Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

STOP[edit]
Stop uploading photographs you didn't create under your name claiming own work. State the source! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:24, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Charis888: Hmm, this suggests that you may be breaking this rule. Ankry (talk) 01:04, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Ankry: It's not a rule violation because I'm not writing on behalf of a business interest / not asking that negative press be suppressed, etc... I am just documenting a historic landmark on behalf of previous owners.

- It may be paid contribution problem. I do not say, it is: just take it into account if you say "hired".
- Here is another problem: if you are NOT the original author of the photos, you are required to provide either:
- the original author (or their heirs) written free-license permission via COM:OTRS, or
- a proof that the copyright already expired (genaraly based on initial publication date)
- It is already being explained to you in COM:UDR.
- Ownership of photo prints is irrelevant for copyright. Ownership of the negatives may be taken into account, but only if the photos were published in some countries and already PD there.
- "Own work" means purely own work (authorship) of the uploader. And it is copyright violation claiming "owm" to somebody else's work (moral rights are not transferreble). Ankry (talk) 08:29, 28 January 2017 (UTC)
