Barry Friedman is a retired Orthopaedic Surgeon who served in the US Navy in World War II. He served as the Medical Officer aboard the USS Russel DD 414 in the Pacific, which earned 16 battle stars and fought in practically every major battle in the Pacific arena.

After his retirement he began writing and to date has written 12 books, 10 fiction and 2 non-fiction. One of theses books Survivor:USS Russell A World War II Destroyer, chronicles his experience as the Medical Officer aboard the USS Russell in World War II.
