@Alno: Not exactly. What you did was changing the main page to use {{Autotranslate}}. This works as long as there’s no need to update the translated pages’ skeleton, but makes such updates impossible, as the change should be done on the main page, which at that point has nothing in common with the translated versions.

@Perhelion: Actually it could have with minor modifications, but it’s indeed not the usual way on Commons. MediaWiki.org, for example, doesn’t use /i18n subpages, the standard translation system is a hack using exactly what was broken on your user page, see e.g. the main #switch at mw:Template:Note. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:52, 20 August 2019 (UTC)
