Question about Lee Ju-yeon pic

Hello, I wanted to say (and ask) something. I accept that the images that I uploaded are going to be deleted, and I uploaded the pic of Juyeon, because I thought that the following three files that were uploaded recently on wikimedia and added on the vietnamese wikipedia, File:Juyeon.jpg, File:Juyeon.webp and File:Juyeon98.jpg were going to be deleted soon and I wanted to have another picture for a english wikipedia draft about Juyeon. Do you think I could add any of the three images I mentioned? Thanks, Bloomingbyungchan (talk) 14:29, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

@Bloomingbyungchan: Unfortunately, I think all 3 photos are copyvios. Ytoyoda (talk) 14:46, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ytoyoda: I imagined that those photos were copyrighted, but I still wished I could have added them. Thank you so much for answering me! Bloomingbyungchan (talk) 14:53, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ytoyoda: I have to say another thing: the user that uploaded the three photos, has also uploaded a cropped version of a content related to an official fanclub, that can be easily found online in the full version (File:Juyeon2.png) Bloomingbyungchan (talk) 13:46, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
@Bloomingbyungchan: I think the signature is fine because it's just text, which is usually not eligible for copyright. Ytoyoda (talk) 13:12, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
@Ytoyoda: Oh ok, thanks for letting me know! Bloomingbyungchan (talk) 13:32, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Help me my friend

I need upload the profile picture of Luis Carlos Sánchez. If you can do that for me I will appreciate it. Bipro23 (talk) 21:30, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

@Bipro23: I'm not sure how much help I can be. The thing to keep in mind is that almost all photographs you find on the web are copyrighted. The most straightforward thing is to take a picture yourself. Otherwise, you can contact photographers directly and see if they'll release their works into the public domain. I suggest reading COM:LICENSING before uploading any more photographs though. Ytoyoda (talk) 13:19, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Re: File:Fernando Diniz (cropped).jpg

Hello,

Please keep in mind that I have no relation concerning the license of the photo, I just cropped the original one for better display.

Regards,

Sepguilherme (talk) 12:36, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

That's fine - you didn't know that the original was a copyvio. Ytoyoda (talk) 12:37, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

ICONS / Icons Museum

Re [1] When I did a web search, ICONS seemed to be intentionally capitalized in the museum name. Have you found differently? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:45, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

@Infrogmation: My understanding of the Wikipedia MOS was that we avoid all-caps, even in trademarks, unless the name is an acronym or initialism. I'm not entirely certain though. Ytoyoda (talk) 16:09, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Zenit v Juventus

Hi, I'm uploading all the images of the match now. Just wanted to let you know, in case you wanted to upload other images (so that we avoid duplicate images). Nehme1499 (talk) 15:06, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

@Nehme1499: Thanks for the heads up. They can all go in Category:FC Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Juventus, 20 October 2021. Ytoyoda (talk) 15:08, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
✓ Done. I'll add the categories for the Juventus players. Nehme1499 (talk) 15:21, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Photos from soccer.ru

Thanks, Ytoyoda, for uploading photos to category Category:Spartak Moscow vs. Leicester City, 20 October 2021! I also hope that you and other Wikicommons users will upload also the photos of Russian players (players from football clubs in Russia). I see that in Category:FC Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Juventus, 20 October 2021 category the majority of photos are not about foolballers from russian association football club (Zenit). Soccer.ru is a Russian website in which has invested the work of many people and photographers from Russia, and which on a stable basis produces high-quality photographs from Russia on football topics, and which should be treated with respect, and not used only as a photo uploader for non-Russian footballers. --Brateevsky {talk} 08:02, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

@Brateevsky Hi, thanks for your message. I definitely understand your concern that Russia-based players are being overlooked. I'm uploading photographs of players I recognize, and being based in the United States, that's usually players who are in England, Italy or Spain, leagues that are on television here and therefore more familiar with. We also tend to have fewer high-quality photos of players who are based in England or Italy. It's not my intent to ignore players at Russian clubs. But again, thank you for the message and I'll try to upload photos of Russian players where they're needed. Ytoyoda (talk) 12:22, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
@Brateevsky: Keep in mind that Category:FC Zenit Saint Petersburg vs. Juventus, 20 October 2021 includes all photos from the soccer.ru gallery. Nehme1499 (talk) 12:31, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Uploads by Miguel Angel Victoria

Please don't tag images for speedy deletion where the uploader's name clearly appears on the external website, as with File:Puente negro cln.jpg and File:Las riberas.jpg. You can apply {{subst:npd}} or open a regular DR in such cases if you feel it is necessary for the uploader to prove who they are. -- King of ♥ 18:23, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Gotcha, I didn't realize until later that the uploader and the copyright owner names were the same. Ytoyoda (talk) 18:24, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Barnstar of Diplomacy
Hey bro, i am new here to this website TheCoolUnknownGuy (talk) 16:30, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
US politician Robert F. Kennedy.

File:Rkennedy02 (flopped).jpg is a duplicate of the original file shown here. Before voting to speedily delete the duplicate, I checked whether it was in use, and was surprised to find that it was indeed used in your "sports" gallery. I cannot find any connection between the subject and sports, nor between the photographer and sports. Do you know why the bot would have included this image in a sports gallery? Brianjd (talk) 13:20, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

That's weird. It's only been categorized under Category:Robert F. Kennedy and Category:Evan Freed, and I don't see how either falls under the Sports category. I really don't have any explanation, but thanks for letting me know. Ytoyoda (talk) 13:40, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

It has been a long time since I nominated this photo for deletion where you'd provided the "true" link for where this photo come from. I still see that file has not been deleted yet with only both of us agreeing that should be deleted. Odd one. Iggy the Swan (talk) 18:45, 18 November 2021 (UTC)

I think there’s a huge backlog of deletion requests, though I don’t think it’s a huge problem with this pic since it’s no longer used on Wikipedia. That said, I might add a speedy tag if it hits the two-month mark in a couple of weeks. Ytoyoda (talk) 11:46, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
Indeed, there are plenty of items listed on the Commons:Deletion requests/2021/10/03 page which still has a lot of existing photos alone. So this photo is certainly not the only one which has stayed on here longer than seven days after the tag was placed by me. Iggy the Swan (talk) 11:46, 27 November 2021 (UTC)

File:Il re muore.png

Grazie, ciao. --GuardiamarinaVeneziano (talk) 08:53, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

@GuardiamarinaVeneziano The simple answer is that sometimes there are no images to properly represent a topic. Some film stills are old and out of copyright, but you would have to present evidence that they are in the public domain. Ytoyoda (talk) 17:06, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
ok.. thanks for the answer! GuardiamarinaVeneziano (talk) 17:11, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Hello! By the way "Dollhouse" is not the same thing as "Houses in..." as it is not a liveable house. I thus reverted your edits that included Houses in the category as this object is not a house. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 20:41, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

@Ellin Beltz Thanks! Should it still be in the Victorian building subcat? Ytoyoda (talk) 20:46, 7 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi. I am not sure if it should be in Victorian Building as it is a model built in last 30 years. It is based on a Victorian House designed by T.J. Frost (local architect during Victorian era). But it's a conundrum! Ellin Beltz (talk) 22:33, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

2 Photo's I took myself and uploaded

Hi Ytoyoda,

How are you? Thank you for your message on my talk page. My name is Ilse and I have uploaded 2 photo's I took myself at a premiere of Sander Jan Klerk, he is an actor. I thought the way to do this was via Flickr, so I created a profile and a name there and uploaded them. It's nice to have so I can upload more photo's in the future. I might also add other celebrities. These are photo's I took myself, do I need to send an email to somewhere? You can see and check that these photo's are nowhere else to be found online. They are mine, I took them. I call myself BMpress and want to take photo's from celebrities at events.

What should I do? Keep them there? Or remove them from flickr and re-upload them via another way?

These are the links:

Thanks, Ilse — Preceding unsigned comment added by BMpressfans (talk • contribs) 10:31, December 10, 2021‎ (UTC)

@BMpressfans: Hi, thank you for responding. If they're your original photos, then I would do two things:
  1. Make it more obvious that you and the Flickr user are the same person
  2. Follow the steps described at COM:VRT and submit a license statement, as well as some evidence that you are indeed the photographer of the photos. Ytoyoda (talk) 15:36, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the quick reply! Both my Flickr page and my account here have the same name already and both use the same email address. What else can I do to make it more obvious? Do you want me to change the description there to something so you can see and then change it back? Should I put my name Ilse in there? ::Also, if the license is stated there (I chose public, no need to put any rights on my photo's), isn't anyone allowed to post the Flickr link here? I mean, if I hadn't put my Flickr photo on Wikimedia commons myself, anyone else could have done it too, right? So what is the point of proving that in the first place? And also, what evidence can I think of to send to that email address, when there is literally no other place that these photo's exist? I took them and posted them. I can send the form to that address and say the same things as I say here. I will try to do that now, thank, Ilse/BM press. Edit: I have just sent the email with confirmation. I have also added a text in the description on Flickr to prove that is also my profile and I took them. Please let me know what else I can do. BMpressfans (talk) 16:16, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
{re|BMpressfans}} So what happens often is when a Commons user wants to upload images they don't own, they'll create a new Flickr account, license the images as free and then upload to Commons with the Flickr links. This is known as license laundering. The typical signs are, new Flickr accounts with very few followers or follows and photostreams that are limited to a single topic. So you can see why your uploads got my attention. I think it's natural to think, "Why create a new Flickr account when you can just upload to Commons directly?"
Now, it looks like these are legitimately your photos, but I think it would've been less confusing if you'd simply made it obvious that you were the photographer. Here's how I would've entered the image info:
=={{int:filedesc}}==
{{Information
|description={{en|1=Sander Jan Klerk at James Bond movie premiere "No Time To Die"}}
|date=2021-10-09 00:12:04
|source={{own}}
|author=[[User:BMpressfans|BMpressfans]]
|permission=
|other versions=Also published at https://www.flickr.com/photos/194445291@N03/51691447376/
}}
=={{int:license-header}}==
{{self|CC0}}{{FlickreviewR}}
That way, you show that it's your own work but also let other editors know that you've posted it to your Flickr account. Ytoyoda (talk) 16:25, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your time and effort Ytoyoda. That makes sense, I understand. I have adjusted the info at both photo's like your example. Thanks again, have a good weekend! BMpressfans (talk) 16:59, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Palazzo Wanny licence images

Hello Ytoyoda, thank you to warning me about the Palazzo Wanny's images. I already asked the owner of the images to send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with the format found in the license guide.

Hope that it will be all right.

Deletion of Croatian FCs logos

I have drawn all 3 digital image logos in this link below myself, from the original real life logo, as I am helping the Croatian FA fill the missing data of small provincial town clubs on Wikipedia: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:TzPGZ Apart from the Quarnero one (which is a photo of a sport association physical badge that was created under communist rules of copyright 76 years ago and therefore not subjected to any copyright law, as none existed back then - although I agree with its deletion, because I plan to substitute it with a professional vector image as soon as I have some time), it is not correct to delete these logos without a discussion and giving the possibility to provide some evidence that the clubs to which they are associated are ok with its use (which I can easily get on a direct request basis by these small clubs themselves - being that they are extremely happy somebody is helping them improve their Wikipedia pages with quality data and up to date information that was lacking until now). This aside, the wikipedia usage (reproduction for wikipedia usage) of football clubs logos falls within the FAIR USAGE/DEALING of copyright law: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exceptions-to-copyright#fair-dealing The real life logo of all these small clubs (from towns with 2-10k inhabitants) playing today in provincial leagues are absolutely not limited by any copyright provision that would prohibit its no-profit use on Wikipedia. Of course these clubs do not state this openly on their pages for me to provide you a link, because Football logos in the EU are not under copyright limitation for non-commercial and fair use. Otherwise all big clubs in Europe (which, contrary to these small clubs, do have the will and the money to sue people misusing their trademarks) would not have their logo featured on the respective Wikipedia pages. But as you see, all top 1000 football clubs in the EU have their logo and plenty of other trademarked imagery featured extensively here on Wikipedia, without any issue. It's the EU law that allows for this: https://www.sports.legal/2017/02/football-club-badges-the-legal-implications-of-misuse/ Moreover, also the law of the Republic of Croatia allows for such digital no-profit use of Sport club logos on the internet: https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/hr/web/observatory/faqs-on-copyright-hr (answer number 14) — Preceding unsigned comment added by TzPGZ (talk • contribs) 22:31, 23 November 2021 (UTC)
