By state by city subcategory[edit]
I think it would be helpful if the by state by city category wasn't mandated and instead defaulted to in the United States by city when it's not created. I don't think both are needed at the same time. For an example, Category:1942 in Chicago instead of being in both Category:1942 in the United States by city AND in Category:1942 in Illinois by city (when Illinois by city could be subcat of US) should be done as either Illinois by city or if Illinois doesn't exist, then US by city. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:02, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Merging request[edit]
I declined the stale merging request (with template:Detroityear) proposed by user:Varnent, rational: "Ease of maintenance and remove the need to create the missing templates (if any)". My reason is: suspicious, and procedural oppose. Eg we have also template:Chicagoyear--Estopedist1 (talk) 08:56, 16 November 2021 (UTC)
