Checking 100s of edits is a lot of work. Although you may make mistakes (we all make mistakes), you're certainly not a vandal. You could become a trusted member when you register. Note that nobody gets below the radar, users check upon eachother, even if they're registered and/or are a "trusted" user.. However that is social control and watch lists, not vandalism patrol. Date format in {{Information}}

Hi 69.115.42.244,

I saw these edits recently. I'd like to kindly ask you to stop doing these edits. There is a standardized date format which is automatically parsed by {{Information}} and translated into the user language (example (scroll down to see the result)). There is no need to use {{Date}} and certainly no need to preserve the old value in <s> mark.

If you did know about this but have another reason, please let me know I'm always open to suggestions to improve the system :) –Krinkle^talk 00:58, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

OK - I will not make those edits. Unfortunatey, I had previously read at the Railtown 1897 web site and I also saw the video report at KCRA TV that both mentioned that Sierra Railway 3 was put back into service on 3 July 2010, hence the photo cannot date from 2009 as was written out into the description by BotMultichillT. The date I struck out was one that Drew Jacksich apparently has set (perhaps accidentally?) on his uploads to flickr. It appears that BotMultichillT reads the flickr date stamps and enters them into the date entry in the commons page. Since Drew uploaded with an incorrect date (he did not go back in time and upload to flicker in 2009 a photo that was taken in 2010) the incorrect date was repeated here. Please accept my apologies for correcting the mistake that was apparently originally made by Drew J., then repeated by the flickr website and BotMultichillT in a manner that indicated to future wikimedia commons editors that the mistake was made at the source, analogous to the way in which some quotations are presented with the latin word (sic). 69.115.42.244 01:26, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

I don't know anything about "Sierra Railway 3". Fixing a wrong creation date meta-data of a file is good. Thanks for fixing that! The "problem" I inform about was to the format in which you did so. Instead of wrapping the date in {{Date}} and keeping the "wrong" date in <s> mark, simply change the date directly and conform to the YEAR-MM-DD format. No need to worry about losing information since all previous versions of all pages are kept in the "history". See for example here and here –Krinkle^talk 01:33, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi you both! At Krinkle: in fact, I think the transparent way which 69.115.42.244 did was not the worst idea (it even is a good idea). Krinkle, thank you for pointing out that {{Information}} supports localization in its date parameter. I had mistakenly thought that it did not, in part because of the extensive use of the language templates (like {{En}}, {{Es}}, {{De}}, etc.) for the description parameter, in part by the mention of the use of {{Date}} in the documentation for {{Information}}, and in part by the explicit invitation to add localizations to {{Date}} on that template's documentation page.
