Charles Sprague Pearce (1851-1914) |
|
1882 |
Moments of Thoughtfulness |
Private |
In this 1882 painting by C.S.Pearce there is a black-haired thoughtful little girl. She is into the wild, it has her arms resting on a tree branch. The girl wears a Ciociaro costume, this may suggest that it may be in the Roman Campagna, but the green vegetation, and especially the mill in the upper part of the painting says otherwise. Maybe she is the daughter of one of the many families that from the Ciociaria had emigrated to France in the 19th century. This can also be proven by the artist signature that locates the painting in Paris.
