FPCBot

Hi, Is it possible that the bot remove and archive withdrawn nominations? Currently it doesn't, even when confirmed with {{FPC-results-reviewed}}. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:52, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi, Any idea about my question above? Happy New Year! Yann (talk) 18:26, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi, I am sure it would be possible without having looked at it in detail. However it's unlikely I will do it though - I am not following FPC much these days. The code is on GitHub though so anyone is welcome to contribute. /Daniel78 (talk) 22:18, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Hmm...

Hi Daniel, do you have an idea, why the bot could not handle this picture? At first, it doesn´t close it according to the 5-day-rule, now it doesn´t finish it after we made it by hand. --Hubertl 07:32, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

I think

the FPC bot needs a manual kick! Regards --Hubertl 18:11, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

It appears to running now. /Daniel78 (talk) 22:23, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Featured picture sets are invisible

Hi. Please have a look at Commons talk:Featured pictures#Featured picture sets are invisible, also referenced in Commons:Village pump#Featured picture sets are invisible. Do you also deal with Valued images? There's an obviously fraudulent "Valued" image there; please see this, and if another user operates the Valued images bot, please forward this information to them. I post some on Commons, but I'm an admin at Wikivoyage, so I really feel like I've done enough on these issues, as I've posted on several talk pages no-one seems to read (I also posted to Commons talk:Featured picture candidates, with no response whatsoever) before being referred here. Sorry if I sound crabby; most of that has nothing to do with the situation at hand, but rather my fitful recovery from a respiratory illness, and I thank you in advance for taking care of these problems.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:57, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, sorry I know nothing about the valued images and how that works. If a fix is needed to the FPC bot, anyone can propose a code change for it and I can review it. I have no current plans to work on it myself. /Daniel78 (talk) 09:40, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Please forward this to whomever has the requisite technical expertise to fix the Featured pictures problem and cares enough to do so (the Valued images problem has been fixed now). Nothing personal to you, obviously, as we don't know each other, but I feel totally like I've been put through a runaround like you get from calling big corporations with poor customer service. This is the 4th talk page I've posted this information to. If no-one on Commons except me really cares that featured sets like the one that's supposed to be in the second slot from the left in Commons:Featured pictures#Places simply show text (in this case, "Featured picture candidates/Chicago 2007-21a.jpg"), with no picture nor anything clickable, and I lack the technical expertise to fix the problem, maybe I should give up on making any edits on Commons and forget about this site. I mean, I've been taking part in reviewing and voting on Featured pictures candidates for the last few weeks and have nominated some, too, but if no-one really cares enough about whether they are actually displayed, why should I? I hope you understand how I feel and get this information into the hands of someone, anyone who might take care of it. That is, if you yourself care enough to do anything about it other than say anyone can propose a code change (which I lack the knowledge to do) and you have no plans to work on the problem yourself. Thanks a lot. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:30, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi Ikan, I understand how you feel. However everyone here are using their own free time to work on this. I have not really been involved in FPC for a long time. I wrote the bot over 6 years ago and are not really doing anything more on commons currently than answer some incoming questions here from time to time. And about who has the expertise, I am sorry but I do not know. I have no better suggestion than to try to find someone who knows coding and are interested in FPC. /Daniel78 (talk) 22:13, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

Bad bot edit

Your bot should follow redirects. See this edit. --Jarekt (talk) 13:03, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

Patches to the bot are welcome, it's unlikely I will in the near future. I raised an issue though to have it on record at https://github.com/Zitrax/FPCBot/issues/4 /Daniel78 (talk) 21:58, 28 January 2016 (UTC)

FP bot down again

Hi, The title says it all. Thanks, Yann (talk) 19:01, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

FPCBot pull request

Hi, I have issued a pull request on Github for FPCBot to stop treaing Commons:Featured pictures/Animated in a special way. Please review. Thanks -- KTC (talk) 20:23, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

FPCBot not removing reviewed candidates

Hi, I reviewed several withdrawn or FPX candidates, so that they are removed by your bot. But they are not. Since the bot removes candidates reviewed after the 5-day rule (failed or passed), why other reviewed candidates are not removed? Best regards, Yann (talk) 11:40, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

FCPBot and changing the Commons Featured Pictures gallery

Hi Daniel

I've been working with UNESCO social media and publications to identify what changes could be made to make the Commons Featured Pictures gallery easier for them and other people looking for images to use. Their main feedback was:

  • Most sections are too broad and it is difficult to find what you are looking for because you have to guess which section things will be (this was especially true for the Objects section), however sections some are really specific, its not consistent.
  • It is confusing that you click on More to get to more images, it's very easy to miss the link or not understand what it leads to and most people who I showed the page to assumed that these were the only featured pictures on the subject.
  • The page doesn't fit with the styling of the subpages it leads to.
  • Text on the page was unclear and didn't include information on how to reuse the images (I have now added this).

I've created a draft of a new Featured Pictures gallery taking this feedback into account, however I understand that this will break the bot adding new images to each section, is it possible that the bot could be 'retrained' to add new images to the right sections for my proposed changes? I just want to understand what is and isn't possible and design around it accordingly.

Many thanks

Ping KTC, it looks like maybe you are involved in this bot as well? Do you know what is possible? Thanks, --John Cummings (talk) 10:57, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
