Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid[edit]

Dag, Antoine.01. Is er een verschil tussen Institute for Sound and Vision en Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision? Groet, Eissink (talk) 15:39, 28 March 2021 (UTC).

Eissink (talk) 16:56, 28 March 2021 (UTC).
Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 17:10, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

MetaCat[edit]

May I ask what's the reason for putting MetaCat on the top? I have three reasons against: (1) it's visually worse, (2) it's less practical, (3) the vast majority of countries do not have it on top. --Orijentolog (talk) 14:50, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Better to put a warning at the top and it looks neater! Kind regards Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 15:34, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Seems like it's subjective in both cases (yours and mine). Anyway, my advice is to leave it as it is, in minor cases I found it on top and I was not changing. --Orijentolog (talk) 17:37, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
That is true, many people have different insights! And what is the best of that, because everyone thinks their idea is the best!? Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 22:02, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Haha, I don't. You're free to open new categories with your desired arrangement, but I disagree with changing existing ones due to the point (3), even it's argumentum en masse. Thousands of Iran-related MetaCat categories have countries on top and MetaCat template below, so I don't like exceptions. You can think that my idea is s***, but remember that billions of flies eat s*** and nobody is trying to stop them. Fair enough? :) --Orijentolog (talk) 02:40, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Fortunately people don't stop the flies because they are not the problem but the s**** is the problem. People in the Netherlands know that all too well with a huge amount of livestock. That is why warnings at the top can help to do something about it together. Just like in traffic, signs can help you drive safely by placing them high so you can see them clearly. Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 11:15, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Country templates are thin so MetaCat warning signs are very visible. Speaking of aesthetics (i.e. first point above), I like to see templates in form of inverted pyramid, means countries as first, see also as second (both 100% wide), then MetaCat and templates like FOP-buildings-category warning (both 80% wide). Other solutions are IMHO messy and ugly. --Orijentolog (talk) 20:26, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
True, pyramid shapes are beautiful, but upside down I think they are ugly. That is why I think that many people do not apply it that way to Commons. Even uglier are two country templates with in between the MetaCat what some people do. It is better for everyone to have a fixed guideline. That's a lot neater for Commons instead of everyone doing it their own way! Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 14:29, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi there. When you add {WI} to a cat, a bot changes it to {Wikidata Infobox}, and rather quickly; so that is no problem. I use it for practical reasons. OTOH, you should perhaps re-consider if it is nice to use exclamation marks anywhere, as people may take it as a sign of anger... Be well. Regards. --E4024 (talk) 20:31, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Hello E4024, I didn't know that a bot {WI} turns it into {Wikidata Infobox}. Nor did I know that there was already an article by Nilüfer Gündoğan. And the reason I used an exclamation mark was how you reacted. It came across as quite reproachful. Kind regards, Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 21:07, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
I do not know what reproachful means. The only thing I am trying to do in Commons is to be useful (to the project) and also teach what I know to others (be useful to colleagues), to help them. I wish I had met someone like me when I began here (or before, in WPs) to show me the things they knew. For example: While I say (today) to people that they have to add a {WI} to the new cats they open, at the same time I discover cats I opened without doing that, in my previous years, and correct them, just as I did in Category:Vakit a few minutes ago... E4024 (talk) 21:25, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
I too try to be useful, so we both try to contribute something. Yet it Thanks you wanted to help! Kind regards again, Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 21:44, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Jordi Cruijff[edit]

Wikidatist (talk) 19:13, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Category:Capsanthines[edit]

Are there more capsanthines than this one? Shouldn't the name of this category be Category:Capsanthine? Wostr (talk) 20:55, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

People want everything in the plural on commons, for me it is allowed in the singular. But usually someone else changes it in the plural I've already experienced that several times. Look at the other categories in the Category:Capsanthines that are also in the plural: Category:Food colorings - Category:Carotenoids - Category:Enones - Category:Diols - Category:Cyclic alcohols - Category:Cycloalkenes - Category:Pigments? Antoine.01overleg(Antoine) 23:15, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
This is because other categories you mentioned are about classes of chemical compounds and not about specific chemical compounds. Category:Carotenoids is in plural, because it contains files about a class of compounds, Category:Apocarotenal, Category:Bixin, Category:Crocetin and Category:Norbixin are in singular, because these categories contain files about specific chemical compounds. I'll move Category:CapsanthinesCategory:Capsanthine then. Wostr (talk) 17:48, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
