Hidden?[edit]

Not a big deal, but is there any reason to hide all these maintenance categories? They should never be added to files or content-related pages. Rocket000 (talk) 23:10, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's good practice to use that on any non-topical category even if that doesn't really hide it on categories ;) -- User:Docu at 23:26, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Rocket000 (talk) 23:43, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You mean, why it's good practice or why it doesn't really hide it? -- User:Docu at 23:47, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. Why is it good practice? Rocket000 (talk) 23:53, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This way any category that doesn't have the "hidden" attribute is a topical one. As the software doesn't hide it, you can still see it ;) -- User:Docu at 23:59, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I guess that's a good point. I was just thinking it might discourage newbies/unregistered users from getting into the maintenance side of Commons if they can't see it. Rocket000 (talk) 00:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a reason the layout on file description pages couldn't be the same for all users too? We'd just need to switch "hidden" to "Non-topical and maintenance categories:". -- User:Docu at 09:05, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
