Still active

Hi Simon. I'm still active and I'm here to help. :-) What do you need the help with? - Jynto (talk) 01:27, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

@Jynto: Hello Jynto, thanks for your answer. I wanted to ask, if you still create 3D images (ball and stick models) of chemical structures? Until yesterday, I was not familiar with creating 3D structures on my own, but I tried to start working with Discovery Studio Visualizer 2019 and I have to say that I - how I think - am now able to create some good looking 3D images, too. First I wanted to ask you about creating a certain structure for me (because I needed one for an article on then English Wikipedia), but here is the result of my own trying: File:2-Ethyl-1-butanol 3D ball.png. Maybe you can take a look at it and tell me, what I can make better to improve it or is my structure already good enough to use in articles in the various wikipedia project? Best regards from Germany, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 18:23, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Hm .. this one is trickier because File:Industrielle Synthese von Ethylamin.svg uses a German abbreviation (Kat.) instead of an international label for the catalyst as in File:Hydroaminierung von Ethanol mit Ammoniak zu Ethylamin und Wasser.svg. Also, File:Hydroaminierung von Ethanol mit Ammoniak zu Ethylamin und Wasser.svg is more compact, with larger font and smaller spaces between reagents - I like it much better actually. Materialscientist (talk) 22:11, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello Materialscientist, yes, you are right. The problem is, that the old file displays a wrong catalyst. The catalyst is actually a lot more complex. That's why I just have written "Kat." above the reaction arrow. The correct naming of the full catalyst is then explain in the respective Wikipedia project. I hope you can understand my opinion and delete the file. Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 05:17, 17 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Chem Sim 2001, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Hallo,

Viele Grüße, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 12:06, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Isopropylamine

Hi Chem Sim,

I see you uploaded both File:Structural formula of isopropylamine.svg and File:Strukturformel von Isopropylamin.svg. They look the same except for slight margin differences. Should one of them be deleted? DMacks (talk) 04:19, 8 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello DMacks, yes, that´s correct. File:Strukturformel von Isopropylamin.svg is outdated, unused and superseded by File:Structural formula of isopropylamine.svg. I am going to create a deletion request, soon. Regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 11:44, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
@DMacks: The old file was deleted now! Regards, Chem Sim 2001 (talk) 12:37, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

trans-Crotonaldehyde

Similar to the #Isopropylamine, should File:Strukturformel von (E)-Crotonaldehyd.svg be deleted as replaceable by File:Structural formula of trans-crotonaldehyde.svg? The comment I left at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Trans-crotonaldehyde structure.svg can save us all a lot of work. DMacks (talk) 09:06, 28 May 2019 (UTC)

Hello DMacks, first of all: Thanks for your support with the DR of File:Trans-crotonaldehyde structure.svg. That structure is very old and outdated. There are also strange gaps between the kinks of the carbon chain. I replaced it with File:Structural formula of trans-crotonaldehyde.svg. File:Strukturformel von (E)-Crotonaldehyd.svg is an old version of File:Structural formula of trans-crotonaldehyde.svg. I will take care of it being deleted. Commons file transfer

Hi, Simon. Could you help me transfer files from Esperanto Wikipedia to Commons? A great embrace for you Claudio Pistilli (talk) 19:54, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Hi Claudio Pistilli, personally I don't know how to transfer files from a Wikiproject to Commons! But, as you might know, your files often don't provide a good quality for Commons. This should be no insult against you nor your work. Maybe the manual of style (when it comes to chemical structure drawing) is another on Esperanto Wikipedia as it is on Commons! Hope you can understand me! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 20:15, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Sorry. A great hug for you. Claudio Pistilli (talk) 20:20, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
@Claudio Pistilli: For example your file File:Anisylnitrile.png is a chemical drawing with poor quality: All of the bond lines are blurred and the text font is very weird. Furthermore, you always use those colours which are useless and are against the Wikimedia Commons MoS drawing style (e.g. on German Wikipedia, such files as you provide are not allowed to choose for thew infobox). In my opinion, you should try to improve the quality of your files by using a serious drawing program such as ChemDoodle, ChemDraw or BKchem. Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 20:33, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank you, I will keep your remarks as incentives for me to improve Claudio Pistilli (talk) 20:36, 11 July 2019 (UTC)
@Claudio Pistilli: Thanks for your understanding. Wish you a nice evening! Good night, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 20:37, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

Bitte diesen Abschnitt beachten. --Leyo 20:39, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Viele Grüße, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 20:45, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

removing of vva

in Special:Diff/360107677 you removed {{Vva}} to File:(S)-Citronellal_Structural_Formula_V.1_1.svg. What's the reason, it seems to me that the SVG shows the same molecule? Therefore I would keep it, but it is up on you.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 15:48, 12 August 2019 (UTC)

Hello JoKalliauer, actually not, File:(S)-Citronellal Structural Formula V.1 1.svg is no the same chemical structure which is depicted in File:(R)-Citronellal Structural Formula V.1 Kopie.png. They are two enantiomers (they have the same chemical formula but different alignment of atoms or atom groups). I have added a new {{Vva}} with the correct file! Best regards, Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 17:14, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, my mistake. I thought the place where it is thicker is in the front, but I now read de:Keilstrichformel, it is not the side of thicknes, but it is the solid or doted wedge, which decides front or back. Thanks for clarifying.  — Johannes Kalliauer - Talk | Contributions 17:24, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
No problem, sometimes it's hard to see such details in graphics if you are not familiar with the topic! Best regards from Bavaria (Germany). Chem Sim 2001 (disc) 17:31, 12 August 2019 (UTC)
