Difference between this and Template:Current[edit]

These two templates seem to serve the same purpose (to allow files to be updated with new data, although only Template:Current is mentioned on that page). Is there any difference that I’m missing? If there isn’t, I think they should be merged into one template. 0x9fff00 (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@0x9fff00: {{Recent}} that I created in 2010 is older. The obvious difference is that {{Recent}} categorize a page into Category:Most recent version (which sounds like it is now the most recent version) and {{Current}} categorize a page into Category:Files that need updating (which sounds like it is not the most recent version and needs updating, which is a bit similar to {{Update}}). --Tomchen1989 (talk) 19:06, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, {{Current}} on Commons is now incorrectly link to {{Current}} in other Wikipedia. In Wikipedia, {{Current}} is used for articles documenting a current event. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 19:06, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added some explanation here Template:Recent#See also. --Tomchen1989 (talk) 19:07, 30 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
