Features I'd like to implement[edit]

These are things that I'd like to implement:

  • Rename the template to {{PD-anon-1996}}, which currently redirects here, since there's no chance of confusion with other templates.
  • If the work was determined to be published more than 95 years ago, the template will then tell you to use {{PD-anon-expired}} instead.
  • If the work is determined to come from the United States, the template will mark itself as invalid.
  • Remove the <code></code> markup from filled-in parameters.
  • Add {{Cc-pd-mark-footer}} to the template.
  • Rename the categories to more user-friendly names.
  • Have |country= operate as it does in {{PD-1996}}; allow the use of either the English name or ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code and allow that to fetch the URAA date.
  • Possibly rename the |publication= parameter to something that clarifies that it's a date.

These may come at any point, and I'd like to work on them myself. This is just a to-do list. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 17:43, 4 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Striking out one bullet point as not seemingly a good idea according to research. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 00:56, 21 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Brainulator9: I've updated {{PD-anon-auto-1996}} to invoke {{PD-anon-expired}} if the work was published more than 95 years ago. This is not quite what you wanted — but I figured this might be a better approach since someone might put a PD-anon-auto-1996 copyright template on a file and then, if a few years later it qualifies for PD-anon-expired, it should probably switch without requiring a manual edit. Please feel free to change it to instead display a message asking for a manual update of the tag, if you wish. —RP88 (talk) 21:03, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, come to think of it, I like that a lot better. Of course, you'll still have to purge each page to clear up the categories and whatnot, but that's OK. -BRAINULATOR9 (TALK) 02:19, 26 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
