JP Den Tex (Arnhem, 1950) is a Dutch singer/songwriter (https://www.cavalier-musicmanagement.com/en/artists/jp-den-tex/). His first notable musical adventure was in the mid 70’s as a member of Tortilla (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQTnrSiGCYE ), a legendary Dutch band whose music would now be described as alt.country. Later, in the 80’s, Den Tex recorded some critically acclaimed pop albums. In 1998 he went back to his rootsy origins, releasing a soulful break-up album “Emotional Nomads”. “Painstakingly honest, that’s how I’d like to be” JP wrote in the CD booklet. Film director and producer Jindra Markus (https://www.filmfestival.nl/en/person/jindra-markus) long time associate and co-worker of famous Dutch director Paul Verhoeven) made a documentary of the creative process and the musicians involved. It was released in the international art house circuit in 2004. After the turn of the century Den Tex began focusing on storytelling, reviving the old seventies idea of the concept album. American Tune (2009, also released in the US & UK https://www.jp-den-tex.com/press-eng/) was later adapted to the stage and became a successful theater production (with guitarist Yvonne Ebbers). While the bohemian love story of Wolf! (2017) hearkened back to American folk music of the fifties and sixties. On his latest album “The Starlight Adventure” (2022) JP took the listener to his own continent: the song cycle tells the tale of a harrowing love story, set around a traveling European vaudeville company at the beginning of the nineties.
