Re:Kvinitadze[edit]

Hi Geagea. Well, that's a tough question. :) Kvinitadze was a commander three times, in 1919, 1920 and 1921. The National Archives website does not indicate the data of that photo. I don't really know. :( --Kober (talk) 16:37, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Thanks for tidying my talkpage up. : )) --Kober (talk) 16:38, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
P.S.S. I have just noticed the German comment on that photo. German troops were present in Georgia in 1918. So it's perhaps the 1918 photo. --Kober (talk) 16:41, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Probably this guy: Nikolai Baratov, a Russified Georgian general. --Kober (talk) 17:07, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

File renaming[edit]

Hi Geagea, thanks for offering to help renaming files. Before renaming files, please review the relevant policies for file moving. These are:
According to current language policy, File:Tiflis1.jpg should not be translated to English. Please avoid doing such renames in the future.
If you are not sure about the meaning or spelling of non-English names and terms, you might want to leave these files for other users to rename. -- User:Docu at 09:44, 10 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Gia, thank's for information :) But I'm late unfortunately.. They say that last day was Apr1l, the first, and it's already 20-th of June :) But I promise I'll draw it as soon as it appears :) Thank's again!

P.S. Sorry for quality, I'll try to re-shoot this picture - unfortunately it's already printed you see...--Gaeser (talk) 04:25, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

Re:Maps[edit]

Hi Gea. I noticed the removal of Andersen's map. That's not good. His maps are fairly accurate and handsome. I'll try to contact him as soon as possible and will ask to email a standard permission for his maps. --Kober (talk) 15:56, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Thank's Gia! I'll check.--George Mel (talk) 16:53, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Gia. So I made some inquires and asked David. So, this flag isn't Kartli Kakhetian. It isn't even Georgian. There is an Atlas of flags, where is written that this is the flag of Coricos. Someone thought that it was Gorigos, the name of Guria and said, that this was a flag of Western Georgia. Some fellows seem to have gone farther and given this flag to Kartli-Kakheti :) In reality, this is flag of Coricos, a region in Cilicia. I don't even know what to do with this flag. I will draw the flag of George N12 and will upload it - you'll see, that there is nothing common with this one :) P.S. Any ideas what to do with this art?--George Mel (talk) 17:36, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Rechecked it together with David once again - so - it is definitely not Kartli Kakheti. He has found this map, so this is a flag of Samegrelo. --George Mel (talk) 18:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Definitely yes :)--George Mel (talk) 18:33, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Re: File:Bolnisicross.jpg[edit]

If it gets deleted, your removal is redunant, and if it doesn't, you made an image description worse. I see no upside. As for File:Raising of Lazarus.jpg, the attribution template is redundant, yes. PD-Art makes it free anyway. Best Hekerui (talk) 20:28, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

File:Giorgi LATSABIDZE Photo taken in 1979.JPG[edit]

I haven't seen this file, but I feel it was wrongly speedy deleted. It could not be an "exact or scaled down duplicate" of File:Giorgi Latasabidze 1979 retouched.JPG, because File:Giorgi Latasabidze 1979 retouched.JPG in fact is a retouched version, based on File:Giorgi LATSABIDZE Photo taken in 1979.JPG. Speedy deletion is only for _really exact_ duplicates. Trycatch (talk) 11:36, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes I agree. they were same size. What do you suggest? undelete? Geagea (talk) 16:25, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I think better to undelete this. Generally originals are kept, even if better derivative exists -- it's possible that an original photograph will be useful for someone to create another derivative work. Trycatch (talk) 16:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
O.k. thanks. Geagea (talk) 16:45, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, as an admin can you take care of the new Hebrew WP featured article icon?

File:Article1 B.svg will replace File:Article1 B.jpg, and needs to be protected. For the .jpg, the "needs to be vectorized" should be replaced with "vector version available". For the .svg, "hebrew WP protected" template, categorization and stuff. Setreset (talk) 11:35, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Geagea. No, these are different churches. this one was named after St. Nicholas. It was located somewhere around this place. It was destroyed by the Communists. What, no they aren't. They're on Flickr under Attribution 2.0 license.

Hi Geagea. I know the photo has a watermark from fotolog, but I uploaded it anyway because I founded enough information to believe that it's the same person who took the pictures and uploaded it on fotolog and flickr: you can see the models of the cameras indicated are the same on both sites, the users are from the same place, and furthermore the pictures on Flickr have better quality that those uploaded on fotolog. It takes me to think there is no copyright violation. Lobo (howl?) 04:31, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Images from Vruir Galstian page[edit]

Hi Gaegea I want to know why were deleted images from Vruir Galstian page, the artist is my father and I want to know where was my mistake. Most of images I scanned from Artist's book, some were scanned by other people and placed in other pages, and I copy them, but I don't think that I don't have permission to upload my fathers paintings images. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Belinda77 (talk • contribs) 00:30, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Paintings deletion reason was: Art work of Vruir Galstian (1924-1996), Armenian painter died in 1996. The deletion respects Vruir Galstian rights and nobady can upload them without geting permission from him or his successors in this case. If you are his paintings rights Holder and you release those rights to any purpes including commercial then send permission to OTRS and all the files will recover. File:Vruirbook.jpg deleted from the reason: Book cover of Henrik Igityan (died 2009). From http://www.abrilbooks.com/books/949.html . In this case you have to get permission from the successors of Henrik Igityan. Geagea (talk) 22:45, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Filemover rights[edit]

Hi Geagea,

You have recently attributed to me the right of filemover, thanks. But I fail to understand in what that power consists exactly. I have two specific questions:

  1. What prevents any user of using the "CommonsDelinker Replace command" (or other commands of the type)? I've tried as a IP user and it seemed to work;
  2. Why isn't the "move" tab mentioned in Commons:File renaming not visible in the image files (or any other file)? Do I still have to do anything to implement the filemover right?

Thanks for your attention, Alvesgaspar (talk) 13:42, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

The file mover rights let you the possibility to rename the file name of any file in Commons. This option are not available to other users. However, renaming of files have to follow Commons policies. Files allowed to rename only one or more of 6 reasons that mentioned in Commons:File renaming.
Technically you can rename files of other users that have the tag {{Rename}} (Category:Media requiring renaming) and follow the instructions or to make move with the move tab. Usually you use move tab to rename your own upload files with the reason: Uploader requested. The move tab have to appear together with "View", "Edit, "View history", "Watchlist" and "move". It maybe hide with the other options that you might have like "Global usage" or others if you choose them in your preferences. Please made double check.
The thing that prevents any user of using the "CommonsDelinker Replace command" is the fact that User:CommonsDelinker/commands protected and can be edited only by admins. Other that want to use the command including file-movers have to use User talk:CommonsDelinker/commands. The admin that moving it to action have to check the requests. If you see any Inappropriate using of CommonsDelinker please report it.

Good luck. Geagea (talk) 21:57, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

  • Thank you so much for your help. Yes, now I think I understand but will proceed with caution. I asked for the right mainly for renaming my own species pictures but I realize now that most of them are used in sister wikis. Well, I'll feel free to ask you again in case of doubts :) Alvesgaspar (talk) 22:15, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Yes, feel free to to ask. Geagea (talk) 22:24, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Re: File:LucaGuastini 00.jpg[edit]

Hello Geagea,

as you can see I'm an OTRS operator. I asked the author more details and a proof of her identity. She provided both data and now the authorization is valid, she has assumed responsibility for the declaration. The main problem was the lack of knowledge about licensing by her and the fact that image was transferred form it.wiki before a valid OTRS permission. If you look at the page history you can see that the first request of remove for invalid ticket was posted by me. I see that yuo have not access to OTRS so if you want you can ask some other OTRS operator to verify the ticket for you. I've also restored the image on it.wiki and I've putted the link on the talk of the image. Thanks :) --Abisys (talk) 22:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Few problems.
First. The photo in the source that provided is smaller then the photo in wikipedia\commons. This site can not be the source of the photo.
Is greater because I asked her to show that the was the photografer an sh send us an image with exif data from her camera.
second. Azzurra Rocchi is an actress that play with Luca Guastini in one of his movies. I do not see any evidence that she is the photographer. It look to me more as a screen shoot of movie.
She gives us her address and telefon number I've verified them so is her problem if the declaration is false but the image cannot be a sceenshot because exif data are the same of Azzurra Rocchi camera.
Third. After File:LucaGuastini 00.jpg deleted in the first time, the uploader upload it again with the name File:LucaGuastini.jpg as a free Flickr file by his own Flickr account (Flickr washing). Then he opened new Flickr account with the name Azzurra Rocchi and release it again as free (that's double Flickr washing). This behavior casts doubt on all the details that given. It is also posibility that the email that sended to OTRS is by uploader himself.
I asker her a telefon number just to verify her identity
In conclusion, No evidence that www.teatro.org is the source as the file is smaller. No evidence that Azzurra Rocchi is the photographer and No evidence that Azzurra Rocchi send the email to OTRS. The uploader already posed as Azzurra Rocchi in the Flickr account.
She says that she provided the photo to teatro.org and in effect she has the original image with correct exif. I asked her what digital camera have you? Replay: Nikon D90. Look at the metadata http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:LucaGuastini_00.jpg. So for me is enought. All this discussion are in the body of the ticket.

Hi, I had send a notification to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org by provide the link.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Khindmis (talk • contribs) 03:40, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

You have to ask permission by sending an email to the site (see Commons:Email templates). After you sent the mail, sent a copy ot it to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. After that you can add {{OTRS pending}} to the files that you ask permission for them. More instractions or questions you can ask in Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. Geagea (talk) 00:50, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Changing «own photo» to external link and adding «no permission»[edit]

Hello! This your edit looks rather strange for me. Armen Asatryan uploaded photo to his livejournal, after that he uploaded his photo to commons and wrote «source = собственное фото» («source = own photo»). You changed «собственное фото» to http://armen-hay.livejournal.com/91770.html and add no permission since. I always thought, that it is not obligatory to add appropriate permission to all other web-resources with own photos, if uploading is making by the author. I think, there are some cases, when I firstly uploaded my photos to some another resources and after that to commons. I you say, that I have to add permission in all resources with my photos, I will be amazed. Dinamik (talk) 21:07, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Agree and reverted. Geagea (talk) 21:12, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Anyway I agree those cases that the author claims that he is the photographer but in cases whan the source is the site he have to provide OTRS permission. Geagea (talk) 21:20, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm just curious, but how did you locate the examples you pointed me to here? Was it stalking Special:Contributions/FlickreviewR or something else? VernoWhitney (talk) 19:54, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

I was going to ask you a general question about Flickr washing when one of the photos emerged of thet user. When I checked the Flickr account I realized that it is washing Flickr so decided to ask you for educational purpose. Unfortunately I find latly too much Flickr washing attampts and not enough attention or understanding (or even unknowing) by the reviewrers of the possibility of Flickr washing. I never checked Special:Contributions/FlickreviewR. Only the last uploades and Category:Flickr images needing human review and the more important I awaer to the posibility. If the Flickr account contains only few photos or uploaded in the last hour the photos are probebly Flickr washing. Good luck. Geagea (talk) 20:36, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Flickr washing[edit]

Hello Geagea, you recently deleted a few images as you believed that I am 'Flickr washing'. However, I actually know the user on Flickr called sevda_gul87. I personally asked her to upload her photos onto Flickr so that I could upload them onto wikimedia commons. If the images are unfree can you please show me which website they came from? I honestly did not mean to do anything wrong. Turco85 (talk) 10:28, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

The files deleted as a copyvio from www.bursaburada.com. You can try to get permission from them and sent it to OTRS. It realy looked suspicious as the photo from other site uloaded to new Flickr user and shortly after that uploade to Commons. Next time when you want to ask for permission do it according to the instruction in OTRS. Questions you can ask in the OTRS Noticeboard. On the same occasion please check again File:En Derin.jpg and see if it should be delete also. Thanks for your cooperation. Geagea (talk) 01:29, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

File:St_Queen_Ketevan.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Belated reply[edit]

Hello Geagea. How are you? I'm so sorry for being so late. I've been so overloaded with real life things this time. Got a baby girl. Now I'm a dad. :) Regarding your inquires,

1.

2. All images from that manuscript are anonymous, probably by an invited Iranian artist or a Georgian adherent of the Iranian miniature school.

3. No difference between ვეფხვი and ვეფხი. The latter is an archaic version of the word, still used in some Georgian dialects, mainly in Pshavi and Khevsureti. According to Rustaveli's text, the tiger was a female, so the French translation panthère is more accurate, I think. I don't really know why they chose a male equivalent in the Russian translation.

4. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is of chveneburi origin, a descendant of the muhajir from the Batumi Province.

Best regards, --Kober (talk) 06:49, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

The issue is, File:Giannoulias Headshot.jpg, File:Emmer-headshot.jpg, and File:Tom Horner.jpg are all copyright violation and overdue for deletion. I was wondering can you please delete it for me. Thanks, Aaaccc (talk), 28 December 2010 (UTC)

All those files already tagged with no permission. they will be deleted with the others in categories like this. From my experience files deleted faster when they are not in use. All the files will be deleted when admins find time according to there priorities. Those files are in use so they are needed, may be you can spend some time to permission insted notify admins of undeleted NPD's. Geagea (talk) 22:37, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Categories like that from a year ago have yet to be deleted which is why I informed you directly, in attempt to speed up the proccess. Also all these photos are from campaign websites that were taken down after the elections, so finding permission for them will be impossible. Aaaccc (talk), 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Again. There is no need to inform me. I already know they are exsist. And you dont have to finding permission but to ask permission. Read OTRS. Geagea (talk) 22:54, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the filemover welcome![edit]

Just a lil’ thanks for the filemover welcome – the small courtesies that make a difference!

Flickr questions[edit]

Hi Geagea, I was wondering, if a photo is uploaded to Flickr to by a Member of Congress as a way of sharing photos of there Congressional activity do these photos then become public domain/official works of the member? Also is a photo is uploaded but the copyright later changes can the photo be cropped and re-uploaded? Thanks for your time. Aaaccc (talk), 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for the late comment. Member of Congress can release photos to public domain only if he took the photos.
about the second part of your question copyright later changes . Once the released to public domain, the photo is in public domain. If the photo uploaded to Commons before the change of license and passed Flickr review by automatic bot or by reviewers then we will keep the file and add {{Flickr-change-of-license}} tag. But if the file did not pass Flickr review before the change of license then it will deleted from Commons. So one of the reasons we use {{Flickrreview}} that says that in the same date the file was in public domain. Geagea (talk) 17:38, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia-logo-v2-ka (New Year).png[edit]

Hi Gia, this logo instead of the traditional one, if it's possible :) Thank you beforehand!--George, 19:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Maps by Hanß Georg Bodenehr[edit]

Hi Geagea, you've added the maps by Hanß Georg Bodenehr to Category:Abraham Ortelius. I've rollbacked all this as these are maps by Bodenehr (as properly indicated in the description) and not by Ortelius. Please do not be tricked by the nickname of the Flickr user who uploaded all this. Best wishes for the new year, AFBorchert (talk) 12:46, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing it and Happy New Year. Geagea (talk) 17:37, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Category:1872 maps[edit]

Please don't use the map author's birth year as the date of the map! AnonMoos (talk) 03:44, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

I apologize for marking two of 70 files with wrong category. Geagea (talk) 04:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

unclear closure reason[edit]

Hi, here you deleted an image with trhe comment to see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kernel Georgia.PNG. Could you expand on your reasoning? Which part of that discussion applies? User Kameraad Pjotr closed it with the comment "out of project scope", is that your reason too? -84user (talk) 22:55, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, out of project scope. Exacly the same issue. Geagea (talk) 22:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Re:Interesting[edit]

Just great! Pay attention to the French note above the fortifications on the map. It appears to be the only contemporary illustration of the Great Abkhazian Wall, built by the Dadiani to deter the Abkhaz raids. The construction of the wall is claimed by modern Abkhaz nationalists, but this contemporary note makes it clear that the wall was built to stop the Abkhaz. Thanks so much for your excellent work. --Kober (talk) 05:34, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Re:Toreli[edit]

Hi. The dynastic name Toreli had died out by the 15th century. Henceforth they - more precisely a line thereof - were known as Javakhishvili. Hence the Toreli cannot be counted as knyaz. The name did not survive that long.--Kober (talk) 15:11, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah. [9] :). Arrian appears to have referred to the eastern portion of the Black Sea around the mouth of the Phasis this way.--Kober (talk) 17:15, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Zolokin,
Geagea (talk) 23:08, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Deletion request[edit]

Hello Geagea, seven days have passed after opening Commons:Deletion requests/File:Javakhk Armenians Flag.svg and the file is not in use too. Btw, there is another File:Flag of Javakhk.jpg. Should we open another deletion request or you can delete it right now? :-) –BruTe Talk 15:37, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I made my opinion there. Usually DR's on a base of "out of project scope" takes more time. So we have to be patient until it will deleted. The secound flag look like same kind of case. I dropped question in the uploader talk page. It have to pass through new DR unless the uploader request by himself to delete it :) Geagea (talk) 01:16, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok Geagea, I see. :-) –BruTe Talk 07:27, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Travelgeorgia.ru[edit]

Dear Geagea, I noticed that you have added {{LicenseReview}} to a couple of images that originate from the website http://travelgeorgia.ru/ (e.g. File:Daryal Gorge.jpg). This website however states at the bottom of all its pages that its content is published under cc-by-sa-3.0. The license review is meant for files from sites with multiple licenses: License reviewing is a necessary process for files from Flickr, Picasa, Panoramio, and other external websites that provide images under different licenses (COM:LR). I wil therefore remove the licensereview-templates from files from travelgeorgia.ru and set the license to cc-by-sa-3.0. I hope you agree. Kind regards, Lymantria (talk) 15:12, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, it's o.k with me. Only one photographer with the same camera. Thanks for updating me. Geagea (talk) 04:44, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

File talk:Coat of Arms of the Bagrationi Dynasty.svg[edit]

I could not warn the user over the image because I have warred with him several times (and always seem to get into his conflicts). Protect was the only thing I could do. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 19:22, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

I didn't meant to criticize you. I criticize the user. He didnt get any warning (I didnt see any official warning in his talk page) and still complained. When I was new admin I made similar thing with a user and protect page for a week to avoide his block, but criticized for that. I dont think that it a bad idea to protect file for short period to avoide block of user but Commons ruls not mention this among the reason for protection. We have to warn the user first and block him afterwards. Geagea (talk) 05:05, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
But I am so heavily involved, I cannot do much. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:09, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
O.k. I'll take care of it. Meanwhile, it seems to be quiet and you alredy unprotect the file so no need for action. If I see more edit war in that file I'll worn the user as a final warning. Geagea (talk) 06:20, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Make that for any file for Fry; this is not the first edit war I seen him do in 2011. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 06:21, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok. Geagea (talk) 06:23, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Info[edit]

Hi Gia, have a look at page #41 in printed edition, page #22 in .pdf. P.S. one of the best books I've ever had. :)--George, 20:50, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

File:Kelyje link Akhaltsikheės.jpg[edit]

Hi - I'm a bit lost: why did you remove Category:Akhaltsikhe and why did you add Category:Armenia? According to the author, the place is near Akhaltsikhe...
Sardur (talk) 18:25, 7 March 2011 (UTC)

The Google Translate says: On the way towards Akhaltsikheės. Giedrelio and Laurie photo. It can not be Category:Akhaltsikhe as it only On the way towards. I dont know the place. I understand from the continuity of the photos that the place is in Armenia. I might be wrong, so if you know the place please correct the data. Geagea (talk) 03:32, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
I don't know it, but I have not seen a photograph of such a place in Armenia. Mystery... Sardur (talk) 06:44, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
It looks a lot like File:Хертвиси с севера, крупно.jpg. Sardur (talk) 06:52, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Yes, it's Khertvisi. In the same area. Thanks. Geagea (talk) 07:25, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

User:Boch-boris[edit]

Any reasons to believe that Boris Bocharnikov here and Boris Bocharnikov at yandex is not the same person? ([10]) ? I don't think so (although his files are DR firewood anyway). NVO (talk) 07:39, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

  • Based on his user profile at yandex [11] and on his modus operandi here and at ru-wiki, I'm confident that it's the same person. Reverted your copyvio tag - please proceed through regular deletion channel if you feel like it. NVO (talk) 07:47, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for informing me. Geagea (talk) 13:34, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Help[edit]

Hello Geagea. I've got a question for you. My cousin allowed me to upload dozens of photos she took in the Borjomi gorge and Samstkhe-Javakheti last year. How can her permission be used on Commons? As far as I know she should send an email, but I don't remember the exact policy. Can you please help me with that? --Kober (talk) 15:09, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

Many thanks, Geagea. Now that this fake flag is removed, what to do with its duplicates [12], [13]? --Kober (talk) 15:56, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
