fact that I had uploaded a pdf which was under creative commons and I represent the authors who have given me the liberty to publish the handbook wherever required in the public domain. The file which was deleted was on the page, "https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Python_Basics_-_With_Illustrations_from_the_Financial_Markets.pdf" Is it possible for you to re-instate. minor image correction[edit]

Hey, if possible could you please amend your image 'File:Kekulene.svg' so that the ring in the 12 O'clock potion has all its bonds the within the ring? The structure of Kekulene has finally been determined and is indeed 6 aryl rings with bridging alkenes, it would be good to make that absolutely clear in the depiction. --Project Osprey (talk) 14:22, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that would be better. I have updated the image accordingly. Regards, Ed (Edgar181) 14:33, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:35, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

Hey Edgar - hopefully you recognize me from enwiki, was wondering if my Commons account could possibly receive rollback as well. Realized how handy it would be in dealing with an LTA today. Thanks in advance. Home Lander (talk) 00:34, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, no problem. I have now done so. Ed (Edgar181) 13:16, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Appreciated, thanks. Home Lander (talk) 22:02, 28 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
