Whatever goes on this template, it should be based on our policy at Commons:Stock.xchng images, whatever that may be. ed g2stalk 06:30, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Our first obligation is to not mislead our users. Policy can play catchup if it likes, but we *must* do the right thing now. --Gmaxwell 06:32, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template in direct violation of Commons policy[edit]

This template is in direct violation of current Commons policy on Stock.xchng images, on point 2. By linking to Category:Sxc-warning with the template (category page not done but still shows 1229 images as of writing this), you are making a stock.xchng image gallery within Commons and effectively reproducing the stock.xchng service. Even after removing the category, the template still allows a simple list of all stock.xchng images with the What links here feature, allowing easy reproduction of all stock.xchng images in Commons. Please consider using subst after discussion of the contents of the template.

Dbenbenn removed the category link but his edit was reverted by Gmaxwell. Why? --Para 11:43, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That was inadvertent. Do you realize that the old commons policy pushes a rather twisted view, that the SXC tos is binding enough that we can't cat the images but that we can otherwise ignore it? In any case, we really must keep the category or what links here, otherwise there is no methodological way I can move these images through process.--Gmaxwell 15:03, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see this template was deleted here, but remains in wikipedia: w:Template:Sxc-warning... Bogdan 11:38, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rewording[edit]

I found this template a while ago while browsing through the commons, and I noticed a few things about it:

  • It's long. Does it really need to have the entire SXC boilerplate license included (especially when we also have a direct link to it)?
  • It should be more assertive about what the problems are, say that a license clarification from the author is required, and that the image will be deleted in n days if nothing happens.

What do you think? Lee Cremeans 20:12, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only a few images of the 1200+ are remaining. It will only be kept for historical reference in the near future. Cheers! Siebrand 21:28, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
