Please don't move images from categories to articles or the other way round until it has been decided where the images should go. See Commons:Images on normal pages or categories:Vote. I personally are much more in favour for categories. --Chris 73 00:51, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Please tag images[edit]

Thank you for providing images to the commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on the commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:

  • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
  • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another wikipedia user link his local user page.
  • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
  • Add a Copyright tag - images without a appropriate license tag will be deleted.
  • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate Categories, so it can be found by others.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki.


It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more Information, have a look at Commons:Licensing, Commons:criteria for inclusion and the Community Portal. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the village pump. Request for use[edit]

  • Hi, Bernard! I'm thinking of starting a website about genocide with a few of my friends. Do you mind if I use your image 'SkullFromTheFront.JPG' as a temporary logo? We're not going to be using the website for any commercial purposes. I know I can use it under the terms of the GFDL, as long as I cite you as the source, but I'd like to be able to put "used with permission". Nothing's up on the website yet, but I'd love if you would join us - we'll probably start "publishing" this week or the next. Cheers, and thanks for the lovely photograph! Gaurav

Implant picture[edit]

I noticed you've uploaded one or more images and I thought I should turn your attention to a common error.
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used in more than one way. Your account will be renamed[edit]

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Bernard bill5. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Bernard bill5~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
