Please remove the protection so I can make it look properly in RTL languages. ערן (talk) 07:43, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection isn't possible, cause it's a heavy used template. But I did the necessary changes to make the template rtl-compatible. Looks fine for me under rtl now. If there are further issues, I can fix them for you too. --Slomox (talk) 12:33, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

En dash[edit]

{{Editprotected}} Please, replace the common dash (-) between birth and death years with an en dash (–). --Apalsola tc 19:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC) -- edit: added {{Editprotected}} Apalsola tc 21:47, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done thank you.--Kwj2772 (msg) 14:29, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

En dash again[edit]

{{Editprotected}} The long dash used for date range (–) is used by English typography but not by other ones (like French or German typography at least, which use simple dash -). It should be possible to pass it as parameter so that it depends on language. Thanks. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 08:42, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can not see much of the difference between 2 types of dashes. I think we should use one useful in most languages and not complicate the template with language dependent dashes. Unfortunately I do not know what dash is appropriate in English or Polish languages in which I am fluent. --Jarekt (talk) 13:07, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there is a difference. The dash used in English is a medium dash – whereas the French/German dashes are short -. I believe, without being sure, that the short dash is used by the main continental European typographies.
Anyway, using the medium dash is incorrect in at least French/German, it is a typographic mistake. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 14:08, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
de:– says you are wrong. Im Deutschen wird der Halbgeviertstrich als Bis-Strich verwendet. --Slomox (talk) 19:35, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ach so... I've always believed that. Never mind—this is still true at least in French, and there must be a way to handle that. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 08:41, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done I added new parameter {{{Dash}}} to Template:Creator/layout, set to En dash (–) a for en, pl and de versions, normal dash (-) for fr. In case language specific template does not specify type of dash to use than the En dash is used. --Jarekt (talk) 12:40, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Works fine! Thanks a lot. Bibi Saint-Pol (sprechen) 12:42, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
