Their Remaining Journey - image deletion[edit]

Uploaded the image and got marked for deletion. How do we fix the copyright license? Busygirl123 (talk) 17:30, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

HelloBusygirl123, how is File:Their Remaining Journey.jpg, your own work?? -- Eatcha (talk) 17:33, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:2019 06 21 wikipedia inquiry learning afbeelding 1.png[edit]

Hi Eatcha, I have uploaded some of my works to Wikimedia Commons for use in the article 'Inquiry based learning'. Kind regards, Ewald Vervaet

Hello Eatcha, ontdekkendleren.nl is my website and Stichting Histos ('Foundation Histos') promotes my work and I work for it - actually I am the founder. Picture 1, for example, is on http://ontdekkendleren.nl/oll/zo-ontdek-ik-het-lezen-deel-1 and there you can see that I am the author of both books. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ewald Vervaet 1949 (talk • contribs) 19:09, 8 July 2019 (UTC) Kind regards, Ewald Vervaet[reply]

Brett Krutzsch author photo[edit]

This photo belongs to Brett Krutzsch, and I'm using it with the permission of his publisher. Is there some way that I should indicate this his publisher is ok with broad distribution? Definitely new to this whole Wiki thing... Thanks! Alisonmelnickdyer (talk) 18:10, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alisonmelnickdyer, ask the author to send permission using the release rights generator at Commons:OTRS#Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries and send it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org -- Eatcha (talk) 18:17, 21 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

stats[edit]

Can you get stats for each FP nominator

  1. Number of nominations
  2. Number of successful nominations (can you distinguish speedy promotions and success normally?)
  3. Number of failed nominations (can you distinguish withdrawn and failed normally?)
  4. Derive % of success.

Perhaps with a cut-off to exclude people who have nominated fewer than 10, say. Then format in a table that allows sorting. I'd be interested to know who is consistently successful and consistently unsuccessful using that % figure. To me, that is more important that absolute numbers. -- Colin (talk) 15:31, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Colin: , I updated the list on COM:FPC talk page, with Number of successful nominations. I can do every thing except ( distinguish withdrawn and failed normally) and (speedy promotions and success normally). API don't provide you the size change, so it's not possible until I ask some server admins about this. -- Eatcha (talk) 19:45, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your work to pull this information. Also mildly curious to see % of self-nominations (how many of the [successful/total] nominations were[n't] the nominator's own image). A few people have so many high-quality pictures that they use up their 2-at-a-time limit on a consistent basis, but for everyone else I think there's a huge value in identifying and nominating lots of other people's photographs that should be recognized. — Rhododendrites talk20:22, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Japan in 8K 4320p.webm has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I hope that my comments will not sadden you, but they will make the communication of others with you more pleasant. --Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 03:50, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, This is a video, but a picture, so I don't udnerstand your comment. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:52, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That nominations was not nominated using the pre-loader that I created for the bot to process + {{Commons:Featured picture candidates/File:列车通过李子坝站.ogv}} is not allowed to avoid the FVC bot from messing with FPC candidates. This was causing problem while closing it in review (dry in bot + only -close CLI mode), I guess it is from COM:FP. -- Eatcha (talk) 13:59, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Marseille - 4K.webm. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Marseille - 4K.webm]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

@Yann: , ✓ Done -- Eatcha (talk) 08:35, 9 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eatcha, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Eatcha/common.css. Glad to see you coding in css! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 8 new prettyCss issues — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in css writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
For trying helping your friends User:Tuvalkin, User:Jeff G. and User:Alexis Jazz. And also for supporting FOW. Keep it up! Voldemort (talk) 14:56, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Really ? I never met anyone of these in my real life. I only had conversation with Jeff, that too only on Help Desk. I warned you but... I will prove it on that page. Regards, -- Eatcha (talk) 15:00, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • (talk page stalker) Guy, the name of that «unimportant random website» you stole from and are now cluelessly trying to cover your ass about is FotW, not FOW. You’re making a very sad spectacle of yourself, by the way. I know that back in the day you just wanted an image of the flag as described in the book and copyright for flags is always iffy (after all, who really created that design? Betsy Ross, Margaret Atwood, Marc Pasquin…?), so you just grabbed whatever Google images brought up and lets add it to the article. So far so good, and indeed FotW-ws was ransacked back in the early days of Wikipedia in a similar way for thousands of flag images; we all learned a lot meanwhile — about SVGs, GIFs, copyright, flags, and how to indicate authorship in a Wikipedia/Commons filepage. But what you’re doing now, this collective leg pulling, is a dick move. You’re free to think copyright is not a serious matter (and you may be somewhat not 100% wrong) but with the WMF facing DMCA and GATT/Uruguay legal threats on a regular basis, it has to be taken seriously in Commons, and your trolling of the volunteers is not welcome and will be met with a harsh response. Indef blocks were enacted for less and your Wikipedia work (which I assume you take seriously, unlike your foray in Commons) might be adversedly affected by one. I seriously advise you to quit the trollwork, leave the matter alone, and go back to your work as usual. (Sorry for trespassing, Eatcha!) -- Tuválkin 15:31, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Yann I'm not sure, I'm following this edit. Maybe we need a consensus to set a limit, I would support 5 or 6 active nominations as we need to wait for an entire month(27 days + 7 votes) to get the results, on FPC waiting time is only 9 days. And we featured just 2 videos since this project started. Thanks -- Eatcha (talk) 12:04, 23 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not interested in any of the things you just sent me an invitation for and am at a loss how you thought I might be. Deisenbe (talk) 11:24, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't used any program to invite you(although I invited about 900 users some weeks ago using analytics script). I invited you manually, sorry for it. I actually found that ranking based on user-box is not a profitable method, most of users just add user box and they don't want to participate in commons. I will try to invite users only if they uploaded any sound or video, using the recent change stream. Users from recent changes are much more likely to come and vote. Sorry -- Eatcha (talk) 11:46, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Abbas Ahmed Atwi picture.jpg[edit]

Hi, could you please withdraw your request at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Abbas Ahmed Atwi picture.jpg? The picture has been rightfully uploaded by the correct author. The author has cropped himself out of a landscape selfie for privacy reasons, therefore the resolution isn't what you would expect from an "original file". I didn't upload the file myself, meaning that I didn't take his picture and upload it from my account with his permission, therefore OTRS isn't necessary here. The full picture can be seen on the author's instagram story (which will end in 11 hours from now). Thanks for understanding, --Nehme1499 (talk) 11:36, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

4K[edit]

  • Why creating a category 4K video? category:video display resolution 3840 x 2160 already exists
  • Why adding individual files to a category, if they are already in a category, that is a sub category of a video display resolution category?
  • why starting a new category scheme, if this can soon be handled much better with structured data?

--C.Suthorn (talk) 15:27, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@C.Suthorn: What do you mean by "this can soon be handled much better with structured data?" , If this type of categrization is not allowed I will revert them nom. Thanks -- Eatcha (talk) 15:32, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Reverting would spam my email even more. Structured data can already be seen in captions and depict statements. Tagging files with statements representting EXIF like meta data is a likely addition. just wait what developers will add to the MW softtware. --C.Suthorn (talk) 15:36, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@C.Suthorn: Sorry will not happen again. I reverted them, sorry again for spamming your Mail box.-- Eatcha (talk) 15:41, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Eatcha: I saw some of your edits on my watchlist and, then, saw this discussion. While I agree this particular category was unnecessarily duplicative, Suthorn is simply wrong to suggest no longer adding such categories to images based on the possibility that structured data will take over the task some day. We don't know when or if this will actually happen. Further, if they don't want their email "spammed" by edits, then they can change their settings to avoid it. Don't avoid editing in good faith, especially if it is to fix a problem, based on the idea of inconveniencing someone.
Now, for the actual categorising, I'd like to drop a couple of suggestions. Category names should be sentence case, so avoid capitalising words like "video" if they are not proper nouns. If you run into the situation again where you have a redundant category, such as with the 360° videos category, you can use the {{Category redirect}} template rather than requesting deletion. Unfortunately, even Category:360-degree video is redundant, since we have Category:360 panoramics videos. I'll start cleaning some things up. Huntster (t @ c) 00:44, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Rhesus macaque - sitting.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.
