This seems like a bad idea to me. Why examine months in the context the European Union? Europe, maybe, but European Union? How do you deal with "March in county x" as a subcategory if the country has not always been in the European Union? I propose deleting this and its sub-categories. Themightyquill (talk) 20:53, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I might add that this tree has produced rather odd sub-categories like Category:December 1933 in the European Union (a good 60 years before the EU was founded). - Themightyquill (talk) 21:16, 2 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Since the EU is an economic entity, not a geographic one, any EU categories should not contain anything based solely on geography. Since all the content here seems to be broken down geographically by country, I don't think these are needed. We can likely find other European Union categories that should be either deleted or largely depopulated for similar reasons, such as Category:License plates of the European Union. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:25, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I guess the European Union might some say in the standardization of license plates in member states. The weather, seasons and months of the year are entirely beyond the reach of Brussels. =) - Themightyquill (talk) 10:05, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Let me play devil's advocate a bit more: The EU is an economic and political entity. So weather, season and months in the European Union are not much different from the weather, season and months in Germany (Category:Months in Germany) or in the United States (Category:Months in the United States). Rain and sunny days are beyond the reach of the Bundeskanzler and Donald too :) (these national ones are apparently named "Category:Months in" though).
(stopping devil's advocate). IMHO "Every-January-in-a-territory" (whether the European Union or the State of Arizona) does not serve a historic/chronologic purpose (as it would Category:Germany by month by year) neither a weather-ish/season-ish one (because it includes too many images in which the seasons are not explicit, as they would in the present Category:Autumn in the province of León). In favour of them it could be mentioned they are a very meta-and-intermediate-type-of-categories that don't hurt much, though. Strakhov (talk) 14:06, 3 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This one, however, does hurt. It ads an unnecessary and unbeneficial layer of categorization, as it would in all similar cases. Imagine if every country category had these supraterritorial organization categories as parents. Category:Flowers in the European Union? Category:Hotels in the African Union? Categoy:Bicycles in the Arab League? Category:Dance in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. There's no reason to keep it. - Themightyquill (talk) 15:07, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, and in fact I agree with it to a great degree. But the comparison is a bit of a slippery slope: The European Union, a cuasi-federation of countries with no border limitations, shared laws, elections, common institutions and so on it's, maybe, a more tangible thing, political-wise, than the Arab League, meaning no disrespect to these ones. And I haven't seen "Flowers in the Arab League" created, yet. A measure of how significative a union of countries is... could be, for example, how difficult the exit is. Ask the United Kingdom and... Syria. The part on gratuitously intersecting "territory & month" worries me more than "the extra-political-layer" concern. And that's bad, because there are many more categories doing the exact same thing. Strakhov (talk) 15:34, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Focusing on seasons rather than months is problematic in other ways, and results in things like Category:Spring in winter, and Category:Winter 2011 in New Zealand which will never fit well under Category:Winter 2011-2012 by continent. Months are precise and more-or-less universal. Seasons aren't consistent around the world, or even within a continent. I mean, we have the solstice and equinox to measure from, but spring can also be a description of climate/weather, in which it might not arrive until much later, say, in Northern Finland than in Southern Italy. March, at least, comes at the same time in both. - Themightyquill (talk) 14:41, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Delete These intermediary categories are extra layers for no purpose. If there was media that really depicted a month across the European Union located here, say a chart of economic data for the whole EU in March, then it might make sense, but from what I can see, this is just a collection of "by month by country" categories limited to countries that happen to be members of the EU. I guess to be more specific, I recommend removal of all of the 'by country' cats from this tree and if nothing is left, delete it. Josh (talk) 18:47, 13 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
