Migration to Wikidata[edit]

Dylan, Thanks for your offer of help on Ryan page. I am helping with moving of a lot of data from Commons to Wikidata lately, but just getting it from the source is better, since your data might have been improved, since the last time. I just noticed that many artworks from Walters Museum are not on Wikidata. However it seems like User:Multichill already imported metadata for many paintings as part of d:Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings, see d:Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Collection/Walters Art Museum, however they seem to be a copy of Commons data. Looking at d:Wikidata:WikiProject_sum_of_all_paintings/Location/United_States_3s entry on Walters. There seem to be concern that not all metadata accessible through API is CC0. Would it be possible to only revive metadata that is CC0 in the form of a spreadsheet?. Dylan , I can upload the data but in case you are interested in uploading it yourself, than I and others can guide you. --Jarekt (talk) 05:19, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

User:Jarekt, I can work on a spreadhseet of the data, in the next week or so. Meanwhile, I'd like to know more about which data available via the API is _not_ CC0 since the museum regards it as such, anyway. Perhaps some revisions are needed in the source? That comment was left by User:Missvain 4 years ago and linked to here, which might have been updated since. Sarah, can you look at this again. --Jarekt (talk) 19:32, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't worked on any of this in years. Sorry...not sure what you want me to do...? Missvain (talk) 01:14, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry Sarah, I thought it was you who created the table on d:Wikidata:WikiProject_sum_of_all_paintings/Location/United_States_3 where the Walter's API license here was described as not compatible with Wikidata. I was trying to figure out what was the issue, but maybe the issue was with the earlier version. --Jarekt (talk) 03:00, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jarekt I can shed some light on this question. In the original data set, we had accidentally included records about some art objects that were on loan to the museum. Since those objects do not belong to the museum, the data about them isn't available to be shared as openly and we'd prefer to exclude those items for simplicity's sake. These items are pretty easy to recognize by their accession numbers, which begin with IL when the artwork is on "institutional loan" or TL when it is a "temporary loan". Those are the items to be excluded. There aren't very many of them, comparatively speaking. Would you like me to produce a spreadsheet or is the API sufficient for gaining access to the data? Jarekt or Missvain at long last some spreadsheet data is ready to help contribute data about CC0 artworks from the Walters to WikiData. What's a good way to share it? Dylan k (talk) 14:26, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Great, You can place on the web somewhere (google docs?), you can upload it to Commons (according to Commons:File_types#Nonfree_file_formats it should be possible), or you can send it by email. You can reach me on gmail as "jarek.w.tuszynski". --Jarekt (talk) 16:44, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jarekt I shared to your gmail a folder that contains a csv export of each table for the online collection. In the em_images table you'll find filenames for the images. If you need images for wikidata, the images can be downloaded using curl or wget from https://art.thewalters.org/images/art/large/ The live data, which does change on a near-daily basis is also available using our API at https://api.thewalters.org Please let me know if I can help at all and thank you as always. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dylan k (talk • contribs) 14:22, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
