Image:Compañía de Jesus Décembre 2007 - Vue de Face.jpg[edit]

Bonjour,

Merci encore,

Antonin Delpeuch < Wetneb (talk) 07:48, 4 July 2008 (UTC) >

Bonne continuation ! Wetneb (talk)

About your Grand Canyon Image[edit]

Hello...I am new to wikimedia commons and got here by way of searching google. I love your image of the Grand Canyon and would love to use it in an upcoming web redesign that I am doing for the Grand Canyon Imax Theatre: http://www.explorethecanyon.com/

This image would basically be the focal point of the site.

I tried reading the license but am really not fully understanding it...I am not very quick when it comes to legal jargon.

So I guess I will just ask personally whether I would be able to use this image freely or not for the redesign. I can provide you full credits within the html of the site.

Hopefully you will answer, if not then I will have to use a sub-par image, I've been searching for quite sometime to find anything close to what you have and I haven't been able to.

- Answer

The license allows you to do whatever you want with this picture as long as you follow some rules. Basically, at the block of text explaining the license of the picture, it is said that you can chose any of the 4 licenses proposed. For example, if you chose to use the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike license version 2.5, you have to follow these rules:

 - You are free to copy, distribute, transmit and adapt the work (my image)
 - You must attribute the work to it's original author (me)
 - You cannot use another license than the ones on the original work (you cannot copyright my picture, or you have to exclude my picture of the copyright if you are copyrighting the web page)
 - You must indicate that the image is under the following license (you can choose the license of your choice):
   1. GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version
   2. Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike license versions 2.5, 2.0, and 1.0

Of course, all these rules are only a way for me to make sure that, as I am releasing freely this image to anyone who wishes to use it, nobody will use it in an inappropriate way (like making money from it, or taking credit for it).

If you are ok with those rules, go ahead and make good usage of my picture. I am very pleased that my picture might be used for something related with the National Geographic as I truly think that it is the best magazine in the world as for the pictures used in it. As well, if you would like to use my other pictures for other web projects you have, feel free to do so, as long as you follow the previous rules.

If all of this seems unclear to you (english is not my mother tongue), just tell me the usage you want to do of my picture and I'll give you the OK if it seems fine to me.

Contact me on this page if you have any other questions.

Martin

Question 2 -----------------

Thank you for replying so quickly! I'm just going to ask you and make sure you are ok with how I am using the image. I haven't shown the client this so I am not sure if it will be accepted...but I think, given that this is a site for the IMAX movie and the grand canyon that this is the best direction to go. The following will give you a good idea exactly how I am going to use your image (of coarse I will execute it much better than this...I was making sure it would work). http://clients.tc.net/1550/sketches/test/index.html I did remove some of the people from the image, If you would like I can keep them in it, I might anyway as it really gives the user a good feel for exactly how large the grand canyon is.

If this is ok with you then my only real question is where and how would you like to be attributed?

Shane

sorry I didn't leave my name last time I work for TravelCLICK (www.travelclick.net) and also do projects on the side www.nonstoprobot.com

- Answer

I was not able to follow the link you provided. As for my image, you are allowed to modify it as you wish to, if it can better fill your needs.

As for the attribution, if "Courtesy of Martin St-Amant" could appear when you place the mouse over the picture and the copyright information appears in the html, it would please me. Of course, if you think the appearance of "Courtesy of Martin St-Amant" might not please your client, just have it appear in the html.

Any other questions?

Martin

- answer

Nope...that is all I needed...thanks again...now all I need is for the client to sign the contract and go along with what I am envision :)

Thank you so much and I'll keep you posted

Shane

Question. Please answer.[edit]

Dear S23678. I wanted to use one of your photos (Pont de Brooklyn) on the webpage for my company (legal services). Do you mind it? How would i do it in comliance with licensing rights? Can i attribute it to you, by placing your name in the corner of the images?

Thank you.

  • Answer : You are free to use my image (and encouraged to do so) to illustrate your webpage. The copyrights basically prevents you to do any money from my image without my consent, and allows anyone else to use my image on your website at their will as well. So, yes, by putting something like "Courtesy of Martin St-Amant - Wikipedia", and by not claiming that you own rights on the image, you are in compliance with the license. This is just to ensure I provide free images in Wikipedia without having someone using it after to make money, as simple as that. Can you send me the link to your webpage once it's completed after? Thank you --S23678 (talk) 04:44, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Follow up question. Please answer[edit]

Thank you for your courtesy. Out of consistancy, would you mind if i attribute it to you by writing: " Photo by Martin St-Amant"

It is my pleasure to send you the link. However, i want to send it to your e-mail if possible. How can i do so? My e-mail is sell2010@gmail.com

Thank you.

Sergio2009 (talk) 20:02, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
  • " Photo by Martin St-Amant" is totally fine for me. I will send you an e-mail from my e-mail account. --S23678 (talk) 02:11, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Use of your Las Lajas Cathedral Image[edit]

Hi

This is to inform you that I have used this image in my Travelogue and have given due credit to you and have also linked to the wiki source page of the image.

Las Lajas Sanctuary

Thank you for sharing it under Creative Commons.

To avoid hotlinking to Wikipedia I downloaded higher resolution image, reduced it to 500px width and uploaded to Picasaweb server before using it in my Travelogue. Hope it is OK.

The travelogue is a non-profit ads free blog which I have created as a pastime and I do not derive any monetary benefit from it.

Dear Mr. St-Amant, I am putting an online site for selling art reproductions. I know that copyright prevent me making money from your image without your consent. I also know that I can buy a lot of images on specialized sites. However, I am in love with your photos and I wish them both into the new site. Currently, our site (http://www.lapittorica.it/) is an online presentation of our catalog and is not an e-commerce. We print 12 color plotter and also with reactive ink (to get a very wide range of colors). But in two months will put an online e-commerce site with the name of effectart.it for sale in Italy. On this site we would like to enter your photos for playback on different materials: photographic paper, canvas, etc.. I think many would like to have a giant poster of your work. I could recognize you for royalties, but we print on request. Or can you tell me what to do. If I can not have permission to use the picture, please let me know as soon as possible.

Dear Martin,

I would like to use your lovely shot of the Scarlet Macaws in Peru on "Book Drum," the literary website, for my profile of Joseph Heller's _Catch-22_. The author gives a very minor character the name "Popinjay," which is a somewhat archaic English slang term that has its roots in the German word for "parrot." Here is the location:
