First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper
Made a mistake?
  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}
  • For more information read the full Deletion guidelines
(P.S. Would you like to provide feedback on this message?)

Flickr reviewing[edit]

Hello! I've passed your request for permission to review flickr images. Be sure to read all relevant instructions on Commons:Licensing, Commons:Flickr images and {{Flickrreview}}. Also, please add {{User trusted}} to your userpage. Feel free to ask any questions, although I'm sure you won't have any problems :-) Happy reviewing! --Boricuæddie 00:24, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Images[edit]

Please delete Image:AeropuertoVasquez.jpg and File:AeropuertoelEDEN.jpg; I did not notice they can only be used in the English wikipedia. Thanks--Juliofdiaz 09:22, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They've been deleted. Cheers. — Darkfalls talk 23:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many Thanks[edit]

Dear DarkFalls,
Thank you for taking part in my Requests for Adminship. The RfA was successful and I am now an administrator here. There were concerns over my temperament from respected editors, and I have taken these concerns on board, with the aim of being a more polite and courteous administrator both here and on the English Wikipedia. If you need help with anything, here or on the English Wikipedia, such as history from deleted images and such, please don't hesitate to shout. My door is always open, so to speak. Nick 20:42, 6 January 2008 (UTC).

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades...

DarkFalls, congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Commons. Please take a moment to read the Commons:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Commons:Administrators' noticeboard and Commons:Deletion requests), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings or modifications of protected pages. The majority of the actions of administrators can be reversed by the other admins, except for history merges which must thus be treated with particular care.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons @ irc.freenode.net. You may find Commons:Guide to adminship to be useful reading.

Please also check or add your entry to Commons:List_of_administrators and the related lists by language and date it references...

Many Thanks[edit]

Dear DarkFalls,
Thank you for supporting my Request for Adminship. I’m honored by your trust and will do my best to help build a better site. Durova 21:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Start small, close obvious deletion discussions. Get bolder with experience. Pretty soon Commons will have ten thousand images! (giggles, flees) ;)

My RfA[edit]

Thank you for participating in my request for adminship. The request was successful with not one opposing vote. I will do my best to live up to the trust that you have placed in me. Thanks again! —Remember the dot (talk) 17:01, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

deprecated function in your monobook.js[edit]

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in my

Administrative notice[edit]

Deutsch

Dear DarkFalls. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 16:52, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a look, as most Scout logos are not free use, and these are improperly placed there, improperly licensed. Please feel free to weigh in. There will be more but we need to rescue them first.

Re:OTRS ticket 2010021610052123 ([edit]

You wanted proof, I'll give you proof. The permision that was granted by Stanley J. Anderson is absolutely GENUINE. He just asked me to write it on his behalf. JTS

Thoroughly unconvincing... Ask Anderson to write the permission himself, otherwise the images stay deleted —Dark talk 06:31, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

Since I last talked to you, The permission that Stanley J. Anderson [Ticket#2010030410053554] had been accepted and they can't find the files. Should I make a undelete request or can you take care of it? 16:49, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Abuseive admins related to permission inquiries?[edit]

It took me a wile to contact you due to some unnessary blocks and threats (probably due to lack of informaion about the permission information inquiries) that some admins had made and enforced or comented on ( your not on of the admns, and I don't know if its the grounds for de-adminship or not). Just be aware that this is happening, no action is necessary. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter 19:29, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Semi-Protection Rumor[edit]

I've been on the admin noticeboard and there is a rumor floating around that this and other pages that I've edited may be semi-protected. The rumor is the work of Bmpowell, and not only its getting a bit ridiculous he has a personal attack for everything I say or do. He needs to be stopped at all costs. 19:59, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Talk page acting wacco[edit]

Darkfalls i think your talk page here on commons is acting a bit wacky. Its double posting everything that I put on it. Could you fix it? 21:20, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

De-adminship warning[edit]

Deutsch | Español | Italian

Dear DarkFalls. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Thank you abf «Cabale!» 15:27, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
