Deleting original images[edit]

If I hear no objections, I am going to remove the advice suggesting nominating for the deletion the originals from which the transparent versions are derived. The attribution chain must be maintained. --Tony Wills (talk) 02:55, 19 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I've just removed the advice. -84user (talk) 11:57, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Update: I've improved the template internationalization (by creating Template:Opaque/layout and using it in all language subpages) and have removed such advice in all other language versions, where it was already present. --Ricordisamoa 19:33, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why make it so complicated?[edit]

If I'm going to have to replace every single use of the image on all projects (even if you don't speak the language), why not just change the image? The old image is still there. The attribution chain is preserved. And this tag is specifically not for JPEGs (and, by implication, not for GIFs, since both {{BadGIF}} and {{BadJPEG}} exist). So it's not like there's any technical necessity to rename the file.

And I've been fixing this problem in this way forever (albeit most of which were not tagged with this template) and I've never gotten a complaint. Unless there's some pressing need that the original stay as the active version, I see no reason not to just upload the replacement. --Trlkly (talk) 20:37, 25 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
