Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Churches in Liège[edit]

Category:Churches in Liège is a main category that should contain all churches in the whole of Liège. Most people will not know precisely in what part or commune the church is, or that it is somewhere a monastery/collegiate/romanesque/gothic church from the 15th century. --Foroa (talk) 14:33, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sculptors, painters ... from Liège[edit]

Hi, I remerged the painters and sculptors from Liège in the main Belgian categories as it becomes dangerous to find some painters in the main Balgian category, others in subcategories, without knowing for sure where they are born, where they worked, ... I suggest, as done in Ghent, to group them in artists from Liège, so we keep a complete and consistent Belgian painters and sculptors category (without overcat complaints). I had similar problems with painters from the Southern Netherlands (including painters from Liège), so we want to maintain a category at the Belgian level that is complete and not fragmented. --Foroa (talk) 16:11, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
