Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Replacing existing photos

Thanks for all the new photos, they're really helping fill in the gaps in Illinois. When you upload a new photo of a building that Commons already has a picture of, could you please make sure that you use a new name for your photo instead of overwriting the existing one? The existing picture may be of use too, and it's better to have multiple photos of a building than to overwrite existing photos. TheCatalyst31 (talk) 16:15, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Please take another look at File:Image_Wenner_House.jpeg. That isn't the Wenner house, based on the photo at Indiana historical database, http://gis.hpa.state.il.us/hargis/Reports/PropertyInformationReport.aspx?refnum=201472

This one does seem to be the right one: File:Wenner House in autumn.jpg. That one is from 2006, yours is more recent, but the 2006 photo shows the house was in better shape than the 1984 nomination document reported. Maybe this is just a file name issue, do you know what yours is of, or where is was taken? Thanks. Generic1139 (talk) 04:59, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Gannett House, Augusta

Hi, the photo you uploaded as the Guy Gannett House in Augusta is actually a picture of the Blaine House (the Maine Governor's official residence). The Gannett House is next door (to the north). Magic♪piano 14:38, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Iowa photos

Thanks for all of your photos from Iowa. I removed several photos from Des Moines for copyright violations (not yours) on the National Register of Historic Places listing for Polk County. If you find yourself in Des Moines there are several places that had photos that no longer do, so whatever you can contribute would be appreciated.

Also, your Fairfield photo of the R. Bruce and May W. Louden House is not the right house. The historic house is located on the northwest corner of W. Adams Ave. and S. 5th St. It's a two-story, frame, Colonial Revival seen here. I would appreciate it if you could replace it the next time you're in Fairfield.

I discovered that the photo of the Wells-Stubbs House is also the wrong building. It is the frame Italianate house next door to the east, seen here. Farragutful (talk) 01:21, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for replacing those two photos. I discovered last year that I photographed the wrong building four or five times in Davenport, and had to replace the photos. A couple of them were so obvious I cannot figure out how I got it wrong. Anyway, good work. Farragutful (talk) 15:10, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

I was doing some work in Clayton County, Iowa on Wikipedia and found that your photo of the Eckert House does not show the correct building. Assuming it is still standing, it is a two story brick commercial-style building shown here. Why they called it a house I cannot say. If you're not going to be in Guttenberg anytime soon, you might consider renaming the photo or having it deleted. I've removed the NRHP information. Farragutful (talk) 21:22, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

I see you took some more excellent photos of Clayton County. I noticed your photo File:Peter Stauer House.jpg is not of that house, but your photo File:The Peter Stauer House.jpg is the correct house. Could the former photo be of the Rialto Price House in Elkader? It looks like the NRHP photo, but it seems to have a larger porch now. Also, do you have a photo of St. Joseph Church in Elkader? Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States during the month of October! The United States contest saw over 1,700 people contribute over 11,000 great photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the United States and its territories. In addition to National Register of Historic Places sites, we welcomed uploads of sites designated by state- and local-level historical institutions and societies. Hundreds of these photos are already being used to illustrate Wikipedia articles!

We're excited to announce that our national judging process has concluded, and that we have selected the winners of Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 in the United States! We were amazed by all of the uploads, and regret having to narrow it down to just 10. That being said – congratulations to our national winners and their amazing shots! Our 10 winners will be sent to the international Wiki Loves Monuments jury, who will then select the winners of the international contest. If you're interested in seeing the winners of the other various national contests as they are announced, you may do so at Wiki Loves Monuments 2016 winners.

Finally, we have also created a feedback form for all participants in the United States to fill out. The survey is optional and anonymous, and only takes a minute or two – we hope to use the feedback to organize better events in the future!

Henry County, Iowa

I have moved on to Henry County and found another incorrect photo. The Collins-Bond House is a two story brick structure across the street from the Lewelling Quaker Museum. (This is your photo.) Unfortunately, the listing is still too recent for the National Register to have a photo of the house on their site, otherwise I would have directed you to it.

Henry County also has a couple of bridges on the National Register. When writing the article for the Fish Creek Bridge near Salem I learned the bridge has been moved to Oakland Mills Park, southwest of Mount Pleasant. It's a small truss bridge, but I'm not sure where it's located in the park. The Oakland Mills Bridge is also located in the park, over the Skunk River. It's a large structure and kind of hard to miss. I'm going to be in Iowa next month, but I doubt I'll get to Henry County. If you have the time when you're in that area I would appreciate it if you could look into these requests. Farragutful (talk) 16:52, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

George Dyas House

Regretfully, your photograph of the George Dyas House is incorrect. The house is a stone Gothic Revival with steeper gables and taller windows as seen here. Google maps shows that it still exists. It is not far to the west of the Dyas Hexagonal Barn which you photographed earlier this year. The coordinates in the infobox on the Wikipedia article are basically correct. I've removed the NRHP info from the photograph so someone doesn't post it. I also checked the other Jackson County NRHP properties in case it was misnamed and it doesn't match any of them. I see you've been photographing in several counties in northeast Iowa, is it a property in one of those other counties? Just a thought. Farragutful (talk) 02:56, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi there! My name is Kevin, one of the organizers of Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States. Last year, you contributed to our 2016 event. These photos are recognized for their photographic quality, artistic merit, and their encyclopedic value as illustrations of unique historical sites. Town Clock

Thanks for all of your recent photos from the Dubuque area. Unfortunately, the Town Clock in Dubuque is not on the National Register. The building on which it was originally located (823-25 Main St.) is. To make it more confusing its called the Town Clock building, but the clock, as you know, is in the middle of Main Street. If you're no longer in town, I might be in Dubuque in August so I might be able to get it then. I was there a couple of years ago, but I didn't realize the difference myself. September 30th is the last day to upload photos for Wiki Loves Monuments! We're thrilled that the United States has almost reached 4,000 contributions so far this year. Of these images, ~370 (~9%) have already been used to help illustrate Wikipedia articles and pages on other wiki projects, which is fantastic.

If you've already made a photo contribution this year, thanks so much! If you have any last-minute photos of U.S. historical sites to upload and enter into the contest, today's the day to do it. You are receiving this message as a participant in last year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the United States. First, a recap: We concluded with over 5,200 great photos of U.S. historical sites made possible by contributors like you. If you haven't yet seen, last year's U.S. winners are viewable here, and the international winners here (including multiple from the United States!).

Second, as you may have seen from the banner notices on Wikipedia, this year's Wiki Loves Monuments 2020 in the United States has been running through October instead of September in consideration of the pandemic and the hectic start of the fall season. Despite the challenges of the year, we're thrilled that the United States has surpassed 5,000 photo contributions so far.

October 31st is the last day to upload photos for the U.S. competition this year. If you've already contributed, thank you so much - and it's great to have you again this year! If you haven't yet contributed but are interested in participating again, you're invited to join us during these last couple days. Check out the United States event page for more information. Remember that you are welcome to upload and submit photos of historic sites that you've taken any time in the past, not just this month.
