Australian english chart[edit]

Thanks for uploading the Australian english IPA chart. I'm wondering where you derived these answers from. I agree with where you have placed almost all of the vowels, but I'm wondering why you decided to place the "ɶ" so close to where the "a" normally is. I think of "ɶ" as being closer to "ɛ", almost halfway between "a" and "e". Is it just based on your own common sense or some other source. Can you point me towards some other source which describes how IPA sounds are positioned in the trapezoid, particularly between "e" and "a"? Thanks. Quoting my Wikipedia talk page (I thought this common account thing I have going was meant to make this page a redir to there, but never mind...)
As for sources, I'm surprised it isn't explicitly mentioned anywhere what the source is. They're adapted from images adapted from Cox (1996) in [1] and [2]. I'm sorry but I can't remember how much I consulted the original Cox (1996), but it was largely based on distorting those images in the Gimp until the trapezium was approximately overlayed on the Wikipedia style trapezium, plus a little interpretation. Obviously the inclusion of /i:/ on the diphthong chart is something I did myself based on other sources in the article. I'm really sorry I didn't mention that in the articles, someone should've hit me for that long ago.
I assume you're referring to /æ/, not /ɶ/ (which is not a sound of English—or almost any language at all!).

Hello, Cassowary!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
