First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Stemmi da classificare[edit]

L'inserimento nella categoria coats of arms to be classified ha un solo scopo: permettere a chi è appassionato di ritrovare uno stemma anche se non ne conosce il nome o la titolarità. Se lo stemma dei Colonna, per fare un esempio, è classificato solo sotto Colonna ne consegue che chi cerca lo stemma dei Colonna lo troverà senz'altro, ma chi cerca di sapere a chi appartenga uno stemma rosso caricato di una colonna d'argento non riuscirà mai a trovarlo a meno che non sfogli tutte le possibili categorie di Commons. Ecco perché esistono le categorie della famiglia coats of arms, suddivise poi per paese, per tipo di stemma (familiare, civico, ecclesiastico, etc). In questo modo che è interessato può limitare la sua ricerca a poche categorie (poche si fa per dire ovviamente) invece che a tutte. Questo è il motivo per cui quando trovo uno stemma non classificato sotto una categoria araldica lo inserisco almeno nella categoria to be classified, con la speranza che poi qualcuno possa attribuirlo in maniera più corretta. Nel caso dei tuoi stemmi, li si potrebbe inserire o nella categoria più generale Coats of arms of families of Italy o in una più particolare relativa alle famiglie del territorio di cui si tratta (del tipo di Coats of arms of families of Bologna) e anche raggrupparle in una categoria analoga aPalazzo Pretorio (Fiesole) - Coats of arms of podestas. In questo modo chi è interessato potrebbe comunque ritrovare le immagini di questi stemmi senza dover girare troppo per Commons. P.S.: noto con piacere che anche tu utilizzi una Nikon e il Mac. Nel tuo caso credo che la doppia attribuzione non sia fonte di equivoci, in quanto una facilita le ricerche a chi è interessato agli stemmi presenti su edifici, l'altra consente le ricerche per area geografica, in questo caso Firenze. Penso comunque che divenga inutile inserire il to be classified nella categoria relativa a Firenze.
