Hello, Arnaud.ramey!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Sorry![edit]

I'm so sorry, I misunderstood what that meant! I thought it meant that you were the one to suggest it be done! I'll be sure to not do that again :) -Matt

Ahahah, no big deal. Everybody does mistakes ! Arnaud Ramey (talk) 11:39, 26 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you![edit]

You do really fantastic work, thank you!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:51, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you take requests?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:50, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliment ! Well, for the request, tell me more about it and we'll see :) Arnaud Ramey (talk) 17:48, 27 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting has a backlog of Scout and Guide emblems that could benefit from vectorization. If you want I can make a short list.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:28, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds alright ! I have to say coats of arms and related are not my specialty, but I can give a shot. I will tackle a few in the shortlist when it is ready to see how I cope with it. Arnaud Ramey (talk) 08:18, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
These would be fair use, only for en:wp, not (most) for Commons, is that okay?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 08:28, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Mmmh, why is it fair use ? Is there some kind of copyright on the Scout emblems ? I thought Commons was OK for fair use images anyway... but I'm really bad in the licencing stuff :) Arnaud Ramey (talk) 11:55, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, logos are out on Commons except under certain circumstances. All Ukraine are ok, any EU country provided the logo is 70 years old, but outside of that, it's touchy. Here is the shortlist, and thank you!en:User:Arnaud.ramey/Scout image requests--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:09, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
OK, some stuff is easy, some is not. I will try to do one a day everyday then ! You will be able to see the progress on the page. Hope everything will go fine ! :) Arnaud Ramey (talk) 13:45, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 16:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step". First one done. Arnaud Ramey (talk) 15:44, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And a great step at that! I left a slight tweak note, I hope that is okay.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 16:25, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done No pb, feedback is welcome. Arnaud Ramey (talk) 16:39, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That next one is beautiful, but it's the wrong emblem, sorry.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 03:36, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Might be a good idea to create the article linking to File:Scouts_Vietnamiens_de_France.svg , as it is considered as an orphaned image and the bots already want its life : [1]. Arnaud Ramey (talk) 13:12, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was working on it, got stopped by work, sorry about that.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:44, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SVG Work in Progress[edit]

Hi regarding Commons:Help_desk/Archives/2010Aug: I have seen the template. It is yourusernamehere. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 15:15, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, added to my useful templates ! :) Arnaud Ramey (talk) 15:29, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, if you know any others missing in my list, you are welcome ! [2] Thanks :) Arnaud Ramey (talk) 16:15, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

C.W.A. Scott signature[edit]

Nice work on the Signature, what program do you use to do that? it looks really good!! I have used it on his Wikipedia page as I think it stands out from the page better than the digitaly cleaned version I made and was using, Brilliant! Cheers Jimmy3d0 (talk) 02:41, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and thanks ! The free, open source software Inkscape is really good at tracing monochrome images, that is made only of two colors black and white.
So, first, you need to transform the original color PNG into a fancy monochrome PNG by applying some thresholds on the color image. I use the open source software GIMP to do so. So, in order :
 1. GIMP
 2. Inkscape
 3. Et voila !

Arms of Saint Kitts & Nevis[edit]

I thank you for resolving the problem with the banner, correcting it to "Country Above Self". However, according to the websites of the Government and Prime Minister of St. Kitts & Nevis, the shield is not white, but sky blue. I took all my colours for the arms directly from their site, and therefore I'm going to change that back. I thank you again though for the banner, as that was beyond my abilities. Fry1989 (talk) 23:18, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, no problem. Thanks for notifying ! Arnaud Ramey (talk) 08:34, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your work. Can you just correct the inscription? It says "The United States of America", but it's supposed to say "The Confederate States of America". Thanks Fry1989 eh? 21:16, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't drink and draw :) Pb solved. Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 13:26, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid it needs one more fix. You put "Confederated" instead of "Confederate". Fry1989 eh? 18:57, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 18:37, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay, the upload failed last time. Now done and clear. Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 14:00, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all :) If you have any spare time, could you take a jab at this request? I'd really appreciate it. Fry1989 eh? 18:27, 8 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hum, it looks quite a tedious request. I prefer focusing on requests that really involve some drawing. I'll pass on this one. Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 09:23, 12 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I absolutely understand. If drawing's your spirit, the House and Senate seals for Alabama in this request might interest you :) Fry1989 eh? 18:24, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

you came back![edit]

Sorry if I overloaded you. I really appreciate your help!--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 12:44, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello ! Yeah, I'm around. I'm more careful this time to accept more work than I can cope with :) Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 18:07, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There were a couple you were working on when you left, can you finish those?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:24, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I will give a look. Can you point me to the missing ones ? Arnaud.ramey (talk · contribs) 14:01, 6 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The File:Far East Council Ryukyu Islands.svg partially finished before you left. Please have a look, but take your time.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 18:22, 6 September 2011 (UTC)--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 15:58, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Need a little help[edit]

Would you by any chance be able to answer my question here? I was under the impression you were able to do what I am trying to, in Inkscape. Fry1989 eh? 03:53, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
