According to ancient tradition, Homer's mother came from the island of Ios. It is supposedly buried in the mountains of northeastern tip of the island and its famous son, too. It's a whole lot of questionable, if not completely impossible.

For the foundations of the monastery of Agia Theodoti, off the east coast of the island of Ios, they found plaque with the inscription, which uses ancient calendar in the local version: Uses the "Homer month." It is on display at the Archaeological Museum of Ios (in Chora).

Legendární "Homérův hrob". S ostrovem Íos je ovšem Homér spojovaný často, dokonce se tady po něm jmenoval jeden kalendářní měsíc.
