Sorry, but just saying the source is "ENTERTAINMENT TRADE JOURNALS" isnt enough Thats a reference to millions of possible sources, so actually its not a reference at all. A reference is required, see en:Wikipedia:Citing sources. Martin H. (talk) 16:09, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

1. I do/did not know how to identify each individually when multiple images are/were sent simultaneously---all at one time 2. All are public domain pre-1923, and only about 5 are not from the internet archive. 3. If you check the jpg names, you'll notice the trade journal source/names and date for the vast majority of the images. 4. Anyway, I am attempting to add more info to come into compliance. 5. Out of curiosity, may I ask why I was singled out, when my public domain images are so clearly very old, and yet Wikipedia is full of mostly post 1923 images?

I give up. I have spent days finding, and cropping, public domain pre 1923 images at the internet archive that I thought others might want to see. The images are all being deleted and I don't know why.... even after I have gone back and provided the links for all of them (I hope). Am I perhaps providing the info in the wrong format? If so, I am much too dull, or the rules far too complicated for me to understand and follow.

File:Robert Strauss Harvey Lembeck Signed Stalag 17.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi This image is public domain. Please tell me how to fix the label — Preceding unsigned comment added by Copyrights once lasted 56 years (talk • contribs) 07:21, 01 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Photo descriptions

[edit]

I noticed that for images such as File:The shaggy dog cast signed.jpg, you have the source as "own work" with you as the author. As a note, you include the real author at the bottom. As you're discovering, those details are not what's needed, which means the license is also wrong. You could use a format as in File:Karen Black - Ace.jpg to avoid the deletion problems. A detailed breakdown of the parameters is explained in Template:Information. To get feedback you could also go to Commons:Village pump/Copyright.--Light show (talk) 00:13, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi How do I label post 1922 publicity photos issued by film studios/radio networks to promote their films and shows?
They are not copyright protected- nor are posters, pressbooks, lobby cards, and even film trailers issued by the same entities:
stills such as the one issued to promote The Shaggy Dog were all distributed for free so as to be as widely dispersed as possible. The films they promote are generally copyright protected - the stills generally are not. Their lack of copyright protection has been decided by the USA courts. The film still images I've provided- many from my collection- are public domain, even the ones post 1923. If such images- provided by me or others- are being deleted for the lack of a correct label, please provide a link to the page that illutrates the proper labeling for post 1923 public domain studio images. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Copyrights once lasted 56 years (talk • contribs) 01:46, 01 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can look at the license details for some of my still uploads for examples. If the photo is from your own collection, you can just put down "my own collection" under "source," or else give a website link. The author would be the studio name or photographer if they're known. You should show the entire photo including all borders on the initial upload, and then crop it with a new version upload which will overwrite the old one but still show it. If there's anything printed on the back, you should scan and upload that also. If it's blank, you can just state that the back is blank. If there's a copyright notice anywhere, you could do a copyright search. And whether you own the photo or it came from a website like ebay isn't relevant for deciding who actually owns a copyright, although you're right that film stills were generally not copyrighted. Note that since I'm currently banned from uploading anything, I can't help much beyond this. --Light show (talk) 05:48, 1 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hedy Lamarr photo

[edit]

As you have a lot of experience uploading PD images, would you mind uploading this PD Clarence Bull image of Lamarr from ebay?. If you do, please upload the front and back to show that this is an original photo without a copyright notice. To capture the full images, you can left click on the images. The license and summary details would be similar to this photo. I can take care of cleaning it up the image after it's uploaded. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

1. I own the photo 2. It is date stamped on the back "1919" 3. It is a public domain image, from a collection that dates from the same pre-1920 era. 4. Studio publicity photos- from the pre-1960 or so era- are all public domain by US Court decision.

So, kindly tell me what tag is needed to keep the image from being deleted, or better still, please fix it yourselves. You are the assumed experts in this field, and given the info I've supplied you, could remedy any problems in a matter of seconds.

File:BARTO and MANN Signed.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!
