Edit request 27 September 2021[edit]

{{Edit request}}

Please change "an Volunteer Response Team (VRT) member" to "a Volunteer Response Team (VRT) member". Very minor issue, but no one remembered to change "an" to "a" when they renamed OTRS to VRT. Saucy (talk) 03:59, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Switch to use interwiki links[edit]

{{Edit request}} Hi, it would be great if we change the piece that links in this template to [[OTRS:{{{2}}}|ticket #{{{2}}}]] instead of [{{{1}}} ticket #{{{2}}}]. That'll remove 1.7M links from externallinks table (phab:T343131). CC User:Lucas Werkmeister ASarabadani (WMF) (talk) 11:45, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done, but there’s still a link (see “ticket link” on e.g. File:Sushi1.jpg) which I think would have to be removed from Template:PermissionTicket/layout instead. But I’m not sure what exactly should be done there. What’s the point of linking to the ticket twice anyway? Would anyone mind if we changed the condition there to something like {{#if: {{{link|}}}{{#if: {{{2|}}}||x}}}}, i.e., only if |link= is given and |2= isn’t? (Leaving the edit request enabled for visibility and discussion. Also, I can’t quite figure out where the layout template is being called anyway, and what determines |link= and |2=.) --Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 12:02, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmph, apparently many of the translations don’t have a ticket link in the main text body like /en does, so the separate “ticket link” is important for them at least. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 12:13, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I was wrong, they all contain links. (I know because I just updated them all to use wikilinks if possible 🙂) But even given that, I think a separate link in a predictable location has some value, so maybe let’s not remove it after all – but change it to [[OTRS:{{{2}}}|#{{{2}}}]] if we know the number? (Using just the “#” should be reasonably translingual.) CC @Jarekt who’s done a lot of work on this template in the past. Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 16:16, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I think this kinda broke the “error” case in Module:PermissionTicket – it now shows [[OTRS:202201191001107|ticket #202201191001107]] rather than, I assume, 202201191001107. Not a huge deal because it’s not supposed to happen anyway, but perhaps worth fixing (pass a third arg into autotranslate() and use that in the l10n template, I guess). Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 12:05, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OTRS is an obsolete name and should be avoided, even in interwiki prefixes. Please use [[vrts:]] instead. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:37, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point. I thought it was a slightly different URL format (which would be bad, because then the in-body link and the “ticket link” below would be different, resulting in more externallinks), but I mixed that up with ticket: – otrs: and vrts: are indeed identical. I’ll fix them up later. (Most of the translations also say OTRS, I can fix those at the same time.) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 17:55, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All done, using my best guesses as to when “VRT” or “VRTS” was more appropriate. (Many translations were clearly referring to the “OTRS system”, where I substituted VRT to avoid RAS syndrome, for instance.) Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 19:35, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(Edit conflict) Please don’t update translations without knowing the language. While “OTRS” is a product name and the same in most if not all languages, “VRT(S)” is the acronym of “Volunteer Response Team (System)” and thus, depending on the translation of this phrase, a different acronym may be used (if one is used at all). Updating translations should be handled by people speaking those languages. Switching to the Translate extension could help translators find outdated translations, although the switch itself is quite time-consuming and barely automated. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 19:58, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Those edits broke the url. See User_talk:Jarekt#Module:PermissionTicket, the issue is that both [[otrs:....]] and [[vrts:....]] links use wrong url and [[ticket:....]] should have been used. Please test those urls before making big changes. --Jarekt (talk) 19:50, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have deactivated this edit request. There does not appear to be a clear change request here. Jonesey95 (talk) 14:34, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
