Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Please do not do unilateral undeletions unless there are coarse errors by the deleting admin. There was a deletion discussion and a result. You shouldn't just undelete (especially not without any comment). Please start new DRs on the files now to discuss them again and clearly outline why you think the previous deletion was wrong.

Answer to what? How frequently? Seldom. I restore files not often. Usually after user requests of discussions (these files was restored after discussion in uk-wiki), for example, about restoring of File:KalushCOA.jpg see above.--Anatoliy (talk) 01:09, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
"Answer" in the meaning of to submit a deletion request as I have advised you. Undeletion discussions shouldn't be done on user talk pages if possible. And for those two files you did not link or provide any reason at all. Cheers --Saibo (Δ) 01:15, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Вообще-то Commons — проект многоязычный, здесь английский язык не имеет каких-то преференций (только именование каиегорий и официальніе правила должні біть на английском, а востальном можно использовать локальный язык). Так что на каком языке мне удобно, на таком и общаюсь. Тем более в том обсуждении принимают учатие только русскоязычные участники. Да и если человек из какого-нибудь Никарагуа, откуда ему знать русское законодательство об авторских правах (нем болле что законы все равно на русском).--Anatoliy (talk) 15:55, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Ahonc, Please read COM:D. Please explain why you did simply delete the file for "Out of project scope". You are not allowed to make such deletions. Out of scope deletions need DRs (in those non-clear cases - maybe not in case of clear spam, for example). --Saibo (Δ) 05:09, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

It wasn't in use at the time of the DRs - it was kept on the grounds that human sexual activities are part of commons's scope, and that the masturbatory practice of putting stuff up one's ass was therefore also within scope. This is a high quality image, even if it is of something you don't like. -mattbuck (Talk) 12:50, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Okay, good. If you doubt something is useful (and it is not in use which would confirm its usefulness) then please open a deletion request on this file and state why you think it is not useful based on policy (COM:D, COM:PS). You might understand that we are worried about this deletion since if we had the file not on our watchlists it would have simply vanished and no one noticed it - despite its assured usefulness. Did you note that it is for example the only man in Category:Sexual penetrative use of food? --Saibo (Δ) 16:15, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

Ні, РДА в іншій будівлі. Це райради часто розташовуються в одній будівлі з РДА, а не міські. А ми спочатку сюди приїхали, але це виявилась міська рада, а потім поїхали в РДА, яка знаходиться в іншому місці. Так що інформація перевірена. --Visem (talk) 11:07, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
