Sources for Mars 2020 images

Hi Chinakpradhan, you need to provide the source urls that link directly to the image pages instead of the raw image gallery (https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/multimedia/raw-images/). That raw image gallery has thousands of images and more are added every day so after just a few days the images you posted will get buried and hard to find. Linking just to the gallery does not tell later users where each specific image actually came from.

Here is an example of the page you should include as the source for these images:

https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/multimedia/raw-images/SIF_0037_0670231500_125EBY_N0031392SRLC07000_0000LUJ

To find this page for each image from the gallery page, click on the image and then click "Full Caption".

Also can you upload the original images instead of edited versions? The images are already in full color as processed by the Mars 2020 team and do not need editing.

Thanks!

Thanks for uploading File:Ingenuity unfolded 0210337594729.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

And:

I specified that I took from NASA's raw image taken from Mars 2020 https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/multimedia/raw-images/ . No more evidence is needed. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

These warnings are because you did not include a license tag on any of these images. You need to add {{PD-USGov-NASA}} to images from NASA otherwise they may be deleted. Besides this, can you please read what I wrote in the section above? Linking to that gallery is not helpful because there are thousands of images in there and it will quickly be very hard to find the actual image source as those images get buried. You need to link to each image's specific image page. --Yarnalgo (talk) 16:30, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
These latest two are also missing a license tag:]
--Yarnalgo (talk) 16:33, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I have fixed this for you one last time. Please follow that example for any new images you upload (and fix the rest of the ones you've already uploaded), or I will keep tagging them as having no license and/or no source and they may be deleted. Thanks. --Yarnalgo (talk) 16:38, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi Chinakpradhan, I appreciate you including a license tag and trying to link to a specific image page instead of the gallery with your latest upload, but you have to actually link to the image page for the image you uploaded, not a different image. I fixed this for you again. Please just link to the image page where you got the image from. This really is not difficult, and I am getting a little frustrated cleaning up your uploads every day after I've explained multiple times how to do it and showed you examples. When you upload an image from the Mars 2020 website, include the link to the image page of the image that you uploaded. Not the gallery page and not the image page for a different image. Thanks. --Yarnalgo (talk) 18:27, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Sorry for this i don't know how I put the link for a previous photo instead of this photo Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:18, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi, Chinakpradhan, you can't simply overwrite an existing image with a completely other one! Please read COM:OVERWRITE. I've uploaded a proper designated and licenced version for instance. --Ras67 (talk) 22:39, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Flight map of Ingenuity

Hi, I made a new current map (Sol 124). I'm not allowed to update/overwrite your file

Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Traverse Path And Ingenuity Helicopter Flight Path

, but I can send you that file if you want to, eg. via email or file hoster link.Schrauber5 (talk) 18:30, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

Yes send the file hoster link. Chinakpradhan (talk) 00:52, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

What's the soucre of the current (end of flight 9) position? Schrauber5 (talk) 11:43, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

I am not the liable person to ask. remember my wikipedia talk page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Chinakpradhan Cherurbino told me. If you want directly ask him Cherurbino why he gave me saying as his work. In short, the questions asked to me now must be asked to him Chinakpradhan (talk) 14:55, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

I'll ask him. Schrauber5 (talk) 19:32, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

I think that the scale bar (as visible in versions from 16:26, 9 June 2021, 01:58, 29 June 2021, 02:05, 29 June 2021, 12:06, 8 July 2021) is not misleading but helpful. I would include it again in an update.

I thing that two pictures are not needed, do to the waypoint dots the difference between flight 9 and the previous flight, is better visible in the top picture, so the second with flight 9 marked yellow can be omitted. 194.39.218.10 09:19, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Boeingg CFT image

I removed Boeing Crew with Chris Ferguson (2020).jpg from the pages for one single reason: the mission is 3 members, not 4 and the Wiki should depict in the infobox and lists the images with the real number of crew members. The image with Chris Fergunson is only good for the backstory, not in the place of an official (or the nearest we have) image with the real 3 members. And you also can't just upload a new and totally different image above the original as what happened here or here (5 different images should be 5 different uploads, not everything in the same place). Bad rectangle ratio of the Ingenuity flight path map

Perseverance enters Séítah on sol 201

Dear Chinakpradhan! I hope you understand the reasons of my last revert from your version of the map that I explained in the comment.

  1. The ratio between height and width of your maps matters more than their 'physical' length in pixels. The system automatically adjusts the height basing upon the width that the user sets in the template of the article. Meanwhile the pictures are not the single (and not the main) element of the article: text and its allocation matters more. If the uploader changes the sizing, all the wikies that use it may experience undesirable consequences, especially when the picture after relative growing in height 'pushes down' the headers of the next sections with their text. Please think of the readers: what they see on their computers (not only mobile devices that you use).
  2. Please switch off the 'Wright Brothers Field' zone before screenshotting. It was actual only during the demo phase. More over, the name of the map supposes to show only flight paths (with waypoints), but not "flight zones" which are a kind of offtopic for the file with such a name.

To ensure you in my best attitude to your tremendous efforts in inproving the 'Ingenuity article, and to your personally, let me present you the fresh map, dedicated to the two important events of the mission: the new record in daily drive of 'Perseverance' set on sol 200 and the deep entry into Seitah which was considered to be a hazardous zone for the rover. I shall not place it in en-wiki (I abandoned their article), however you may )).

Best regards, Cherurbino (talk) 11:10, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Oh and i had problem only with wright Brothers field thanks for solving Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:41, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, Can you suggest a tag line for this image if I keep this along with the live flight path one. As I want to keep the live one till the end of the mission Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:59, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Because without reason it will be removed by page shorteners like molly Brown Chinakpradhan (talk) 14:10, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

I don't understand what do you mean under the 'tag line'. If you mean the source link, then it is the same that you mention in your file - NASA's web service 'Where is the rover'. All the inscriptions (except 'Map Scale') appear when you hover the cursor above the detail: 'dot' of waypoint shows sol and line of waytrack shows the length. All the underlying information is provided by NASA. Since the method of acquiring the final image is screenshoting (there's no link to a single file), then the mosaic from a series of screenshots is a proper method for making such maps.
On the Russian page you may see the first animation for the forthcoming flight 14 - the pre-flight blades' rotating test. Cherurbino (talk) 19:01, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, I mean I asked a appropriate caption to be used in the en-wiki page of ingenuity. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:08, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Nevertheless l have uploaded with your caption Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:26, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, you told that
Please switch off the 'Wright Brothers Field' zone before screenshotting. It was actual only during the demo phase. More over, the name of the map supposes to show only flight paths (with waypoints), but not "flight zones" which are a kind of offtopic for the file with such a name.
Today I want to ask that since the rover is returning to Octavia landing site and helicopter is returning back to Wright Brothers field can just for a ample time from flight 18 or flight 19. I want to emphasise its return so can I turn on the helicopter flight zone mode for a couple of flights and turn off after 2 post return flights. Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:54, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Curiosity

File:Curiosity Traverse Path showing its current location.png can you improve this too please. Chinakpradhan (talk) 14:33, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Along with that the problem in curiosity mam is the black and white that is end of map area section that becomes necessary to be in image please fix it Chinakpradhan (talk) 14:49, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the credence )), I did.
As you see, in the top right corner I used the 'brand' information plaque 'Sol number + way travelled' from the NASA's site. If you prefer the big-big letters, you may 1) upload my file, 2) make a new screenshot of that empty area; 3) write 'sol 3222' in the fontsize you prefer, 4) clip all this back and upload as a new version of this file.
Futher additions may also be done on the basis of my file. Lifehack 'how to make the new "sol + way" plaque larger (like I did): simple ctrl++ the display size ~3 times in your browse and screenshot the result. Best regards, Cherurbino (talk) 19:58, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a lot Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:05, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Ah Cherurbino the black and white problem is still there in your version Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:19, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

In the bottom right side Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:21, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Dear Chinakpradhan, sorry for not catching of what you inderstood under the 'black and white problem'. If you mean a small triangle where map loses the color and turns b/w, I must disappoint you: there's no way to fix it. You may check with the entire database of the HiRISE maps at this official site, but most probably you shall not find the 'colored' section even there. Not all the photos of MRO orbiter are 'colored'/ Cherurbino (talk) 19:55, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Ok thanks Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:06, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Ingenuity_Helicopter_Base_Station_on_Perseverance_Rover

Hi, Chinakpradhan! Today I noticed that one of your files I use in my article was deleted and converted to redirest - look here Were you warned about its deletion?

I wrote something about it at the Talk page of the person wo did it; as I see, you are a frequent guest at hise page.

Actually, specifically this illustration is a big pain in the ass. If I had a legal grounds for it, I would nominate it for deletion in all versions, no matter who uploaded it, you or DrBogdan. Reason: this photo has a history of double misguide on the side of NASA. First was when they wrote about 'gold-colored box' in their official description (that box is a module of RIMFAX). Second was when after numerous complaints they added the picture with 'the blue circle' and wrote 'here is the Base Station' - while everybody sees disattached cables above the scratched piece of card. At this photo there's no 'Base station' at all! And up to present nobody in NASA moved a finger to replace ths shameful photo of the empty place with the normal photo of the Base Station. Cherurbino (talk) 21:06, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

I support you Cherurbino. Sometimes huntster gives me a shock somewhat like coronary thombosis. I am leaving him since he took it under the name of merging. I think he likes making things controversial. Coming to this topic I have abandoned this image after finding the erors in image. I have worked on NASA errors like those of iss visiting vehicles after nauka docking but this is too much incorrect one. Sorry I am in IST that is I was sleeping so couldn't voice in the discussion. Congratulations, for the matter being solved, you won the discussion. I just feel sad that you asked him if he had discussed with me or not and he ignored it and moved on with the topic. Huntster (t @ c) 04:54, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Sorry to have to request the deletion of this image, as I know how much you want to locate good Nauka images, but evidence suggests it is not a NASA photograph and that it is not released under a Commons-compatible license. Huntster (t @ c) 04:57, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

but then how is this image taken it shows its from us orbital segment but i forgot thomas pesquet delete it. Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:00, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

A big issue right now is that Pesquet is a proliferate and good photographer, moreso it seems than anyone else on the station right now. So, NASA likes using his material. When they don't specifically credit him, it makes it difficult for users like us to know what images are copyright free and which are copyrighted, so we have to be extra careful about what images we upload. Huntster (t @ c) 05:18, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

what to do i was going to add {{Db-f5}} to the page, this template was given by you. can i keep this image is there restriction on aki images Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:20, 27 September 2021 (UTC)

I don't recall ever saying to use that particular template, but what you can use is {{Copyvio}}. I also do not know what you mean by "can i keep this image is there restriction on aki images". Huntster (t @ c) 05:34, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Can I keep this image means can the be removed from deletion nomination tag aand second question is is if aki took the image that is there restrictions like pesquet images for akihiko hoshide a jaxa astronaut currently on us orbital segment and station commander if he didn't took this image and as you suspected this not a image by pesquet then it is purely American image or simply one of the free pd notice image Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:09, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Read the now archived talk of 2021 on Erick Soares3 's page Spacex Crew 3/ Inspiration4 you gave the Template:Db-f5 to me. Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:18, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Ah, regarding {{Db-f5}}, that only works on the English Wikipedia. Remember, each project is separate, and a template that works one place may not work elsewhere. On Commons, it's simplified to just {{Copyvio}}. As for this image, there is no evidence that Hoshide took this image. Even if he did, Hoshide is a JAXA employee, not NASA, so it would still be copyrighted. I remain confident, however, that Pesquet took the photo. Huntster (t @ c) 07:56, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

So I am removing the image Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:05, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Please don't tell me first tell Erick Soares3 that he published wrong images. I accept mine one to be wrong and fit for deletion along with that Chinakpradhan (talk) 07:31, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Overwriting images

I saw that you overwrote the file at File:The Soyuz MS-18 crew ship is pictured docked to the Nauka multipurpose laboratory module.jpg‎. I have warned you before about overwriting one image with a completely different image. Do not do this again. While overwriting may be acceptable in specific circumstances, like minor touch-ups, crops, or for updating dynamic files like what you do with the ISS visiting vehicles image, uploading totally different images over existing ones, even when the old image is up for deletion, is never acceptable. Huntster (t @ c) 13:55, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Sorry i was changing all the details entirely for that. as i was never got objection for File:Zhurong rover and Tianwen-1 lander as seen by MRO in Southern Utopia Planitia.jpg. so i did it. Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:56, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

and this is deletion nomination pageChinakpradhan (talk) 14:08, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

You didn't receive an objection because no one apparently noticed. Even Davey who renamed the file, it seems, but I'm not necessarily surprised by that. I'm telling you now, formally and as an admin, do not do this again. This *one* time, I will delete the old Zhurong image because so much time has passed, but I will not do this again. Briefly, the reason for not doing this involves potential legal issues since a future user could potentially see an old, potentially copyrighted image in the file's history but currently showing a free license, and reuse it under the improper license. That's merely one scenario; there can be numerous others. Huntster (t @ c) 14:27, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
No, actually, I take that back. I will not delete the old version, because of the potential that the nominated files could be found to be acceptably free and kept. Please upload the MRO image to a new filename, and copy over the description page. Once done, I will revert back to the version that was nominated. Huntster (t @ c) 14:32, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

New Ingenuity image

Hi, Chinakpradhan! A very small (really small, 200×150 only) gift to your collection of Ingenuity images - File:Ingenuity sol 092 field C.png. Just to remind: sol 92 is the next after the 'glorious' flight 6.

My friendly advice: do not carry it to en-wiki ))) Don't make them mad - there are more than enough images there. Better find some other wiki which writes about flight 6 - this flight is the only reason which may justify the appearance of another-more-picture in the article. Caption 'Ingenuity after flight 6' will be enough. — Best regards, Cherurbino (talk) 02:43, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks a lot Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:47, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

BTW your Russian version whom you edit is too good Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:00, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the compliments! If you noticed, recently both my Mars2020-related articles in ru-wiki (ru:Ingenuity and Jezero) were awarded the Blue Star of the "Good article" status. I continue to work upon them: 3 days ago a lot of scientific materials on Jezero appeared. Cherurbino (talk) 12:22, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

I will take a little bit time traversing through various wikis to find that the ingenuity pages that find the above criteria of your image Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:49, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

After traversing through half of all the wikipedias Cherurbino, i saw only French Wikipedia page. this even focuses on texts rather than visualization through media files. others are either brief pages, section in a mars 2020 page or just a translation of enwiki. i am trying to find but the criteria you need may be hard to find except you russian version. see where i get a location for your image in wikis outside your russian version.Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:52, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

flight 14

Hi, Chinakpradhan! In you need: yesterday I uploaded two static b/w NAV photos at Category:Ingenuity flight 14. — Cherurbino (talk) 02:56, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

how is ingenuity hovering in File:Ingenuity flight 14 hover.png if it didn't left the ground. please explain Cherurbino. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

On sol 240 it was on the ground (50 rpm blade test). But next day (sol 241) it made a 'hop' and hovered at the 5-m level which is confirmed by the NAV photo File:Ingenuity flight 14 hover.png/ — Cherurbino (talk) 09:41, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
+ proof from the "unreliable source":
Pam Melroy just announced at the IAC the 14th flight was successfully completed post-conjunction and it flew with the highest rotor speed so far.“ — Cherurbino (talk) 11:26, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Ok thanks for advane news Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Ok thanks for advance news Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:03, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

So Cherurbino as you said it's an unreliable source should I post the stats of flight 14 now at en-wiki without confirmation at twitter website Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:08, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

New [twitter https://twitter.com/NASAJPL/status/1452676656846426112] confirms. Cherurbino (talk) 19:19, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

And please confirm Cherurbino if the green color good for indicating location of ingenuity and perseverance in the map image Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:14, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

That's upon you to decide - you are the uploader. Me personally, I prefer 256 grays. No colors. But that in only my POV which I leave at myself. Cherurbino (talk) 19:19, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

final status

further map tracking

I looked at the en-wiki Ingenuity page and must honestly say that my File:Perseverance enters Séítah on sol 201.jpg has lost its actuality. You may remove it from the article without replacement. It has served its duty )), and now it's time for it to 'go asleep' in the archive.

I understand, that 'sol 201' file is much older but I really have no 'artistic idea' how to provide its 'visual readability'. Percy moves in very small steps. Such small, that they shall be almost invisible in the scale of our map - look at the map of Phil Stooke. Furthermore, judging upon the last photos of rocks I may expect Percy to stuck rather sooner that later for another core sample. It means +5/7 days more.

In these circumstances my proposal to you is not to write 'SOL 000' on your next big maps until Percy shall resume running in high speed back to the landing site. Let the picture remain the same; change only the file description in the article. Cherurbino (talk) 03:24, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

but Cherurbino, if ginny changes its location i shall change my big maps along with the 'SOL 000'. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

why is boxes of important sites coming in the nasa sreenshot. it didnt came in earlier screenshots Cherurbino. it detoriated the image appearance. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:24, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Chinakpradhan, when you're on https://mars.nasa.gov/maps/location/?mission=M20, click on the "hamburger" icon in the top left corner, and unselect "Surface View". That will get rid of the site boxes. Huntster (t @ c) 05:08, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

thanks Huntster going to correct my curiosity map image one.Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:10, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, a simple request to you.

I am out of station so can't change the map as I am without my desktop. I use paint 3d of windows to edit the map suitably. So can you please change the map accordingly. I will not return home before 15 December 2021 Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:01, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

thank you

Dear Chinakpradhan, thank you for your last edits in ru-wiki! Your help was actual.

Please note, that even after my recent amendments my work with the flight/activities tables shall not be considered as final. I mean the new row for 19.10.2021 11:07:15 (sol 236) - there's a separate photo for this day. I added it only in the list of flghts while the main article shall be improved later. Cherurbino (talk) 09:14, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks to ru-wiki too I used it for many Pages Cherurbino. If you see my recent edit in enwiki Cherurbino, I have told what I copied from ru-wiki.Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:54, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino can you help me with a question on Zvezda module aft Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:39, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

File:Zvezda rear - open.jpg, what is the arm like thing on this aft port of zvezda module why it is there. I don't know so I want to know it. Please help me CherurbinoChinakpradhan (talk) 15:41, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Actually I didn't mattered it too much but today on progress ms 18 docking I saw it I went to en wiki zvezda module page and got no information on it. If you are unfamiliar with this topic please seek the answer you know, who knows the answer. Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:45, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

link to monitor new percy/ginny photos

Here it is. There's an option box to switch between Curiosity, Perseverance and Ingenuity, plus the text edit box with the button to search for specific sols.

Today is sol 244 however the button 'Latest' returns only a few photos for sol 242. My guess that this delay may be explained with uploading a mass of photos which were taken automatically during the solstice. Cherurbino (talk) 09:28, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

My guess was wrong. All the photos from those that were taken during the conjunction without the commands from Earth Nasa are already uploaded to the hub rkinnett.github.io (sols 215-219, 224-226, 231-233).

Meanwhile the delay with publishing the next daily set of photos continues to increase. The last observable sol is still 242 while in a few hours sol 245 shall begin. Something's wrong with Percy? NASA's blogs keep silence. Nobody asks “where is the rover” although usually every new day brings discussions around the new images. Cherurbino (talk) 20:12, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

I don't use unofficial sources too much Cherurbino as i wait till nasa confirmation. recently i used a note of ingenuity's horizontal distance flown to be 2.75m that turned out to be 2m. Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:26, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

  • You see, there's a big difference between knowledge (awareness) and usage. To be smart, you must be the first among those who catch fresh news. But this time advantage should be used only to get your preliminary judgements and reflections on this news (as well as to search for alternative sources). Not for publishing, uploading etc. I appreciate your prudency when you do not hurry to publish and wait until the official info appears. Thus when I pre-inform you about some likely upcoming events, I aim you only at further searches, not at immediate publication. Cherurbino (talk) 10:44, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
  • Just FYI (=for your information): here's my request at NSF - let's wait for a “more official” )) (however not reliable) answers from those who are closer to the Agency than some stubborn foreigners like us )) Cherurbino (talk) 10:53, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Sh i guess do you remember that some software problems have occured in curiosity like system crash I suspect that only Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:28, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

    • Curiosity resumed operations same day with Perseverance and keeps on sending photos without interrupts. Last were received 14 hours ago - see the 3280-th sol of its mission. If you haven't read the answer I got at the NSF forum: they reminded me the words from old (Oct. 12) status report, that "After conjunction, only remote science will be allowed until all critical engineering data has been received and assessed which may take a few days to sort through the massive data downlink".
    • Technically both rovers are identical → volume of check-up telemetry to downlink and assess on Earth is roughly the same. Resuming of Percy's moving and Ginny's flying means that the post-conjunction evaluations are over! The interrupt of the data inflow affected only Percy… for us it remains only to hope for the best. Cherurbino (talk) 23:59, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
      • Breaking news: Percy resumed its operations after the 3-sol break caused by the software update. All newly received footage is dated October 29 (sol 246). Sols 243, 244 and 245 are missing. Cherurbino (talk) 02:03, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, I haven't seen any of your ingenuity flight animations for flight 17 and 18 (actually any of ingenuity images). Is there any problem in getting the images needed to make gif animations outside nasa perseverance raw image gallery. I am anxious and desperate to get those gifs by you. Chinakpradhan (talk) 11:21, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

Does this tweet says right that all the images came today only. Chinakpradhan (talk) 11:46, 11 January 2022 (UTC)

I believe Cherurbino is dealing with real-life issues at the moment, so I would not expect them to be back on Commons for some time. Huntster (t @ c) 16:06, 12 January 2022 (UTC)

Huntster, I am in no hurry I just gave him the resources for future so that it doesn't end up duplication of my uploads like the conflict that had occurred in between you and me for new iss images. Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:58, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

flight 14 details

Re your last remark “recently i used a note of ingenuity's horizontal distance flown to be 2.75m that turned out to be 2m”: I don't want to make further splits in your comment and start a new topic for discussion of this subject. Let's return to the official info you mention

The short 23-second flight included a peak altitude of 16 feet (5 meters) above ground level, with a small sideways translation of 7 feet (2 meters) to avoid a nearby sand ripple.

Flight 14 Successful. Status #341. JPL (26.10.2021).

I hope you already know that the word “translation” in the air navigation context means “a shift aside”, not conversion between two languages, so be attentive with automatic linguistic translations (!) of such reports.

Let's carry out trivial arithmetic calculations. 2 m / 23 seconds = 87 cm/sec horizontal speed. According to the rounding rules, 87 is closer to 90, not 50! Therefore, I do not understand on what basis do they show 0.5 instead of 0.9 in the flight log.

This criticis is only FYI. No actions on your behalf are required. Simply keep in mind that the reliability of source does not always guarantee the accuracy of digital data. (As for me, I added these calculations to the footnotes, but this is not the example to be followed for everybody). Cherurbino (talk) 12:06, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Do you consider the time for hover at a fixed place in you calculations Cherurbino. That may alter you calculated results Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:42, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Its not something like a rocket gets drifted a little more sideways while travelling in such direction after lift off due to earths gravity, but a intentional change in location. So it can be climb to 5 m, move sideways 2m, and hover or no hover and land Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:47, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Yes! "sideways drift" is the best synonym for "translation" in our local context. Cherurbino (talk) 14:00, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Not just climb and fall 2m away Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

So time may be wasted in hovering Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:48, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

23 seconds is the total time when Ingenuity's legs were away from the ground. It includes a) climbing b) hovering / drifting or flight (if any) and last c) descent. See the April video about the 1-st flight where Havard Grip follows all these 3 elements in his report. Therefore the verb 'waisted' is inappropriate here. Better: 'spent for…'. Because 'waisted' often supposes 'in vain' (Huntster may correct me here if I am wrong.) Cherurbino (talk) 14:00, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, I was not talking on if I meant wasted Or spent for. Matther was on calculation Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:07, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Cherurbino, flight 15 is successful cheer up annd add information on your ru wiki page. i have done on en wiki one. i have made the flight 15 wikimedia category so upload the gif of the 5 b/w images to it. we can say today is ingenuity completing 3 years of life if we consider its first birthday the day it completed 5 flights. happy birthday ginny from my point of view. May you live longer than voyager 1 and 2.Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:19, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Shenzhou 10 & 11

Hi Chinakpradhan. Sadly I couldn't find any pictures of the crew of Shenzhou 10 & 11 on the YouTube channel of China News Services. Those missions have their years and it's very difficult to search in a channel that uploads videos every day, I haven't give up my hope but for the moment there's nothing, sorry.--BugWarp (talk) 18:10, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

BugWarp, i wanted to publish the crew portraits of shenzhou 10 and 11 anyhow to commons like the shenzhou 12 and 13 mission under creative commons as i saw in those images i searched for videos under creative commons and finally i got those kind of images on [1] and [2], that are from ian benecken's youtube channel. Can I upload them to Commons Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:13, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

BugWarp, I saw Commons:YouTube files say I can do upload videos and screenshots from them if it's under cc lisence but still I have a doubt.please clarify. Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:17, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Answered on my talk page. Huntster (t @ c) 03:11, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
I agree with Huntster's response, there's no way to confirm that the actual copyright holder released that footage under CC-BY.--BugWarp (talk) 11:52, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

Ok OK I have agreed so said nothing more after thpat Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:42, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

You only said my one was incompatible with commons and then how is your version on Wikimedia Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:14, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

The article called Cargo Dragon C209 needed that image and you said in my first discussion on your talk page that this image is not allowed on commons Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:18, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

After that how can this be reuploaded and that too by you.. Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:33, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Because you uploaded the image from Twitter and it had no EXIF data. No evidence that it was freely licensed because by default SpaceX cannot be assumed to release images freely. Months later, I come across that image on the NASA Image website, where it's apparent that it is actually released by SpaceX under CC-Zero, but by that time I didn't remember it was the same file I had nominated earlier, because I nominate and/or process a lot of files. I'm sorry if you feel slighted, but take this as evidence to not upload from Twitter. Files there are rarely verifiable as freely licensed. Huntster (t @ c) 05:52, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

Ok Huntster no I can delete the fair use version from wikipedia Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:54, 21 December 2021 (UTC)

ah huntster, have you noticed this guy, AlfenMeister. he is taking out background less versions of some images from en-wiki and uploading to commons under his name. see it here. some are esa ones and some are nasa ones and the nasa ones lack pd-lisence. recently i saw a upload from him File:Janus probe.png, that is from lockheed martin. all he is doing it is creating disrupted images, become the lead image of en wiki files. can you check his actions Chinakpradhan (talk) 18:51, 25 December 2021 (UTC)
Interesting. I see Polarlys has already nominated them all for deletion at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by AlfenMeister, if you care to comment there. Good catch! Huntster (t @ c) 19:18, 25 December 2021 (UTC)

recomendations whether to delete or not.

hi Huntster, i recently uploaded images to SpaceX crew-4. but i orgot to see the exif data this time and it says, "SpaceX Crew-4 Preflight and Training Provided by SpaceX". this statement puts the this nasa johnson images under spacex lisence. please suggest whther i shoulkd delete them lor not, based on the current situation where spacex images are uploaded under expired spacex lisence. if yes i will myself delete them. Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:22, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

That is correct. Unless SpaceX explicitly releases an image under a free license (and even now they sometimes do, where it will be specifically mentioned in the EXIF data that an image is released under CC-Zero), then it remains copyrighted. Unfortunately they'll all have to go. Huntster (t @ c) 15:41, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

So Huntster, I an beginning the process of clearance of wikimedia to get rid of these files and completing them in a minute. Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:19, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Huntster, I am using this as a notce.

{{Copyvio|1=The SpaceX license template at {{tl|cc-zero-SpaceX}} is expired and unless SpaceX explicitly releases an image under a free license, which is typically done in the image's EXIF data (as "Here is our public domain dedication" with link), their upload to Commons is a copyright violation.}}

NASA HQ Flickr images

Hi Chinak, you recently uploaded several images from the NASA HQ Flickr page. The issue is that at least a couple of them were actually SpaceX photos: File:SpaceX Crew-4 Preflight 40.jpg and File:SpaceX Crew-4 Preflight 41.jpg. I've gone ahead and fixed the licenses, but please be mindful of who is actually responsible for a photograph. Check the EXIF data! If you'll look at the changes I made to those two pages, you'll see what needs to be done for similar SpaceX photos that are licensed as CC-Zero (not all SpaceX images are licensed that way, though, so be careful). Let me know if you have any questions. Huntster (t @ c) 23:55, 21 April 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster but then why is The image description saying Photo credit: NASA/Kim Shiflett. I tagged nasa pd by that Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:00, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

It must be somewhat like Photo credit: NASA/SpaceX/Kim Shiflett Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:06, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

What? Which image are you referring to? Both images I linked to above clearly show they are SpaceX images, and don't mention Mrs. Shiflett anywhere. Huntster (t @ c) 21:14, 22 April 2022 (UTC)

Take for example in File:SpaceX Crew-4 Preflight 40.jpg the flickr page description says, "SpaceX’s Crew Dragon – named Freedom by the Crew-4 astronauts – atop the company’s Falcon 9 rocket, rolls out to Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on April 19, 2022. NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Bob Hines, and Jessica Watkins, and ESA (European Space Agency) astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, who arrived at Kennedy one day ago, will fly to the International Space Station on NASA’s SpaceX Crew-4 mission. Liftoff is targeted for Saturday, April 23, at 5:26 a.m. EDT. Photo credit: NASA/Kim ShiflettKim Shiflett

NASA image use policy." Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:50, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

I saw in description in spacex ones it used to say credit spacex or photo courtesy spacex but this was not in this case this looks annoying to me. I thought Kim Shiflett to be nasa photographer and used pd of nasa. @User:Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:52, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

I said for both images BTW Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:09, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Ahhh, I see. That is an error on the part of NASA, who provided the description for SpaceX's photo and then added it to their Flickr account. Yes, it is confusing. But, as I said before, trust the EXIF data. SpaceX only rarely identifies who their photographers are, and Mrs. Shiflett is definitely a NASA/Kennedy employee. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Huntster (t @ c) 04:15, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Ya @Huntster seems I have to keep a pinpointed eye on every line of exif data earlier I used to judge by artist name only. Otherwise you know that I was a great user of SpaceX license earlier but stopped due to it being risky if not getting an appropriate spacex free image. Along with thought of license expiry in 2018.Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:02, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Yes, exactly. The blanket license became ineffective then, but they still release some of their images under the cc-zero license. I don't really know what their criteria for release is. Huntster (t @ c) 14:04, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks btw for correcting me. Chinakpradhan (talk) 18:01, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Ingenuity Helicopter flight map update

Hi,

The file File:Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Traverse Path And Ingenuity Helicopter Flight Path.png needs to be updated. Ingenuity has had one more flight than indicated on the image, and Perseverance has traveled much farther. Since you created the image, I am asking you to update it.

K1401986 (talk) 16:01, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

@K1401986 i know it needs to update but it take time and massive editing on my own software i will update in the coming days Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:08, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

PIA25322 upload request

Hi, Chinakpradhan! May I ask you to do a favour, uploading a new image from this PIA catalog page? This chart was attached to the last JPL/Ingenuity blog record: Teddy Tzanetos (27.05.2022). Ingenuity Adapts for Mars Winter Operations. Status #382. JPL..

Standard name for this new upload could be 'PIA25322-Environmental Plot at Jezero.jpg'

Categories:

  1. Jezero (Martian crater)
  2. Ingenuity helicopter
  3. Climate of Mars

The source for other basic data (description, NASA license, NASA/JPL-Caltech credits etc.) are on the PIA catalog page itself - you have already passed through this pattern on April, 6 when you've uploaded the file Mars Atmosphere Density Model.jpg.

Best regards, and thanx in advance. 37.144.215.81 16:36, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

done @37.144.215.81 Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:47, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

Ok i lve in ist ( indian standard time and it's 23:35) so going to sleep and will do this tomorrow, 37.144.215.81. I also saw this update earlier today. Chinakpradhan (talk) 18:07, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

File:Ingenuity flight 8 real-time animation (75 seconds).gif

Regarding the file Ingenuity flight 8 real-time animation (75 seconds).gif, do not again upload a significantly different file over a previously existing file as you did here. Upload it to a new filename. I've uploaded your revised animation to Ingenuity flight 8 full real-time animation.gif, and I'm in the process of correcting the links and descriptions for both. Regarding the use of {{Current}}, only use that for graphics and similar items that need to grow over time, not for situations like this where both the old and new animations are useful. Huntster (t @ c) 03:01, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

Ok thanks Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:02, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster hows the File:Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Traverse Path And Ingenuity Helicopter Flight Path.png now?? also i could't find husk colour (#baa854) on wiki, is it not here?? Chinakpradhan (talk) 16:34, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
Looks good! If possible, I would suggest using a smaller, darker font for "Perseverance Rover" and "Ingenuity Helicopter", and for that matter, consider leaving out the "Rover" and "Helicopter" parts to keep it simple. I'm not sure what you're asking about for husk...are you asking why there isn't an article about the colour? If so, then I have no idea. Maybe it's just too esoteric for anyone to have written an article yet. Huntster (t @ c) 17:47, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

No I meant that there is no mention of husk colour in pages like this enwiki one (see for N-Z shades page some are there with no pages of their own, do not considering it). I wanted to link the husk colour in image description of above image. The flight path of ingenuity in the map is shown in husk colour. And Huntster I think you are write not to display the words "helicopter " and "rover" as the blue symbols are indicating them. So I will mind removing these words after the next ingenuity flight as flight no. 30 may be nearing. Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:35, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Husk isn't in the list simply because it isn't part of any officially recognized digital color collection, which I believe is what those articles draw from. The only mention I could find was at https://hextoral.com/hex-color/BAA854/sikkens/, which indicates it is a colour used by the Sikkens company for their paint products. Huntster (t @ c) 13:22, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
ahhhh!!! ok then i think thats reason thanks for clarity then i think i have to use this template @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 13:34, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
Yes, that template is perfect for this purpose, especially since it's also available on Commons at {{Color}}. Huntster (t @ c) 13:43, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Slides from mars sample return presentations

On another issue, I saw your uploads of the "Slides from mars sample return presentations..." series. Are you going to go back and provide descriptions for the images you uploaded? They have little value without descriptions. Remember this general rule: if you cannot describe what you are uploading, it is best to simply not upload it. Huntster (t @ c) 03:06, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

just asking @Huntster will captions like description work as all images are from nasa pdfs that only have captions like decription(many have no captions even) like File:Slides from mars sample return presentations 21.png taken from this pdf. Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:33, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Use your best judgement based on the information given. What you wrote for Slides from mars sample return presentations 21.png is good! For situations like Slides from mars sample return presentations 20.png, which is a component I cannot identify, you can just write something like "Unknown component of ESA's Earth Return Orbiter". Huntster (t @ c) 03:43, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
and as per my know that unknown component is outer look of ccrs. anyway i needed to say that since you reminded me this, i have to correct 16 images under "Mars Sample Return" named series those were captions less images with just 3 word description "Mars sample Return" ( other after that have caption and heading so heading is also of caption). @Huntster do we need to create a new category called somewhat like, "artists conception of mars sample return" and place all these images there except those images where real life components like fetch rover wheels image. the main reason is this mission is in conceptual phase and older images are still in that category and even new proposals can arrive. so should a new category be made?? Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:00, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
real essence of mission is lost to a reader arriving to see the category Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:01, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Hmm, I really need to think on this one. One one hand you are correct and there are a lot of tangentially connected images in that one category. On the other hand, a category name like "Artist conceptions of Mars Sample Return" would encompass the vast majority of the images there, new and old and in-between. I'll try to think of a category name (or names) that can encompass specific sections of images.
Also, the main category should probably be transitioned into something more generic, since "Mars sample return" can describe any effort to retrieve samples from Mars. Something else I'll think about.
Basically, for the moment, I wouldn't worry about it much. It is not an immediate problem, and can be addressed at any time. Sample return is still many years away! Huntster (t @ c) 04:13, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
take your time no rush and most of them are just of mars ascent vehicle Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:46, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
@Huntster just for your info, File:Slides from mars sample return presentations 19.png this image tells how this plan changes everytime and makes thinks difficult for a first time reader. Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:05, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
That's a really nice graphic showing the design progression, shame it's so small. Not sure where it's actually from, though. Huntster (t @ c) 02:55, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
from one pdf i deleted over my desktop cant see it on web now. sorry for the source inavailibility @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:31, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Ok going for that Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:08, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

✓ Done @Huntster can you help out if you know of a missle launch from its silo like vector File:Slides from mars sample return presentations 17.png till now i know only one that is air launch to orbit rockets but they do this upside down (that is vector releases up, air launch to orbit release down) so cant use. Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:05, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Can you clarify what you're asking for? I don't think I'm understanding the question. I'm not aware of any launch provider using silos to launch orbital rockets from. Huntster (t @ c) 03:07, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
you saw the pattern of rocket release in the image File:Slides from mars sample return presentations 17.png i want an earthly launch probably missiles that launched like this @Huntster (air launch to orbit was an example that rockets are released down from plane. but i want something that releases up, without silo pulse). if you launch mav from earth its suborbital so not taking of suborbital or orbital rocket. Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:37, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
So the only system I can immediately think of that was stored horizontally and raised to launching position is the Atlas-E missile, seen here: Atlas-icbm-erection-large.jpg. It was stored in a "coffin" and raised vertical to launch. The next closest analogy is probably the transporter erector launcher, like the MAZ-547, MZKT-79221, and Ghauri. I'm not aware of anything like what NASA plans, where the rocket is catapulted upward while horizontal adding a slight pitch before igniting. It is weird and worrisome. I have a nightmare where the thing doesn't pitch properly before ignition and just plows into the Martian landscape. Huntster (t @ c) 09:18, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
oh and i see the closest we get to on earth is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZq3GXJrqw4 shown by scott manley at 13:21 timestamp in his video. and you said of nightmare. i have an imagination that they eject up correctly but rocket doesnt ignite. then you know rocket lost samples lost and it falls on lander so that too lost. what a thing and only fetch rover and percy is alive haha @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 14:40, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
Manley says "this is a very well tested concept", but the only experience we have doing anything similar is launching vertically from a silo, not throwing a horizontal object upward and then lighting. I suspect the mechanics of the two methods differs by quite a bit! This whole thing just feels unnecessarily risky. A lightweight strongback seems like it would take a lot of risk out of this whole endeavour. It's not like the pneumatic toss appears to gain the rocket any significant advantage over traditional launch methods. Huntster (t @ c) 23:51, 11 June 2022 (UTC)
ya their main motive was that if the mars sample retrieval lander 1 (MAV-SRL) landed on a soft martian soil, steep sloped hill, etc. and since its immobile, mav has to launch in those conditions. To avoid lander tipping over on ignition they thought of such technique + i think the problem of having a exhaust chamber is also removed so lander wont die (i dont know of apollo crewed and luna uncrewed landers after ascent stage ignition, but change'e 5 lander died on ignition) @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:41, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
this was the advantage other than that whole thing risky. anyway we arent nasa scientists so discussion is unworthy like ingenuity proved that nasa tech is something exceptional
i have asked many things to nasa and thomas zubruchen that [3] see the mars rover comparison i think fetch rover is just about the Mars Exploration Rover just a bit off weight so why make another lander use airbags or even since you're delaying exomars mission to 2026 rather than sending it to oxia planum send it to jezero (use it in place of fetch rover) with fetch rover wheels ,etc.
but i had no answer recieved, so i have lost hope from this. this is more complex thing that SLS, james webb, europa clipper, etc. i think that m2020 samples will be stranded on mars like they are. you have known of exomars sample return. i think this like the constellation program ended, this may end like that (but i dont want). Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:48, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
cant believe you launched a cacher and your program is still in conceptual phase. this is just awkard anyway leave this talk @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:50, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
@Huntster sorry to interrupt you but i got something from a pdf File:Mars Sample return mission logo.png can this official logo?? Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:40, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
I don't see anything wrong with it, but given its very basic design, I would not be surprised if it was a placeholder image for a proper, future logo. That said, the URL you provided does not include that logo anywhere, so unless a link can be provided verifying it is from a NASA source, we can't keep it. Huntster (t @ c) 17:52, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
@Huntster i just updated the link can you enhance the image pixel from the pdf i linked Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:54, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster, @Erick Soares3 gave me this link. you can also get one free book per email if you need. Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:30, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you! I'll add that to my reading list. Huntster (t @ c) 18:36, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Rocket lab

Do you think @Huntster that I should include rocket lab's photon that launched capstone to be a lunar probe as a flyby probe in en:List of lunar probes like the impactor centaur upper stage of LCROSS mission. Beck noted it will take pictures meaning it will do more than a impact rocket stage.

I also want to add the mysterious or anonymous upper stage while being supposed to be long march 3 upper stage that launched Chang'e 5-T1. It had impacted moon in March 2022 but it's not a thing doing exploration or helping in any exploration. So please say suggestions on this topic too. Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:48, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Given that it is performing active duties while on its flyby of the Moon, I think it's reasonable to include the Capstone Photon in the list. I do not, however, think it is appropriate to include the unknown booster. It was just debris striking the moon, and we still do not know exactly what it is. Huntster (t @ c) 19:24, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster what's the meaning of launch pad in infobox of space stations. There is a confusion. At ISS enwiki page it says for those launch sites where crew launch occurs and at Chinese TSS enwiki page it means the launch pad of module. A bit clumsy. Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:06, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

That is an issue that will have to be raised at their discussion pages. Per Template:Infobox space station, it is intended to show where the station components were launched from, but for whatever reason the ISS editors went against this. I suspect is it because there are multiple sites where ISS components have launched from, but Chinese modules have (afaik) been launched from a single site. Huntster (t @ c) 13:26, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster I got the answer and thank God I rectified it and corrected it by this edit. Problem was with some less experienced editors I saw a discussion in this archive + the original sites on that page launched modules, latest addition were dragon additions from slc 40 and nauka and prichal from 200/39 and 31/6 respectively. Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:01, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Nicely done. Huntster (t @ c) 19:28, 5 July 2022 (UTC)

Thank you Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:14, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Discussion for songs in NASA videos

@Huntster in these, File:14179 TAG Science 01.webpFile:14179 TAG Science 02.webpFile:14179 TAG Science 03.webpFile:14179 TAG Science 04.webp can you see what's the problem in these uploads and correct them. No preview loading if you wont look by clicking on it. Also have this Azadisat boarding pass. Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:42, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Can i upload it to commons like we do for the nasa boarding passes Chinakpradhan (talk) 18:39, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Regarding the videos, you converted them to WEBP instead of WEBM. WEBP is a format for images, so the decoder cannot read them properly. I'll work on it later, will likely have to delete them and reupload with a corrected conversion. Regarding the boarding pass, I honestly don't know enough about Indian copyright law, but it appears SpaceKidzIndia is a private organisation and not something government funded, I so would say that it could not be uploaded. Huntster (t @ c) 19:10, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:29, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Then I will convert it myself @Huntster so since SpaceKidzIndia is private I will not upload wikipedia only has liscense for indian governmental work only in case of space, isro. I was thinking since they gave me a boarding pass I thought I am now the copyright owner of my boarding pass.Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:31, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Ah, no. That is a common misconception. That's like a bank issuing you a credit card, and you claiming copyright on its design because your name is printed on it. No, the organisation retains copyright in its entirety. If you are going to convert them yourself, do you wish me to go ahead and delete those four files, since they will not work? Huntster (t @ c) 21:50, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
ok Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:48, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
ALSO!! Remember to *NOT* include any audio if copyrighted music is included. Songs do not lose their copyright just because NASA includes it in one of their videos. Huntster (t @ c) 21:51, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
wait a minute!! what you said @Huntster!! not to include music!! so before i convert see this page https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/14179 it says Universal Production Music: “Difficult Conversation” and “Into Motion” by Peter Larsen; “Big Data” by Dominique Dalcan; “Subsurface” by Ben Niblett and Jon Cotton; “Crypto Current” by Dominique Dalcan; “Spaceman” by Rainman. am i allowed to use them (check once). and the voice of people explaining the process (if this is allowed how to remove music but keep the voice as it is. sounds pesky). Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:48, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
I see no evidence that any of those songs are copyright free, so no, they cannot be included. Unfortunately there's no way to separate music from voiceover. It is very frustrating that NASA has tried to go for the "cool" factor in their productions instead of universal accessibility. Huntster (t @ c) 03:20, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Ya that's wrong Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:04, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

@Huntster my mind is saying, " Offah, how to handle this out??".Its because, the most frustrating and headache giving thing has arrived. (I will say the thing a little later). I want to say something why is nasa doing this, that is, not taking copyright or using free cc lisensed songs, when it is taking copyright on crew promotional posters that use nbcuniversal costumes. Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:46, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Because modern NASA (and, more specifically, modern graphic artists and producers) is more interested in the flashiness and "wow" of their works, rather than ensuring their material is as free as possible. And, even people who work in media can forget that "freely available" is not the same as "freely licensed". Huntster (t @ c) 05:01, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Now talking on the frustrating problem. It is that approximately all of my webm files uploaded on 2o December 2021 and 1 on 18 December 2021 are of nasa only and i haven't removed any sounds from them (including songs). What to do for them. Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:13, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

It may also include my File:Behind the Scenes Inspecting DART's Roll Out Solar Array ROSA Technology.webm that was entitled as media of the day (don't know the grounds for rewarding it by wikipedia, if it's audio was a violation) @Huntster.

For the topic of conversion of the 4 videos I think there is a standalone file that is first one without audio. It is satisfactory but you please say if someone is able to understand others without audioChinakpradhan (talk) 09:18, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Regarding the DART video, there are no music credits anywhere (on the site or in the video itself), which makes me believe the music was made in-house. As for the already-uploaded videos, don't worry about them now. They too did not list any music credits, so again I have to believe they were made in-house. Basically, if music credits are given and there's no indication the music is copyright free, or the music is obviously of commercial nature (i.e., something you'd hear on the radio), then remove the audio.
For the current videos we were talking about, NASA SVS provides captions, so those can be included in lieu of audio. I can upload the captions if you're unfamiliar with that process. Huntster (t @ c) 19:42, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

Please upload @Huntster and remove the existing 4 webp files. Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:45, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

I've removed the four old files, are you wanting me to reconvert and upload new ones? Huntster (t @ c) 05:17, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Ya you told, Huntster you can upload the captions. I don't know how to upload the captions so I asked you to upload them wholly. But if,Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:43, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

It can be uploaded after uploading the video (If I first upload the media and then you add captions to it, presumably, it maybe the timed text section), I can upload it on my own. Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:45, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

i am uploading the conversions you upload the captions @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:26, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
✓ Done @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 08:48, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Cool, I've added the timed text/captions to the two videos they were provided for. I must warn, though, that editors on Commons have a dim view of watermarks in videos and have a habit of raising a fuss over them. I'm trying to find a program that will convert the videos with acceptable quality and not include the watermark, but I'm at work right now and all my resources are at home. Will do more then. Huntster (t @ c) 16:07, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Ya it's a tough job I need subscription for any converter to do more than 200 mb of mp4 to webm converter. And as per your thoughts, it is a reverse case. It not the watermark for a converter changing mp4 to webm but it's the muter that is the application that removed the video's audio. If you are of hold a application that removes audio without watermark please tell @Huntster. if there is such a application known please tell I will upload newly in same file without watermark Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:17, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

I meant overwriting Chinakpradhan (talk) 09:17, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

see the valuable images once @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 12:41, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
✓ Done, nominated all but one of their uploads for deletion. See Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Xpenz. Huntster (t @ c) 18:11, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I have a program at home that converts and can remove audio all at once; I've gotten two of the four videos done so far, it just takes a while since it relies on my PC to convert; that 1 gig file took about 10 hours to convert, but it's worth it because they're in highest quality and resolution. I'll get you the software name when I'm back home. Huntster (t @ c) 13:39, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok no problem take your time Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:01, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Oh they turned out invaluable Chinakpradhan (talk) 18:17, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

I suppose I should ask why you are uploading images like File:Scott Poteet.png. Where in the YouTube video or its description page is it ever mentioned that it is licensed under Creative Commons? Huntster (t @ c) 18:54, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

It was my fault. I thought it's creative Commons. Later after you told me of the nomination, I was going to add nomination for speedy deletion after completing my work on ASDS enwiki page updating it after today's starlink 3-1 launch. And FYI, I just nominated it for speedy deletion @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:00, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

No worries, it's taken care of. Yeah, when looking for useful material on YouTube, there should be a copyright statement at the bottom of the description that says "Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)", for example at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2S5Ov-7Mzo. You may have to click the "Show More" to see it, though. Those videos use the template {{YouTube CC-BY}}. Huntster (t @ c) 19:16, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok will mind it @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:20, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

fun fact @Huntster what a flaw in en:Autonomous spaceport drone ship page i discovered. i salute the spirit of wikipedians that edited this page before i joined english wikipedia. comparing with our statistics table, i found they forgot to add the en:Telstar 18V to the vessels section. And we followed and built onto this mistake for 3 years, 10 months and 3 days. thanks i rectified it it by edits. Chinakpradhan (talk) 11:43, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
Good catch. Huntster (t @ c) 13:03, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
isnt it from jpl facility want to use it @HuntsterChinakpradhan (talk) 09:38, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
No, because there is no evidence the photograph was taken as part of her job. That's the key for U.S. Gov public domain: a person may work for the government, but if the image or document was not produced as part of their regular duties then it is not automatically public domain. Huntster (t @ c) 13:21, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

File:Perseverance Sample Tubes.png see this once and the impeding https://twitter.com/LiveFromJezero/status/1547574067951087620?s=20&t=kPeyl1lkSlNPHyG5dAl2xg @Huntster I thank my luck I am getting positive response for creative Commons usage of non government images. I pray I get one for that ascent vehicle too. Chinakpradhan (talk) 17:41, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Just make sure when you are asking for permission that they specifically agree to Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (or whatever license you choose). The person simply stating "Yes, you have permission" isn't a license we can use. Huntster (t @ c) 18:26, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:20, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Oh, almost forgot. The software I used to convert a couple of the files is called "Avidemux". Not easiest thing to use, but effective and produces good results, you just have to play around with settings to produce the best output. Additionally, the website https://ssyoutube.com/en1/ worked really well for the videos I could pull from YouTube, because it allowed access to ready-made WebM versions with the audio already removed. Huntster (t @ c) 05:28, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
is it save from viruses@Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 05:42, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
i got virus notifications when i was downloading the other software so stopped Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:03, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
What, Avidemux? No, it's a well-respected program. If you download it from that Sourceforge link, it's legit and your antivirus is giving a false positive. I have three different AV/AM programs, and none have ever triggered on it. Huntster (t @ c) 06:09, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
no, i meant this https://ssyoutube.com/en1/ and i have no antivirus software in my pc. Avidemux is working nicely @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:10, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
If you don't feel comfortable using it then don't worry about it. I've not seen any indication it's problematic, but anything is possible. Huntster (t @ c) 06:14, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
i clicked at windows icon below "Tired of looking for the perfect software to download videos or music online? We have a FREE solution for you! The Ssyoutube video downloader allows you to download videos or music with just one click!" but i think that was wrong thing to click i had to just use the box asking me to passte youtube link. it now working @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:14, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
thanks for both of them Chinakpradhan (talk) 06:19, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
i did a test if its suitable for commons so i made File:Orion's distant Retrograde orbit.webm @Huntster and it worked out. see there are two versions in same file at file history the earlier version is using https://ssyoutube.com/en1/ and the current version is that software to make mp4 then some fixing like op9 , vorbis, webm muxer and 48kHz to convert it to webm. hope i did the write!! Chinakpradhan (talk) 07:27, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes, seems to work fine. Remember to double check the resolution, though. When you got the file through ssyoutube it was in 1920x1080 resolution, but when converting manually the resolution was only set to 1280x720.
Both definitely have their pros and cons. ssyoutube makes it very simple and automatically provides webm format, but forcibly removes the audio. avidemux is much more resource intensive, but ultimately gives you control of the outcome. Just have to decide which is right for a particular project. Huntster (t @ c) 14:15, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Ok Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:21, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

File:Logo of Roscosmos 2022.svg looks q bit problematic this is the logo of roscosmos tv not roscosmos and all wiki cites it as roscosmos logo @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 15:24, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

I've switched the logo on en.wiki, and I've (unfortunately) nominated it for deletion for discussion, since there's no evidence the official logo has been released under any kind of free license, much like the mission patches.
Interesting news, though, about Rogozin being removed as head of Roscosmos. Huntster (t @ c) 16:26, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Ya and the crew swap system is approved Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:35, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Thanks you Huntster for the logo solution Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:37, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

As per the news, rogozin is going to achieve a high post in donbas as per anatoly zak who says rogozin considered roscosmos head post as a inferior post of his personality Chinakpradhan (talk) 01:39, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

It means anna kikina and andrei fedyeav is comming for dragon and lara o hara and Francisco rubio for soyuzChinakpradhan (talk) 01:46, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

this confirms my msr patch was nasa made not esa made as here is a better look for the confirmation of my treasure hunt found logo of msr being in the top right corner of the image besides the non frame logo on the identity card of al chen. If it was esa made I would have to delete it @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 02:44, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Wonder when Rogozin will be taking that post. It's a rather dangerous place. Huntster (t @ c) 03:27, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

Should I unfollow Rogozin from telegram and twitter as I don't think any space related news from him now @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 03:30, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

It's ultimately up to you whether you want to unfollow or not, but I suspect you are right that his focus will be entirely elsewhere; most likely of a more political nature. Huntster (t @ c) 06:16, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
ya good thought i am fed up everyday in telegram i see 100s of his unncecessary posts Chinakpradhan (talk) 07:54, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
sadly no social media account of Yuri Borisov to know his mind. will see if he makes in future but right now bye bye rogozin @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 07:58, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
https://www.roscosmos.ru/ is online for non russians again @Huntster Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:10, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
and yhere the logo of roscosmos https://www.roscosmos.ru/im/logo_roscosmos_2022.png Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:13, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
sad its as we know is non free Chinakpradhan (talk) 04:15, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
It appears the opening of the Roscosmos website is selective, perhaps only to certain countries, because it still doesn't work for me. Not that I'm surprised... Huntster (t @ c) 13:22, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
