Categorization

Hey Classicfilms, you've categorized an image of a river as Category:Mount Holyoke College. Could you explain? Thanks, Ibn Battuta (talk) 04:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi There, I don't check here very often so I just read your message. This is a view from the mountain "Mount Holyoke" which is the namesake for Mount Holyoke College and is part of the college's identity. Hope that clarifies it for you. -Classicfilms (talk) 00:23, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Classicfilm, Thanks for your reply! Yes, I know that the mountain is the namesake of the college, but that's why you had already categorized the category of the college in the category of the mountain (range), right? I don't think it's helpful to categorize in addition every single image of the mountain (range) or simply taken from the mountain (range) in the college category. First, because it's not this image belonging to the college, but the college belonging to Mount Holyoke--if anything, Mount Holyoke College should be categorized as "Mount Holyoke" (which it is). Second, what categorizing images from the Holyoke Range as "MHC" would ultimately do is have tons of images of the mountain (range) in the college category. The natural next step would be to move all of them into one category. Now this category would be what? It would be "Mount Holyoke (Range), the namesake of Mount Holyoke College"--and thus be entirely synonymous to the already existing category:Mount Holyoke Range.

To make a long story short :o) -- that's why I've decategorized the image. If you see it differently, obviously please let's discuss it.
