Thanks for uploading File:EU Memberstates.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Scottish Election 2016 Map[edit]

Hello!

Thank you for the blank map for the Scottish Election 2016 you based on my previous election maps! It is a good placeholder design.

I actually had a blank map saved as an .ai file on my computer so when I checked the page I thought "The heck? Did I upload it?".

When the election comes, as I have the .ai file on standby for my computer I could do the honours or filling out the constituencies and the Alt.Vote members with their respective colours when the time comes.

If you are looking to create something for the page on the election you could possibly do the parliament layout chart based on party allocation.

Thank you!

- Dr. Random Factor, Ph.D

Hi,

Please do not upload radically different images over existing files like you did with the Welsh Assembly map. See Commons:Overwriting existing files for more info. You are free to upload the second map to a different location.

Be aware of attribution requirements as well - the final map is your own work, but is clearly derived from the original (by myself) and attribution to the author of the original is important.--Nilfanion (talk) 17:21, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Brexit map suggestion[edit]

Hey Brythones, thank you for your work with the brexit map! I would like to suggest to revert the color scale from yellow-blue to green-red as you had it some versions before. It makes more sense and is more readable. As it is now, the two poles of the scale are almost not distinguishable from each other. Cheers --176.92.200.215 23:17, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

EU referendum maps for regions[edit]

Note that I've reverted all of these uploads. Per COM:OVERWRITE a substantially different file should be uploaded to a different location - a radical change to the colours is substantial.

I'd point out the colours are unacceptable without more substantial tweaks - both the leave and remain colours clash with colours used elsewhere on the map, but on basis of previous discussion you are likely to ignore me. However, if you change the maps on the result page to the versions uploaded last night I will revert that - as those files are unacceptable as-is.--Nilfanion (talk) 08:41, 26 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The files are not stale - they are in use on multiple projects.
As for their limitations: Look at your London map as a thumbnail. You can't tell where the (weak remain of) outer London stops and the surrounding districts begin. That's a major problem as you can't actually see London! That's in contrast to the two-colour maps, which are both perfectly legible and totally acceptable (which is why the BBC use it). The fact a more graduated map can show more (and I agree it certainly does that, and is more valuable as a result) doesn't make the more basic map unacceptable. The very fact that a graduated map shows a different thing is why the basic results map shouldn't be overwritten
As a side comment, they should correctly attribute the authors (see the national map for a correct approach).--Nilfanion (talk) 21:29, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New results map with both local and regional maps on same image!![edit]

Why can't we produce a map which is similar to the above shown with the local authority area results on the left and the regional results on the right from the EU referendum so we have a image with both maps. It would work brilliantly the Map above which is from 2016 Welsh assembly election is a great demonstration of how to bring both maps together. NI maps[edit]

Hi Brythones. Just wanted to try and persuade you to keep my new constituency maps ;)

The main point is that the old maps are out of date, e.g. Foyle constituency was about halved in size in 2010.

On colour, I figured tan and green would be less garish than reds, and more inline with most maps on Wikipedia. I appreciate it's inconsistent, but there are no pages where the maps are shown alongside those of GB constituencies and in any case I figured I might start a trend...

Nonetheless, as you own this as much as I do, I'll offer to make new versions with the old colours if you let me keep the correct boundaries.

All the best

Scottish Council election maps[edit]

I have reverted your changes to the Dundee election maps, I do not feel the shading for the largest party for the entire ward is appropriate, the stripes give a more actuate reflection of the results and is used in the corresponding English local election maps where the are multi-candidate wards. I do plan on updating all the articles when I have the appropriate free time. --Barryob (talk) 08:38, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Brythones: & @Barryob: , do not switch files between the two styles. Both versions of File:Dundee City Council election, 2007.svg and File:City of Edinburgh Council election 2017.svg are acceptable, in both cases the original style should be at that location (so stripes for Dundee and boxes for Edinburgh). The other version should be placed at a different file location. The choice of boxes or stripes is an editorial decision, which needs a consensus on Wikipedia - which you won't get by edit-warring on Commons.--Nilfanion (talk) 09:33, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did not mean to edit war, I was just updating the image to the file name that was used for all previous elections, I will upload future ones to new file names, there has been a consensus for years tho however on the shading of multi member wardsBarryob (talk) 16:04, 15 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, looking at your map for the Argyll & Bute 2017 election, it appears you've given Helensburgh Central 2 Conservative councillors instead of 2 Lib Dems:

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Correction request in File:The British Empire.png[edit]

Hello.

Great Britain and Northern Ireland are not mere British territories, like a British Overseas Territory or Crown Dependency, they constitute the United Kingdom of Great Britain as a whole.

In File:The British Empire.png, the United Kingdom has been forgotten alltogether, and it appears as just "Great Britain" and Northern Ireland is shown like a separate unit (like a British Overseas Territory or Crown Dependency). Both Great Britain (which is a geographical designation for the island of Britain nowadays, except in some international sporting events) and Northern Ireland need to be fused under the title of United Kingdom and shown as part of one country, because the United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is one country under inernational law. Can you rectify this please?

Thank you.

Hello.
Would you express your opinions and recommendations about the two versions of File:The_British_Empire.png, because this has become a dispute with User:Wiki-Ed who is disputing the broad definition with you and with me, and has put it in Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Blocks and protections#Full protection for File:The British Empire.png under the section "Full protection for File:The British Empire.png"
Thank you.
Maphobbyist (talk) 00:21, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello.
I have uploaded a new map with a firmly established title and summary, and is backed up by links, so that it cannot be narrowed down like File:The British Empire.png on which it is based. The new File:The British Empire (including Crown Dependencies, Crown Colonies-Overseas Territories, Protectorates, Military Administrations).png is based on the broad definition of the "British Empire" and includes Crown Dependencies, Crown Colonies, British Protectorates, British Mandates and British Military Administrations. I hope this user does not contest this map. Please feel free to edit, if there are missing areas and corrections need to be made, with verifiable sources and links, so it is not contested and narrowed down.
I also put this in the Administrators' noticeboard page.
Kindest regards, Maphobbyist (talk) 21:07, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my English. If you like to change drastically the File:Commonwealth realms map.svg, please change the legends in every language in every edition of Wikipedia: I noticed this image because, reading it:Reame del Commonwealth (I'm Italian), I noticed the description of the the red-brown areas removed from the map. --Skyfall (talk) 08:40, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Ayr constituency declaration 2016.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

General election electoral boundaries.[edit]

I'm aware of your great skill in creating election maps with the constituencies inside of them coloured in with the party colours. I was keen to know what software you use and how specifically you create the maps with high resolution and detail. If you use InkScape, what version and do you draw the boundaries with Bezier lines or freehand? If you know of any tutorials that go through this I'd very much appreciate it. Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by MarioBayo (talk • contribs) 20:47, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
