Photography Background[edit]

I started my photography as a hobby when I was school in the 1980s, learning through practice and with the help of a couple of good books and magazines.

Luckily, my school, Stonyhurst College had a well-equipped dark room which. nobody had used in years, so I adopted it and proceeded to spend most of my free time developing and printing black and white images of sport and the local landscapes.

At university (Durham) i also had access to a darkroom and was able to start selling my work to both the student newspaper and the local papers in the north east of England. My first published images were of rowing and rugby, but in my third year I was involved in the archaeological excavation of the Durham Botanical Gardens, and photos of mine were used widely.

Having graduated and completed a PGCE in London I started my first job as a science teacher at Dover College, where I was mentored by the Head of History, another keen photographer. Between us we did all the school's team photos and PR photography of events etc. but then my photography saw a hiatus as I concentrated on further jobs at Kings Canterbury and Clickstream Technologies.

In 2006 I was introduced to someone who asked me to photograph a local equestrian event which proved very popular. I was forced to set up a web site and e-commerce in order to satisfy requests for images from that and subsequent events.

The following year I had some images published by a regional equestrian magazine, which led me to be join a team of event photographers who paid me a wage to work for them. I still work for one of the people who recruited me at this point.

Published Work[edit]

I have had work published all over the World and had cover images used over 50 times. Many books use my work, as do famous titles like Horse & Hound, The Field, Country Life and many equine titles too obscure to list here.
