Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Rockets and payload categories

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} (if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available) or {{SD|C1}} (if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused). In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page. ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 01:34, 17 December 2023 (UTC)

Again, please, this came up for Category:NOAA-1, etc. When you just blank the page, yes, it will probably get taken care of, but it will be handled by someone who is trying to work on a different sort of issue. If you use {{SD}}, it gets handled by someone who actually intends to be working on speedy deletions, and will be much happier to have this land in their queue. - Jmabel ! talk 05:21, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
