I see the "GNU Free Documentation License," on there, and really you should send this to User:FrickFrack, since he was the person who originally uploaded it. ----DanTD (talk) 21:15, 17 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
File:Spring Hill's Pink Dinosaur on US 19.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi, why did you give this category's subcategories capitalised names? They don't look like proper nouns but rather [location] + [type] … FDMS 4 22:05, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Check out the official names. ----DanTD (talk) 23:08, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, you were referring to the general category? Sorry, my mistake. In that case, the capitalization was because it was an official agency. ----DanTD (talk) 16:42, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was referring to the subcategories. I still think that lowercase would look nicer (after all, the depots aren't brands or organisations but entirely utilitarian buildings), but if they even write the capitalised version on their walls … [Walks away and forgets about it.] FDMS 4 17:29, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
'Fraid so. Each is like a medium sized factory with hundreds of workers and when MTA rename one there's a ceremony with speeches and distinguished guests. Silly, perhaps, but yes it's a proper name. Jim.henderson (talk) 21:09, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please be more careful...[edit]

You added images of conventional railroad vehicles to Category:Road-rail vehicles in the United States. However this category is for dual use vehicles, capable of using both rails and conventional roads. Geo Swan (talk) 20:48, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I did see some that were already categorizes as Category:Road-rail vehicles at large that didn't look like they had such vehicles at all. I was perfectly willing to remove those categories upon closer examination, or leave the newer category there. ----DanTD (talk) 21:04, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bots[edit]

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Rocky Mount REA Express Building[edit]

Just out of curiosity, why the removal of the two bus oriented categories from my images of the REA Express freight house at Rocky Mount (Amtrak station)? As far as I know, that part of the station is still where all the buses stop. ----DanTD (talk) 02:11, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your assertion that it is still a bus stop will not be disputed! However, the category "Bus stations in the United States" was removed from these to images because the category "Greyhound stations" (which still remains) is specifically included in the former category, therefore keeping both categories would be redundant. Hope that clarifies the action. An Errant Knight (talk) 14:29, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't say using both would be redundant in this case, because they also accept Tar River Transit buses, and I've seen faded signs for Trailways buses there too. Either way, these categories apply exclusively for the former REA Express freight house. ----DanTD (talk) 14:43, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

D&LW bridges[edit]

Dan,

I just screwed up a C&P of the move template. Sorry. Fixed now. I'm doing this for the other "...bridges and tunnels" categories as well. Choess (talk) 19:02, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you cleared that up. And I'm also glad you found enough tunnels to split up the bridges and tunnels categories. ----DanTD (talk) 19:05, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Car categories for pictures with small glimpses of cars[edit]

Hi Dan, regarding this edit I do not believe anyone looking for information at Category:Toyota Camry (XV30) will find File:LI Motor Pkwy Marker @ Half Hollow Hills Library-3.JPG a useful photo for that purpose. It shows the car in low resolution and only depicts the front-end. Other minor items in the image are a road, trees, the sky, a flag pole, street lamps and a sign. I think you would agree that it would be absurd to categorise the extensive contents of every photograph. If it so bothers you to have the Camry as "unidentified" so to speak, you may be better served by placing a note in the description. Enjoy you weekend! Kind regards, OSX (talkcontributions) 04:47, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's kind of minor compared to the NYS historical marker, and BTW that marker is for the road. Having said that, it's still more prominent compared to the trees, sky, flag pole and street lights in the parking lot. ----DanTD (talk) 04:53, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, that's fine, place a note in the description about the car. Do you think anyone looking for information at Category:Toyota Camry (XV30) will find this low resolution (when looking at the car only) picture of the front-end useful? The category contains 136 files, there is no shortage of files there. I don't not believe the image makes the category better, in fact I makes it worse as it is just adding unnecessary clutter. Regards, OSX (talkcontributions) 05:17, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for removing that category :) If you take a look at Category:Hyundai Sonata (EF), you can see what happens when files containing a subject as a minor part of the photo clog up a category (best to scroll down to the bottom). COM:OVERCAT also discusses similar issues. Cheers, OSX (talkcontributions) 05:33, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not a traditional "rest area" question[edit]

I took 7 pictures of a roadside park along U.S. 82 / GA 520 in Worth County, Georgia. Do you think a category name of "U.S. Route 82 roadside park, Worth County, Georgia" be o.k.? What categories do you think would be appropriate? Thanks for your help. --Mjrmtg (talk) 10:47, 31 July 2015 (UTC) [reply]

Hmm, tough one. I added and changed a couple of categories for you, but I know of something similar along U.S. Route 301 near Coleman, Florida, which I've snapped some pictures of in the past, and I also know of a couple of closed ones along U.S. 41 in Garden Grove, and U.S. 98 north of Trilby. I'd go with "Category:Rest areas in Georgia (U.S. state)" for the time being. ----DanTD (talk) 13:57, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for adding categories. Should I put them all under a category called "U.S. Route 82 roadside park, Worth County, Georgia" or "U.S. Route 82 rest area, Worth County, Georgia"?
