http://www.vv.se/templates/page3____2947.aspx says that the images can't be used commercially, but that refers to the press images. There's no special note that road signs are not copyrighted, but probably they are inegible of copyright anyway? /Grillo 17:19, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

- I got an answer from the road administration today. "Vägmärkena har ingen copyright och är fria att sprida. Den begränsningen som skulle kunna vara aktuell är att man får inte sätta upp något i trafikmiljön som kan förväxlas med ett vägmärke. (Vägmärkesförordningen 1978:1001, 85 §)" This roughly means that the images are not copyrighted, the only limit could be that they can't be put on the roads to confuse drivers with real road signs. "Vägmärkesförordningen 1978:1001, 85 §" is the applicable law. It just applies to the road signs though, not the other images on the website! /Grillo 22:51, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

- So it means that it's fine to take a photo of signs and use the photos but not to copy the road signs from Transportstyrelsen's web site, right? I'm asking because I found some signs which are missing on Commons. Commons has a Danish customs sign, but there are also Norwegian, Finnish and German signs. Would it be impossible to take those sample EPS files, convert them to SVG and upload them here? (Stefan4 (talk) 22:51, 18 October 2011 (UTC))
- According to the e-mail that Grillo got (see above), there should be no problem copying road signs from Transportstyrelsen's web site (but only road signs, not other images). - According to Grillo's first post (going to a no longer working link), the press images may not be used commercially, whereas other images may be used for any purpose. According to the e-mail, "the images" may be used for any purpose, but it's unclear if this refers to the press images or just to photos of any signs seen in public. The signs I mentioned are in a section called "press images", so I wasn't sure. On the other hand, if they are "PD-ineligible", there shouldn't be any problem anyway. Update 2012-05-16. "Transportstyrelsen", which publish the images states the following (http://transportstyrelsen.se/Om-webbplatsen/Bilder-lankning/) (/Oskar 12:58, 16 May 2012 (UTC)):
- Våra bilder får fritt användas i nyhetssammanhang, men de får inte användas i kommersiellt syfte utan vårt, och i vissa fall även fotografens, godkännande. Bilderna får inte förvanskas och vid publicering av en bild där vi tydligt har angivit en fotograf måste du ange fotografens namn.
- Meaning: This paragraph mentions "images" in relation to a photographer, stating that these can only be used for news purposes but not for commercial purposes without explicit permission. Given the following paragraph this should not apply to the published drawings of road signs, though I suppose it may apply to a photo of a real road sign.
- Du kan ladda ner bilder av vägmärken och använda fritt för olika ändamål utan Transportstyrelsens godkännande. Ett önskemål är att vägmärken endast används i sitt rätta sammanhang på webb eller i tryck då deras budskap är viktigt. Regler för vem som får sätta upp vägmärken som riktar sig till trafikanter finns i vägmärkesförordningen.
- Translation: You are allowed to download images of road signs and use them freely for any purpose without Transportstyrelsens explicit permission. We prefer that road signs are only used in their rightful context on the web or in print since their message is important. Rules regarding who can erect road signs targeting traffic are found in the "vägmärkesförordningen".
