Graves of Honour of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime (German Democratic Republic)

Hi, I notice that you renamed the category "Groves of Honour of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime (German Democratic Republic)" to "Graves of Honour of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime (German Democratic Republic)", believing that this was a typo. Actually it wasn't. I was trying to create a category for the type of cemetery called "Ehrenhain" by the authorities of the German Democratic Republic, where every single grave was a grave of honour ("Ehrengrab"). At the same time, not every grave with Ehrengrab status is also located in an Ehrenhain. Any suggestions how this issue with naming the category may resolved? Sorry for the confusion, I understand the issue but I don't know the exact translation. But then shouldn't it be in singular form "Grove of Honour"? Or simply create the category with its German name. Regards --A.Savin 18:12, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
As I have understood it, this category was intended not only for a single "Ehrenhain", but for "Ehrenhain" as a type of locality.
In WM Commons, types of localities, as well as types of buildings, are generally marked by plurals.
Example: German Wikipedia has a de:Kategorie:Gotische Kirche: (grammatical singular) for all articles on single Gothic churches. In WM Commons, the category containing the images of each such Gothic church is housed under the mother category:Gothic churches.--Ulamm (talk) 07:01, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes, indeed I intended to create a category for "Ehrenhain as a type of locality", as an example of a specific funerary culture promoted by the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Of course, iot would be possible to use the German term - Ehrenhain für Verfolgte des Naziregimes - but would this be understood internationally? Particularly as, under GDR usage, Verfolgte des Naziregimes referred to a specific group of people who had been granted that status by the GDR authorities and was not simply synonymous with "anyone who had suffered persecution by the Nazi Regime". Перенаправление

Здравствуйте. Подскажите, зачем нужно удалять перенаправление Category:Karaimskaya Street (Eupatoria)? Mitte27 (talk) 03:35, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Если честно, не могу понять смысл таких сложных перенаправлений. Перенаправления оставляют для облегчения поиска категории, но в данном (и похожих) случае если кто-то ищет Караимскую улицу, просто вводит Karaimskaya в поисковую маску и там обычно высвечивается верное название категории. --A.Savin 07:49, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
При поиске категории Category:Karaimskaya Street (Eupatoria) (до удаления) необходимая категория Category:Karaimskaya Street (Yevpatoria) нам бы сразу подставилась. Кроме того, ссылки на перенаправления могут существовать на сторонних ресурсах, да и насколько я понимаю, запрета на такого типа перенаправления нет. --Mitte27 (talk) 02:12, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Район Братеево не назван в честь. Вот МГУ назван в честь Ломоносова, или вот закон Бойля—Мариотта назван в честь Бойля и Мариотта. А район Братеево просто назван так, не в честь кого-нибудь или чего-нибудь ещё. Что касается села и района, то у них одно одинаковое название, подобно тому, как у станции метро Китай-Город и у района Китай-Город одинаковое название. @PereslavlFoto: Коллега, словосочетание "named after" переводится не только как "назван в честь", но и, например, как "назван по". Теперь будете в курсе. Вот несколько примеров из англовики [5] ("The district is named after the village of Alexeyevo"), [6] ("The district is named after the Liangzi Lake"), [7] ("The district is named after the town of Jalaun"). На мой взгляд, здесь такой порядок.
— Former villages in Russia -> Brateyevo
— 1960 disestablishments in Russia -> Brateyevo
— Brateyevo -> Brateyevo District
— Brateyevo -> Things named after Brateyevo
— Municipal divisions of Moscow -> Brateyevo District
— Southern Administrative Okrug -> Brateyevo District

Eine Umbenennung wäre hier denke ich nötig, da die Parkanlage ja in Wilhelmstadt liegt und nicht in Spandau (bei Berlin-Spandau geht es ja um den Ortsteil, nicht um den Bezirk). Schöne Wochenende :)! Well, I don't see a case for such an exception here. If File:Station Charleroi-Zuid Naam.jpg is in the Category:Charleroi-Sud train station and the Category:Charleroi-Sud train station is in the Category:Train stations named south station, I don't see any point in adding the File:Station Charleroi-Zuid Naam.jpg straight to the Category:Train stations named south station, too: a classical OVERCAT case. As mentioned in the edit summary, we currently lack a subcategory at Category:Train stations named south station for signs illustrating such a name. A random image from the subcategories wont help you illustrate "south station". The sub-categories just help you find such stations. Classical Angela Merkel problem, I think. If you have a search I can use that would have found it instead, I'd happy to reconsider. We could create a subcategory or just add the images there. Enhancing999 (talk) 20:34, 23 October 2022 (UTC)

Images of Turkey

Hi Savin!

I would like to ask your help. One user is constantly replacing the images with a very high contrast on Turkish related pages especially istanbul. An example

Do you know how can we avoid someone changing from single images. even though the article is protected the images are not hence we keep seeing this user touching to the images and the change is not necessary infact. reducing the quality of the image.

Hi FlocciNivis. Yes there is a way. Go to your preferences -> Gadgets. In the "Maintenance tools" section, activate "VisualFileChange". Now go to your contribs, and click on "Perform batch task" at the left. As "action", select "Custom replace". You can mark all files, for "pattern to match" enter the old username, for "Text to insert instead" enter the new username. And click on "Execute". Please check your edits afterwards. Hallo Alex Könntest du dir bei Gelegenheit die neusten Uploads des Nutzers ansehen? Seine aufnahmen der "Zugkollision" sind hier und da etwas bedenklich. Zunächst halte ich die Betitelung für kritisch, da auf den meisten Bildern von einer Zugkollision nichts zu sehen ist. Entsprechend bedenklich ist auch die Kategorisierung. Des Weiteren ist mir aufgefallen, das er etwas in diesem Bild (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Zugkollision_in_Leiferde_Dalldorf_im_November_2022_01.jpg) {{Personality rights}} verwendet. Seitdem ich das Verhalten von C.Suthorn mir (und wohl nicht nur mir) gegenüber als überaus aggressiv und unkooperativ wahrnehmen musste, habe ich keine Lust, mit dieser Person groß über irgendwas zu diskutieren. Meine bescheidene Meinung: Wenn in einem Bild {{Personality rights}} steht, ohne dass dort irgendjemands Persönlichkeitsrechte überhaupt betroffen sind, darf/soll man die Vorlage ruhig entfernen. Wenn ein Bild "Zugkollision" heißt, ohne dass es auch nur annähernd ein solches Ereignis zeigt, darf/soll man das Bild ruhig umbenennen. Und wenn es sich nicht um Einzelfälle handelt, sondern sowas massenhaften Charakter annimmt, sollte man zusätzlich darüber nachdenken, den Benutzer ernsthaft zu verwarnen und bei Uneinsichtigkeit auch entsprechend zu sanktionieren. This file is claimed Own work. Was the mural done by the uploader? This seems like a glaring problem that should have been picked up in the QI review.

And since details matter in QI, I also wonder about the supposed urination (see the file’s categories). I assume this refers to the person standing under the train, facing the wall. How do we know that they are in fact urinating? Does this add to or detract from this photo? Pinging @Trougnouf as uploader. Brianjd (talk) 10:19, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

The picture is my "own work", the mural is the main subject but there is clearly more being depicted there, like the building which is also not designed by the photographer, and there is freedom of panorama in Belgium. The man urinating is my interpretation as a passerby/photographer so I described it as such. It is part of the photograph, whether it adds, detracts, or anything else is subjective and irrelevant. --Trougnouf (talk) 11:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

FP nomination

Hello, not long ago I nominated a diagram I had created for Featured Picture consideration (COM:Featured picture candidates/File:Triton-en.svg). One of the reviewers made a claim that the image was "original research" (not an FP criterion, but whatever) and then later acknowledged that he'd made a mistake but still held his "oppose" position. Other reviewers went with the flow, and you eventually closed the discussion as "not promoted". I am wondering if the image can be given a second chance-- it's a very high quality diagram, easily as high a caliber as many other similar Commons images of planets and moons which have also been featured pictures.
