Prieditis2012[edit]

Hello! Could you delete files uploaded by Prieditis2012? They shouldn't be used in articles and it could be copyvio, too. --Edgars2007 (talk) 15:35, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Not done I am not sure. They can be free from copyright as work of different governments. By principle, using such files is not encouraged, they should be replaced with different tables. But if I delete them, then the data are lost. Please create a regular deletion request (one request for all files) for discussion of the matter. Taivo (talk) 15:48, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

How can I upload the cover page of my own weekly?[edit]

You deleted 4 files representing the first pages of my newspaper from 1994 till today. 2014_TG_51.jpg It had been uploaded by Witoldgalazka who collaborates in touch with me. I'm not sure if it's prohibited at all or maybe I described them wrong in copyrights category? It's important to me to show the cover. It could have copyleft status and is totaly free to use. It has no assotiations with no publicity. I act on behalf of the owner of Trybuna Górnicza weekly (Wydawnictwo Górnicze Sp. z o.o. which is publishing house). I reproducted the covers myself. Please explain me all details. Best regards - Redakcjatg

Usually newspaper's first pages are not own work. If you are copyright owner of the files, please write OTRS-permission and explain there. Then the OTRS-departement restores the files. Taivo (talk) 09:22, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, regards. Witoldgalazka

Meteorite/constellation uploads[edit]

Hi Taivo: Please take a look at all the meteorite, laser sign engraver's uploads, here. He has a series of "19th Century Art" with no artists names, he has a series of meteorites for sale, images of laser cut metal also for sale, and a series of images he took from an astronomy/astrology website. The meteorites and the laser printing send the reader to a for-sale website which shows no release of copyright. I suspect the uploader is involved with the for-sale website/s to which he leads us, please read his user page which has as its entire contents the name of an antiques business (hence the 19th Century Art) and a contact email. I don't think the uploader is here to create good images for Commons; I am afraid this one is here for commercial purposes. Just my 2cents and a headsup to you, because I try to be really careful with Nominations! Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:37, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Unfortunately it seems to me, that you are right. Of course you know, that I deleted today maybe ten of his uploads. Tomorrow I must look his remaining uploads once more ... Taivo (talk) 15:42, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
It makes me sad that people don't read the upload guidelines and rules; and/or that others seem intent on "gaming" the system. HUGS! Ellin Beltz (talk) 16:18, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
You wrote, that something is "work of Ölgemälde_KORNBICHLER". Probably you googled it and found nothing. If I saw this thing, then I laughed. "Ölgemälde" means in German "oil painting". Hugs! Taivo (talk) 18:01, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
Well I don't speak German at all, so please forgive! I assumed it was the name because it says something like of the painter as above. So funny! Save it in my silly outtakes files! Ellin Beltz (talk) 23:49, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Такие бессвязные запросы следует удалять во избежание замусоривания проекта, а не отвечать на них. К слову, я уже с пяток таких вынес, и все удалили. С уважением, /St1995 12:33, 16 April 2014 (UTC)

Я думал об этом. Иногда я согласен удалить заявку для удаления, если это явный вандализм, но здесь это по-моему было не так явно и по-этому я просто закрыл эту заявку. Taivo (talk) 08:19, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Re: Special:Diff/121885980[edit]

I thought I had given enough reason in the speedy template to delete the category page. It needs to make way for a proper move so that I can recreate it along with the proper attribution. We are discussing it at User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands/talk#Moving lots of files into new category. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 10:01, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

I did not know, that such kind of move needs old category deletion. OK, I delete it. Taivo (talk) 10:09, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. Your assistance was much appreciated. You can choose to undelete the old revisions if you wish, or leave the category as is. TeleComNasSprVen (talk) 10:17, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Art of Jeanne Lauvernay-Petitjean[edit]

Hello Taivo.

I am a french beginner on Wikipedia / Wikimedia.

On april 21, you deleted the following pictures :

These was used to illustrate an article in Wikipedia.

You provided this explanation: Jeanne Lauvernay-Petitjean (died in 1955) is not in public domain. Copyright violation. 82.120.160.185 21:56, 16 April 2014 (UTC).

I understand your point of view but I think I have the total copyrights: The artist is my grandmother, I own these two paintings in my home and I photographed them by myself.

How to reintroduce these two pictures in Wikimedia commons and prevent a new deletion?

Thank you in advance for your advices.

Nileboat — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nileboat (talk • contribs)

Please send OTRS-permission, give the filenames and explain in the mail, that the artist was your grandmother. OTRS-department claims, that time for waiting is approximately a day. After that OTRS-volunteers undelete the files, you do not need to re-upload the images. Taivo (talk) 08:19, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

I noticed, that you called himself Asaphon (talk · contribs), although you are actually Nileboat. Using two usernames in Wikipedia is prohibited (mostly). As the user Asaphon has no edits, I'd like to block the account. Please contribute only under name Nileboat. Taivo (talk) 08:26, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Taivo! You have deleted the file:Mujeremprededora logotipo.jpg because I have asked you. The original file name was wrong. Now I can not upload the correct file. I receive the following message: There was another file already on the site with the same content, but it was deleted. What can I do? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vcalsam (talk • contribs)

Sorry, you wrote the request in Spanish, but I do not understand Spanish at all. I did not understand, that you want to rename the file. Requesting deletion was not good, you should request to rename the file. Requesting speedy deletion was especially bad. OK, I undelete the file and rename it. Taivo (talk) 11:15, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

"The logo is not own work and in my opinion surpasses threshold of originality (this is neither circle nor ellipse, the letters JIR are not in standard font). I suspect copyright violation. The uploader has been blocked for uploading copyvios. Taivo (talk) 11:31, 23 March 2014 (UTC)" - What you write as explanation of your deletion is the real outrage.

1. "The logo is not own work" - It was described as: This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use. under following: This is a logo of an organization, company, brand, etc., and for the reason of: This image will be shown as a primary means of visual identification at the top of the article. Meaning, it's use was MINIMAL, only in the Infobox template of the article on en.wikipedia.com; I also believe it's use as wikimedia file was similar on other wikipedia languages of the connected article;
2. "in my opinion surpasses threshold of originality (this is neither circle nor ellipse, the letters JIR are not in standard font)" - Who are you to say so? Say that to the creators of company's logo. It was original, written in the . How can you give neutral, objective, critical look on font of the text if it is an image file? See this: [1] or this one [2]; Does it looks different to you than file you deleted?
3. "I suspect copyright violation. The uploader has been blocked for uploading copyvios." - From the text I written to you, which I think is fairly valid, based on wikipedia/wikimedia rules of uploading files, what was copyright violation on this file in your opinion? Last question, have you warned previously that contributor (uploader of file) that he may violated wiki rules (if any violations was there), so and after that he continued with malicious edits, or you just banned him for obviously NO REASON?

p.s. Think before you do!--AirWolf (talk) 15:33, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

Point 1 is incorrect. The only description of the file was "Logo of Serbian Railways." By the way, free use is prohibited in Commons, all files uploaded as free use will be deleted. And the uploader Albatalad claimed, that the logo is his/her own work, no other source was given. Taivo (talk) 16:02, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Point 2: Why did I say, that the logo surpasses threshold of originality? Because I (as every other administrator of Commons) am expert in this matter. Taivo (talk) 16:02, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Point 3. Yes, I warned Albatalad, that the file may be deleted (look his/her talk page). But I did not block him/her (Martin did that). For uploading the logo into Commons, Serbian Railways must send OTRS-permission. Some local wikipedias allow free use, the logo can be uploaded into these wikipedias without any permission. Taivo (talk) 16:02, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
OK, I didn't know that Commons needs licence for any kind of file. Whole argument seemed valid for en.wiki, not there. I have read rules of Commons later. Thanks for answer. Bye. --AirWolf (talk) 06:50, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Category:Batman ¿This category is located at Category:Batman and his cast?[edit]

Hello. Taivo. Batman is a Park in Melbourne, Batman is a road bridge in Tasmania, Batman is a Province of Turkey. Tanks. --Allforrous (talk) 11:44, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

I know, that the name has other meanings, but the main meaning is the comics character. Most peaople mean exactly that, when they say "Batman". In addition, categories about the bridge, the park and the province have logical name, but category about the character has illogical name and it is difficult to search it. Do we have Category:Snow White and her cast, Category:Dilbert and his cast, Category:Sherlock Holmes and his cast? In my opinion the redirect is justified. The users need a little help. Taivo (talk) 13:03, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

???[edit]

This is not correct - did you not read the discussion? The picture is protected by copyright. --IIIraute (talk) 15:05, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Of course I read the discussion. I added licenses for USA and source country (Germany), Polish law does not matter. The copyright ended in Germany after 70 years from creation (1989), in USA it was never protected with copyright. Taivo (talk) 15:40, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi Taivo, personally I find this closure a bit premature in regard to time (just 1 day after opening this DR), but also in regard to the result, as there was only one keep-commenter and her "it's been published" rationale is not really convincing. IMO, this should have been left open for the regular span of 7 days to allow for more comments from both the US and Poland/Germany. --Túrelio (talk) 15:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

It is so obvious for me, that the photo is free from copyright. I really do not think, that the photo needs more discussion. Taivo (talk) 15:40, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Please explain. I am sorry, but what you are saying is not correct - please see here

--IIIraute (talk) 15:49, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Now I understand your point. You claim, that the photo was first published in 2013. But if the work is not published at all, then it copyright expires 70 years after creation. The copyright expired in 1989, if it is considered published earlier, and the copyright expired in 1989, if it is considered unpublished earlier. Publishing the photo later does not recreate copyright. Taivo (talk) 16:08, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
The article states: "The photo is said to have been taken in the spring of 1919 in Poznan, shortly after Poland won back its independence." here - so why does Polish law not matter? He is wearing a Polish uniform - he is in Poland.

Also, how do you know the author is unknown. All we know is that the photograph was provided by "Zygmunt Rychlicki" and now is copyright protected by "Gazeta Wyborcza", a newspaper printed in Poland, that belongs to Agora SA, a Polish media company. GAZETA is the corporate author, i.e. the organization that authorizes or commissions the publication, and under whose official name it is entered in the publisher's catalog. --IIIraute (talk) 16:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Please look two appropriate licenses: Taivo (talk) 16:40, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
Public domain
This work was published before January 1, 1920 and it is anonymous or pseudonymous due to unknown authorship. It is in the public domain in the United States as well as countries and areas where the copyright terms of anonymous or pseudonymous works are 104 years or fewer since publication.
Public domain
This photograph is in the public domain because according to the Art. 3 of copyright law of March 29, 1926 of the Republic of Poland and Art. 2 of copyright law of July 10, 1952 of the People's Republic of Poland, all photographs by Polish photographers (or published for the first time in Poland or simultaneously in Poland and abroad) published without a clear copyright notice before the law was changed on May 23, 1994 are assumed to be in the public domain in Poland.
To uploader: Please provide where and when the image was first published.
But according to "Polish Copyright Law", Division 3.1. Rights to First Publications and Scientific and Critical Publications, Article 99.1: "The publisher who, after the expiry of the copyright protection term, for the first time legally publishes or otherwise disseminates the work, the copies of which have not been provided to the public, shall have an exclusive right to dispose and use the work in all the fields of exploitation for the period of 25 years after the date of the first publication or dissemination." & Article 99.3: "The provisions of Articles 99.1 and 99.2 shall apply accordingly to the works and texts, which have never been covered by a copyright protection because of their nature or time of creation."

& Article 99.5: "1. The provisions of the Act shall apply to the first publications:

1) whose publisher has the seat or the domicile on the territory of the Republic of Poland; or 2) whose publisher has the seat or the domicile on the territory of the European Economic Area; or 3) which are protected under international agreements to the extent that their protection arises from such agreements." --IIIraute (talk) 16:55, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

I closed the deletion request, because I felt, that nobody will object. This feeling was incorrect and I reverted myself. Probably more discussion is needed. It is better, when you write that now in the re-opened deletion request. Now I feel, that speedy closure of the request is wrong. It is better, when it remains open for full week. Taivo (talk) 18:20, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Ok - thank you. --IIIraute (talk) 02:39, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

Deleting pictures[edit]

--KIKIRPA(talk) 07:07, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I do not understand Frech at all. I do not understand, what you are saying. Taivo (talk) 12:12, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Taivo I'm the person of IRPA, a belgian institution, who brodcast the photography on Internet and on Wikipédia. The photographies that you had deleted today are in right and respect the author's rights and the license Commons. the first time I put this pictures on Wikimedia I made some false in the description but this time I have the correct description and authorisatio. The photographer who took the pictures work for IRPA and we have the copyright for the pictures. I have send an email to explain this to OTRS but I haven't got receive an answer.

Is it possible to come back with the deleting of the image? Sorry for my english, i'm not very sure with this language. --KIKIRPA (talk) 12:31, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

You write in English quite well. If OTRS-permission arrives, then it is possible to restore the files. Please, do not re-upload the photos. Waiting time is approximately one day. Taivo (talk) 12:42, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Tank you for your answer, i will wait. I hope the aurorisation will be ok for all the pictures that I'll put on Commons in the future--KIKIRPA (talk) 12:44, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Taivo I have receive an autorisation from OTRS. Why do you have deleted the pictures that I have import an commons?--KIKIRPA (talk) 14:37, 21 May 2014 (UTC)
Now I did not delete them. User:Dereckson deleted them and he gave reason "the OTRS ticket were written by a communication person, not by the photo curator, without proof of a mandate to act. Furthermore, a mail sent to the photo curator weren't replied." Probably Dereckson thinks, that you are not the person, who can give permission. Probably Dereckson wants permission from photo curator. I do not know, who is curator. Taivo (talk) 06:48, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Statue of Fangio under copyright?[edit]

Hi Taivo, The Category:Statue of Juan Manuel Fangio (Buenos Aires) contains all photos of the statue dedicated to Juan M. Fangio in Buenos Aires. The images were taken from Flickr but they wouldn't be suitable to be hosted here due to the statue was made by Spanish artist Joaquim Ros Sabaté (source: La Nación newspaper) (born 1936 and still the copyright holder so sculptures are not included in FoP-Argentina).

My question is: Which status is valid to determine if the images should be hosted here or not, the Flickr license or Commons copyright rules of FoP?

Thanks in advance, Cheers - Fma12 (talk) 12:25, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

The photos are generally protected with copyright. Freedom of panorama in Argentina does not cover sculptures. On Thursday I will nominate them for deletion. With one exception: the plaque on sculpture in my opinion does not surpass threshold of originality and can stay in Commons, but this is debatable. Taivo (talk) 14:27, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

I uploaded file:84 Charring Cross Road.JPG, witch is the cover of first italian edition of the novel. Now I have published the article on italian version it:84, Charing Cross Road (romanzo). The english version of the article has the immage of the cover. Since I had not the autorization of the editor, I deleted my immage, and tried to make a link to the immage there is in en.wikipedia, but I does not work. I know that USA copyright low and Italian copyright low are different, but I thought that the law adoptable wos the one of the place where are the server cointaing the page, and I suppose they are in Florida. --Susanna Giaccai (talk) 13:29, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Really, that kind of linking does not work. Every file in Commons must be free in USA AND in coutry of origin. You can re-upload the book cover into Commons and add license {{PD-shape}} or {{PD-ineligible}}, but I am not sure, that the file is ineligible for copyright, maybe somebody wants to delete it anyway. I do not know, if it.wiki accepts fair use. If it does, then you can upload the file into it.wiki as fair use. Taivo (talk) 15:04, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

Now the category is redirect into Category:N476HA (aircraft). I do not know, if "N476HA" has some other meaning except aircraft. Probably no. I'd like to recategorize all files into category "N476HA" and to delete category "... (aircraft)". I am not specialist in aircrafts, therefore I do not do that. But I do not like categories with explanation in parenthesis, if the explanation is actually not needed. Taivo (talk) 15:04, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
I am new in "aircraft categorization"; I think that someone in the past decided to append (aircraft) to every aircraft registration number; don't know if right or wrong, but that's the way it is now. Thanks for your answer. --JotaCartas (talk) 15:20, 24 May 2014 (UTC)

MIT/GNU Scheme Logo Permission[edit]

Hi! I'm writing about the following image: inline.

I've vectorized an image located at the GNU Project page and uploaded it to Commons as MIT GNU Scheme Logo.svg. I've put myself in the Author field and a link to GNU Project page in the Source field. It seemed like a logical thing to do.

Now there is a nasty Permission banner saying the image may be deleted. I'm not really well versed in the Wikipedia rules, so please excuse my ignorance, but could you please explain how can I stop the deletion from happening. Unfortunately, I have no information regarding the license of the original raster logo, but since MIT/GNU Scheme is a GPL-licensed GNU project, I believe it's safe to assume that its logo is also shared under a similar license. Honestly, I can't imagine GNU would even think about uploading a non-free image to their own website. Denis Fadeev (talk) 16:49, 26 May 2014 (UTC)

Со мной можно и по-русски говорить. You had used clearly incorrect license, stating, that you are the author. I changed the license and categorized the file. Probably the file is now OK. Taivo (talk) 10:11, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Shefanco[edit]

Hello. Excuse me, but it seems that you have not deleted all the files when you closed this DR. Thank you for your help. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 15:38, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

I just realized you were doing it. Sorry for bothering you. Regards, BrightRaven (talk) 15:42, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
At 15.32 I closed the request and at 15.38 you complained, that I have not deleted all twenty images. That's funny. Taivo (talk) 15:44, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

Failide ümbernimetamine[edit]

Kas sinu poole saab pöörduda ka selliste probleemidega, kui on vaja mõnda faili ümber nimetada? Kruusamägi (talk) 20:08, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Vabalt. Igal administraatoril on failide ümbernimetamise õigus. Taivo (talk) 16:30, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
Siin on mõned üsna kehva nimega failid. Ette tänades, Kruusamägi (talk) 00:12, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

File:WA plate number 1978-1997.jpg & Commons:Deletion requests/File:WA plate number 1978-1997.jpg[edit]

I have no issue over the image quality, however I do with the geolocation data embedded in the image, there is no indication this is the uploaders licence plate given the others they have uploaded, and with that in mind I think it should be either deleted or have the meta data erased and past revisions deleted given the very obvious privacy concerns.

The same goes for :

This is not a privacy issue. The photos show, that a car, which wears that number, was at that time in this place. If you walk on street, then you can see a lot of cars, which are in certain time in certain place, and nobody considers showing car license plate in public place a privacy issue. On the contrary, license plates are made for showing them in public places. Taivo (talk) 08:58, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Deletion request followup[edit]

Hi,

I left a comment regarding a deletion request you were involved in at Billinghurst's talk page. (I notice you were the person who originally noted that the file was in use, but as far as I can tell the article was- and still is- deleted as I originally claimed.)

Would appreciate your feedback. All the best, Ubcule (talk) 19:46, 22 June 2014 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Catalogue 1933 Portieux.jpg[edit]

Sir,

You have apparently decided to delete the following file:Cristallerie de Portieux decanter & glasses.jpg, which I had uploaded.

This represents our own work, and therefore, I see no reason why you did so. Any explanation you would give would be appreciated and naturally we expect that you will reinstate the wrongly deleted file.

regards, Chaanara (talk) 08:12, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Artist, who draw this in 1933, is almost surely dead. You say, that this represents "our" work – who is this "we"? If you are copyright holder of the image, please send OTRS-permission, explain the situation and the file will be restored. Waiting time is said to be approximately one day. No need to re-upload the file. Taivo (talk) 20:19, 29 June 2014 (UTC)
