Please explain revert

[edit]

Clusternote, can you please explain this revert? Since you did not leave an edit summary, I do not understand why you made the edit. I explained my reasoning in my edit summaries. Thanks. P.S. To see an example of the kind of mess that these italics make on a live page, see Category:Cafe Crepe Angels Heart, which has six syntax errors that are caused by the current formatting of this template. Hi. It is rollback. Your correction didn't keep original function, so rollback. Please test template before correction. Thank you! P.S. Anyway, I will try to fix the problem you pointed out. Thanks, again. --Clusternote (talk) 07:55, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In my view, the problems you pointed out seems 2 points:
[Issue 1] web linter error: it could resolve by deleting italic-markup, probably. — It seems caused on the boundary of nested templates (italic-markup without content "<i></i>"), so it might be resolved by inserting {{zwsp}} or &ZeroWidthSpace; at each boundary (ie. tail of paragraph) in template.
[Issue 2] "italics are not standard style for quotations ..." quoted from Revision 701889030 — It seems slightly hard to resolve immediately. Because this template have been used on over 2,000 files, and on these, nested non-italic markup (surrounded by '') are often used, so it can not resolved merely by the fix of this template.
To resolve the issue 2 steadily, I propose the following steps:
[Step 1] Separation of the existing issue: By the renamig of current version of template, the media files already using this template can be separated from current issue. . (for example, rename to {{Quote on newline with italic}}). <stroke>Note that after the renaming template, also the references on the caller media files are automatically updated to new name.</stroke>
[Step 2] Re-creation of improved template with the original name (ie. non-italic quotation version of {{Quote on newline}}): After then, new use of this template (with original name) are switched to non-italic version.

Correction: As the assumption on the step 1 of above proposal, I estimated that when changing the template name, it resulted that also the caller reference name is automatically changed. However it is false, not automatically changed. Thus, if we needed the non-italic version of this template, without changing over 2,000 files already using this template, we should create another new template, such as {{quote with newline (non-italic)}}. --Clusternote (talk) 12:50, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
