Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). @Adeletron 3030 :I learned this format from this NBA player's image upload -> File:James Harden.png. Why would that be acceptable but mine are not? BeFriendlyGoodSir (talk) 17:40, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Couple of things:

1. The James Harden pic is sourced to a YouTube video that has a CC license. If you go to the source link, you'll see a line of text that says "Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed)". As far as I can tell (and you can correct me if I'm wrong, the YouTube videos you've linked to are not Creative Commons videos. Those have standard, non-free copyrights.
2. I don't think the Harden pic is acceptable. Although FanDuel releases its content with a CC license, in-game images are from third-party photo agencies, so FanDuel isn't allowed to re-license them.

I'm guessing this isn't what you wanted to hear. You have to make sure the source has an appropriate license, and then make sure that they're not committing license laundering. Let me know if you have more questions. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 18:02, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

The Sam Tallent image belongs to whoever produces the Honey Dew podcast. When someone takes your picture or video, the rights belong to the person creating the image, not the person in the image. I'm guessing the James Sexton photo is his headshot, so he might own the rights to it (or the photographer, it depends). If he does own the rights and is willing to license it freely, you should ask if you can get a high-res JPEG. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 18:08, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Okay. Getting Honey Dew podcast to reply is probably next to impossible... Probably best I email Sam and James directly asking for their own personal photos, have them use the template text to release the rights, and forward the email to permissions-commons? Yeah, I don't think most YouTube channels monitor their comments. It doesn't hurt, though emailing them is probably the better way to go.

And a lot of Commons users have had success going to people or their management and asking for a license-free image. Thanks for your replies. Adeletron 3030 (talk) 22:06, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
