Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Renaming categories

Village - Municipality

Hi Århus, village and municipality denote different concepts and thus moving from one to the other category most of the time is not correct. A village is a settlement, surrounded often by uninhabited areas. A municipality on the other hand is an area surrounded by borders to the neighbouring municipalities. In a municipality there could be more than a village, but in some rare cases a village could be separated also into more than one municipality. cheers. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 23:52, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Ich gehe die de:WP-Gemeinde-Kategorien systematisch durch. D.h. alles, was ich als Gemeinde kategorisiere, ist auch eine Gemeinde. Der Rest ist, gelinde gesagt, das totale Chaos. Da gibt es "Cities", die im Leben noch kein Stadtrecht hatten. In manchen Bundesländern ist das "Gemeinde"-Konzept nur rudimentär zu erkennen, stattdessen wurde immer "Village" genommen. --Århus (talk) 23:58, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Ok, du hast Recht (mit dem Chaos), aber aus villages municipalities zu machen, ist nicht korrekt. Oft ist eine Gemeinde gleichzeitig auch ein Dorf (und sollte dann beide Kategorien haben). Wie schon oben beschrieben, sind die beiden Konzepte orthogonal und stehen in keiner Eltern-Kind-Beziehung im Kategoriebaum. Es ist ehrenhaft, wenn du da aufräumst, insbesondere ist die Kategorisierung nach village / city schwer nachvollziehbar, ich würde eine gemeinsame Kategorie Villages and cities in bla bla besser finden. Ist für den Benutzer einfacher, da er genau die Information der Stadterhebung nicht braucht, um richtig zu kategorisieren. lg --Herzi Pinki (talk) 00:14, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Ich würde am liebsten auf alle Villages und Cities verzichten und stattdessen nur noch Municipalities haben (wie in de:WP auch). Diejenigen jetzigen Village-Kategorien, die nicht gleichzeitig Gemeinden sind, sind dann eben nur Unterkategorien der jeweiligen Gemeindekategorie. Zu den Villages, die gleichzeitig Municipalities sind: die werden auch eher nach Gemeinde gefüllt, als strikt auf den Ort begrenzt, z.B. Karten der Gemeinde, ausserhalb des Ortes liegende Burgruinen, allerlei Quellen und geographische Objekte ausserhalb des Dorfes. Soll heissen: auch bei Villages ist in der Regel die Gemeinde gemeint. --Århus (talk) 12:29, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
