Bison bison vs. Bison bonasus[edit]

WRT this: Are you sure? The author of the photo explicitly titled it as "Bison bison bison" with a description "Американский степной бизон" (American plains bison). As far as I know, there are a couple of American bisons kept at Prioksky reserve, cf. File:Bison bison bison.jpg. (I honestly cannot make the difference between them.) 176.59.43.32 17:35, 14 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see. I was probably wrong. It can be difficult to differentiate between the two species, especially with a juvenile animal such as this one. It does seem like this was taken in the same location as the other photo you linked - so unless they're kept in a mixed-species enclosure, it's probably an American bison as well. I'll revert my edit. Boylarva99 (talk) 15:47, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Could you also take a look at File:Бизон в Приокско-террасном заповеднике.jpg? The uploader (Insider) labelled it as "Бизон", which in Russian would generally refer to the American bison (the European bison is usually called "Зубр"/"Zubr"), but possibly it was intended to stand for the genus Бизон. Anyway, later it was assigned Bison bonasus category, but at sv:Prioksko-Terrasnys avelsstation it is labelled as "Hybridvisent"... I have no idea what was meant by that, Category:Bison bonasus bonasus × Bison bonasus caucasicus or Category:Bison bison × Bison bonasus?.. 188.123.231.190 22:23, 16 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Since I don't believe the two species are allowed to hybridise at the station, I think by "hybridvisent" they mean an animal from the Lowland-Caucasian breeding line. Though I have no idea how the editor at Swedish Wikipedia determined it was an animal from that line. Boylarva99 (talk) 16:11, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mirny Zoo[edit]

Hi! Could you please check if I assigned correct species categories in Category:Mammals in Mirny Zoo? Also, there are still a lot of cervids in Category:Mirny Zoo, but they just baffle me... -- 176.59.41.131 13:27, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You got them right, I'll assign the rest myself. Boylarva99 (talk) 23:43, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! 176.59.57.147 21:38, 25 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sheep[edit]

Hi, yo have put these photo in category cameroon sheep. Are you shure that it is such one? --Pedalito (talk) 14:54, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not really sure why I did that, it must have been an accident. I moved it to the unidentified sheep category for now. Boylarva99 (talk) 17:56, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cat[edit]

it should be Category:Animals in Hong Kong Wetland Park like other Category:Animals by zoo. i can fix it shortly. RZuo (talk) 12:56, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Goats[edit]

Hi Boylarva99, do you know what kind of goats these are? They are not tame and just live in the Netherlands, in the dunes. See: here. If you have a specific name, I will rename it, there is also a typo in it. Thanks in advance, regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 13:48, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I believe these are sheep, not goats. Unfortunately, I am not well versed in sheep breeds, so I cannot say what kind of sheep they are. Boylarva99 (talk) 13:52, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Really? Oh, thanks, lol. I thought about sheep for a short time, but thanks for the answer! - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 13:55, 18 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seal ID[edit]

Hi Boylarva - are you sure on this edit? Bit unusual (though not unknown to me!) for an USFWS staff photographer to get an ID wrong. If yes, it needs to be renamed, and also removed from the various pages it is used on. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 18:39, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! While it's possible I'm mistaken, I am reasonably sure that is a grey seal. I think it is probably a juvenile, so the differences are more subtle (adult male grey seals have very distinctive "Roman noses"). The proportions of the head suggest grey seal, as the snout is quite long and turned slightly downwards, and the eyes are spaced farther back on the head compared to harbor seals. The nose is also a clue, with the space between the nostrils being wider. For comparison, see File:Grey seal animal halichoerus grypus.jpg (grey seal) and File:Seal pup cute marine mammal.jpg (harbor seal). Boylarva99 (talk) 20:44, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'm happy with Grey Seal, I'll rename it - MPF (talk) 09:25, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Nobu Tamura[edit]

Hi, I just saw you changed a category on many of NT's images, did you somehow do it in an automated way? Would it be possible for you to add the creator template of his that I added to this[1] image? FunkMonk (talk) 23:24, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, sorry about that. At first I was confused because many of the images were uploaded by "ArthurWeasley", not realizing that was an old username of Tamura's. I will try to add the template to as many as I can, though that may take a while. There may be some automated way of doing this, but I would prefer to go through them individually to see that they're properly categorized as well. Boylarva99 (talk) 06:22, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, it was a bit confusing when he changed his name unannounced, and some of his images have even been nominated for deletion as a result. I would add the template automatically myself if I knew how, but if you're going through the images anyway, yeah, would be nice if you had a look. This script could apparently help with automation, in case:[2] FunkMonk (talk) 09:31, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

caribou[edit]

Curious about this edit [3], specifically what indicated to you that they are both males? --Beeblebrox (talk) 19:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know about the one in the back, but the one in front appears to have a penis sheath dangling between the legs, lol. Boylarva99 (talk) 15:39, 15 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File move[edit]

Hello, you asked for this file rename, can you elaborate why? the give reason (obvious error) is definitely not right. Thank you Poco a poco (talk) 18:38, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The file name says it was taken in Botswana, but you later edited the description to say it was taken in South Africa. Was this incorrect? Boylarva99 (talk) 10:48, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but it was NOT me who for a reason I cannot understand, believed that I took the shot in South Africa and changed categories and description. That was indeed misleading but an example of wrong collective work. You can check the history. Poco a poco (talk) 08:12, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. My bad. Boylarva99 (talk) 10:14, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

Hello Boylarva99, you are asking rename here [4]. I know nothing about the subject. However when I look at pictures on the internet the bird you indicate seems to be orange. To me it seems a wrong rename. Could you please have a second look and add an explanation to the request. Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 18:13, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I have made a new rename request with additional explanation. Boylarva99 (talk) 12:04, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop[edit]

Okay you have to stop now: In this edit you moved "mammals" to "horses" trusting the subcat Category:Horse-drawn trams in Lisbon to be properly named, but it’s not: Often mules were used, not horses, and this problem affect most categories under Category:Horse-drawn trams and should be addressed there — it’s not your fault.

However, the removal of the other five unrelated categories is completely unwarranted and makes me think you’re either very careless or very misguided, and is ground to suspend your filemoving rights.

Dot not change nature reserve categorization in Germany[edit]

You changes the categorization of some nature reserves in Germany. These categories where categorized with a concept and your changes are not conform with that concept. Commons:WikiProject protected areas/Germany We planning to add a warning template on these pages, that changes should be done careful. GPSLeo (talk) 13:30, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Crustacea of African mangroves, etc.[edit]

You feel that is not a meaningful category? I thought it was well-defined. Now those animals even disappear from Category:Animals of African mangroves without any warning. What else do you want to change? JMK (talk) 23:15, 15 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I felt it was a bit overly broad. But if you think it is a useful category, feel free to undo my edits. Boylarva99 (talk) 12:18, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I appreciate your reply. Will think it over, and may revert. Sorting animals under biomes must not be overdone, but I feel that mangroves and their fauna are one of the main biome types, like rainforests, deserts, etc., so students may find some benefit when searching these. "Own work"[edit]

The use of {{Own work}} is not mandatory, and I for one choose not to use it because of the tendency for derivative works such as crops to end up misattributed to the person who did the crop, etc. Nothing against your other edits here, but please don't make that edit on someone else's upload if the existing source info is also accurate. - Jmabel ! talk 14:26, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

hmetvbveetvmmmmmmm crabeater ssssea[edit]

I noticed in my recent upload that will likely also get taken down, that you can't pick any "NoDerivatives" license as an option when uploading. Does this have any connections to the reason why you nominated the file for deletion? ------sfd

fjrve Troopersho (talk) 04:18, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is correct. Non-derivative licenses are not allowed on Commons. See Commons:Licensing for more information. Boylarva99 (talk) 09:36, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Leiothrichidae[edit]

Hi Boylarva99 - thanks for all the updates in this family, but you've also deleted some important information: please leave in the Geogroup tags, Wikispecies links, the VN table, the SN table if present, and the IOC reference link. These are all needed for various purposes. Please restore these links where you have removed them. Also, at wikidata, please keep the label orthography exactly as in the IOC names for each language; they should not be lowercased, when the source references (IOC, and also IUCN, etc.) do not lowercase them (as per the wikidata guidelines "Labels begin with a lowercase letter except for when uppercase is normally required or expected" (my emphasis; uppercase is expected, and required, for formal vernacular names in several languages, including English, Dutch, and Danish among others). Thanks! - MPF (talk) 00:27, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]
