If you wish the pictures you have uploaded not to be used in Wikipedia articles, you will have to get them removed entirely from here. Check out the Help center (link to the left) on how to go about doing so. Thank you and have a nice day. --Ebyabe (talk) 14:48, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I opened this on your behalf as a courtesy. – czar 17:55, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much - CZAR - for your assistance in this matter, which has become very frustrating for me to deal with, alone. For fear of enmeshing myself in any more trouble or making further problems for myself, due to my admitted ignorance of the proper ways of using whatever facilities there are at my disposal, here, I'd be grateful for all the help you can give me to get this issue resolved in my favor. I've attempted to reason with the current poster of the pictures, Thibaut120094, who is presently ignoring me and my request. My messages are viewable on his "talk" page. Do you think it would be wise to copy and paste them under your Wikimedia Commons message with that explanation? Once again thank you so very much for being in my corner regarding my concerns. Blythe Spirit (talk) 04:16, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I had already linked Thibaut's page from the deletion request (link #1), so I think that's fine. I wouldn't engage with Thibaut any more about it. The issue is really whether or not you can revoke your license, and that has to do with Commons (this site) not Wikipedia. Wikipedia will continue to do what's best for the encyclopedia, which is to show images when available. Uploaders can't revoke licenses, especially once confirmed (I think the license text even says this explicitly?), but usually other editors let that strictness slide if the images cause "embarrassment" (see the guideline). Do feel free to explain your rationale on that deletion discussion page I linked above. Other editors will review the case and decide what to do in accordance with site policy. – czar 04:33, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, again, for your help, CZAR. I'm at a complete loss as to what else to do, myself, that wouldn't be redundant and possibly antagonistic at this point. Should I respond in any way to your more than adequate and very well composed reason, on the Wikimedia Commons page? If so what do you recommend that would serve to favorably impact a final decision by the proper authorities? Blythe Spirit (talk) 04:41, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Most people who will stop by the discussion will not read everything you wrote at WP, so it would be useful for you to (very briefly) confirm that you misunderstood and explain in what way the photos are embarrassing to you or the subject (as you mentioned at WP). Keep it a brief summary and refer to the the specific policy/guideline language. Perhaps you could even offer other photos, maybe even just a headshot, as a replacement? Not at all necessary, but a thought. – czar 04:48, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll briefly reiterate what I explained to Thibaut120094. I'll try to encapsulate it effectively. Unfortunately, since the issue -partially- concerns Wikipedia's finding my previous career summary - as it now appears on the IMDb site - unsuitable for their venue, providing any other photo(s) would defeat the purpose. One of the reasons for petitioning for the removal of the images, in question, is that I don't want my photographic work representing someone else's text, especially, the sparse and lackluster entries that presently exist, after my very nice profile was deleted. No offense meant, in regard to your suggestion about a headshot, though... Once again, I truly appreciate all your help, CZAR. Blythe Spirit (talk) 05:06, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, again, CZAR. I don't know if you've been following the threads, on the deletion request page, but I think things are at an impasse with -Hedwig in Washington- issuing a hard-nosed "Speedy keep" on the pics. Another administrator named -ColonialGrid- who won't acknowledge the page is causing me an embarrassment, irrationally recommends that I fix and improve it, after I've explained why I can't add to its content due to not having the requisite references Wikipedia demands. René Bazinet is one of the world's top clowns and is recognized as such throughout Europe. He was not only a clown in Cirque du Soleil's "Saltimbanco" but created (5) separate characters as their *lead* clown in the original production of that show. He has done so much more in his career and my IMDb biography gives a comprehensive summary of it. It's the same article I posted on Wikipedia, initially, but since it was based upon taped interview sessions and contains no verifiable published references, Wikipedia rejected it. Now all that remains is pitiful and somewhat inaccurate, too. It truly -is- an embarrassment to me to have my images associated with it and is causing embarrassment to a great performer, too, who deserves much better than a pathetically incomplete footnote, as a profile. I don't know what else to do and wonder if I can prevail upon you to put in a good word on the deletion page for me. I'm actually distraught, at this, point as these images mean so much to me and I can't comprehend why the two above mentioned Wiki members, won't give me a break. What possible difference could it make to them to delete three pictures, that are no consequence to them, when it's obvious I'm very unhappy about them being used to represent a poorly composed page that's not enhancing Wikipedia's reputation one bit? Thanking you, once more, for all your efforts to assist me. Blythe Spirit (talk) 13:35, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I had recommended keeping it short and to the point of that linked guideline. "Generally, images are not removed simply because the subject does not like them, but administrators are normally sympathetic to removal requests if good reasons can be given." I thought your argument was that the images were embarrassing to you when taken out of context and possibly embarrassing to the subject when presented as a clown out of context? They read your comments as not liking the WP article and their response is to fix the English article, which is a logical response. Once the files are made free, they're free from even the author's objection to their use. They're free to be used in just about any way anyone wants—on Wikipedia or off—as long as they attribute the copyright holder. I recommend making any further statements based not on your objection to their use but on the paragraph I linked—how they are a professional embarrassment in a way that can't be fixed by just fixing the article. Did Bazinet himself prompt your thoughts about these images? That would matter. If the images would in fact be fine if the article was just more robust, you can also provide the page's editors with self-published sources (history of Cirque du Soleil, official websites with more information) that they can use to expand the article. – czar 15:07, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my goodness, my head is spinning and dyslexia is taking its toll. They've all been ganging up on me and I'm befuddled beyond words, right now. I spoke to René, who doesn't even want an article of any kind on Wikipedia, since my excellent career summary was challenged and so I just deleted it to avoid any bad feelings, never expecting that the pictures would be used again to augment someone else's decidedly inferior work. UGH...!!! Can you possibly come to my aid on the deletion request page, again and explain the situation in a way that won't antagonize these guys who clearly don't like me...Please???

I have no special power here. I'm sure they have nothing against you as an individual, though. They're going by policy. The license is clear in that it cannot be revoked. There are sometimes exceptions as courtesies within reason, as I noted above, but the other editors determined that the images are useful, have subsequently been used by others under the free license in the last three years, and that there is no material harm aside from the author not liking the context in which it is being used. So it's within policy to keep them. If it is the context that concerns you, I suggest working with the editors to improve it. In any event, I suggest walking away from the related discussions if they will only upset you. Long posts only come across as rants, especially if they don't convince the other editors why deleting the images is more in line with policy than keeping them. – czar 16:15, 28 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Woo Hoo...!! Wiki member "Voceditenore" constructed and composed a -lovely- article to take the place of the embarrassingly sketchy, inaccurate statements that the page formerly contained, which changes the situation considerably. I no longer object to my images, which I truly didn't realize I'd given away my rights to by uploading, being posted to represent René's page, now. When my original article appeared there the pictures were meant to augment it, but "John of Reading" posted notifications that it lacked the requisite substantiating published references. After conferring with John, about the problem, and trying to work with René, to alleviate it - all to no avail - I decided to simply delete my work on the page, including the images. I didn't press the matter of permanently removing the images, from Wikimedia Commons then, since I didn't anticipate that they'd be used again by anyone. After all René isn't exactly a household name. (smile) Anyway, "all's well that ends well" and I want to thank you for your assistance as well as your moral support. I genuinely appreciate all your help, CZAR... Blythe Spirit (talk) 05:31, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Glad it all worked out – czar 06:31, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
